Michelle Kwan was arguably the best overall woman's skater in the world from 1996 to 2003, winning the gold medal in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2003 world championships and the silver in 1997, 1999 and 2002 world championships. Despite a flawless performance she was awarded the silver medal in the 1998 Winter Olympics. She got a bronze at the 2002 Winter Olympics.
