Episode Summary

In the series opener, the legal eagles are put to the test in the Candy Danzig vs. George Leach case involving a dog attack between neighbors and the Karen Allen vs. Bill Ryan case, a traffic dispute focusing on a woman who was pulled over by a supposed police officer who turned out to be a coroner with no police authority. Attorney Roy Black hosts the 12 real life lawyers as they try real cases, in front of real judges and juries, for the grand prize of $250,000.

Not exactly what one would consider an Emmy-winner, but it's still so-so. hide show

Having seen the show, I think it's a little difficult to understand. Most of the things I hear are lawyer mumbo-jumbo. The show definitely shares similarities with "The Apprentice," with the exception of the dismissals. Even people who win a case are in danger of elimination, and that makes things a bit more intense than "Apprentice" boardrooms.

Both eliminations were obvious choices. I didn't see anyone do anything more wrong or stupider than Kelly and Jason. They definitely have a way to go as lawyers.

All in all, the show isn't the best I've seen, but it's interesting to a point. I'll tune in for more.

Not the worst reality show out there, not the best. The opening cases were very "People's Court", but it has potential to do better. Not sure they picked the best candidates for the contestants however I imagine the choices were limited. hide show

I find it ironic that the "hater" of reality shows (David E. Kelley) got behind this. I turned it on as a skeptic, but actually found myself curious as to how both the cases and the "dismissal" would turn out. That is really the one thing that stands out in the show. You get the drama of the case and it's outcome and then the joy of watching someones spirit being crushed. I always enjoy watching a lawyer squirm and there seems to be plenty of that. At times it almost seems unbelievable that they convinced the clients, judges, and apparently in the future jury's to sign off on this. Lawyer client confidentiality is out the window, not to mention the fact that you would think there is a conflict of interest in the same firm representing both sides. I would be more excited if it were 2 separate firms with 2 separate winners, but I digress. If the cast gets over what is jitters for some and obvious attempt to play to the camera for others and just do the job the show will do well. On a final note, I think it was a horrible error to play the commercial for next week just before they revealed who was kicked off . Especially since the commercial started with showing the two who are about to get kicked off in a little box and saying "with two gone". Way to take all the surprise and suspense out of it. Why bother with all the buildup and suspenseful music when you just told us (very flatly) these two are about to go. Anyhow, I'll watch again, at least once more.

    8.9 Great

a rippoff of apprentice. But most things are lately and this one is one of the better ones. hide show

I like this show! I like the reality apprentice type shows. But I also have a great interest for court shows. Law and order is my all time favorite so this show fits me well.

I like the idea of really performing what they are good at, unlike "the cut" whose competitions and projects from what I can tell have nothing at all to do with desinging clothes, and whats even more is that what they do design, whether it an airplain or bilboard, are simply not creative.

Anyway back to the law firm. I loved the actual cases, I loved that there is more reality then most reality shows. I love the real cases, and being able to see the behind the scences, and then seeing the ending. I hate a whole show on a murder mystery where they never even catch the guy let alone put him on trials. What can I say the law fascinates me.... this show interests me. I don't think it will be a huge succesful blowout show, but it will be scheudled on my tivo every week.

    7.7 Good

The verdict is in. This show is guilty of borrowing the "Apprentice" winning format. Will it be entertaining? The jury is still out. hide show

David E. Kelley has had some fine entries into annals of television history.(The Practice and Ally McBeal) He has also had some big misfires. (Anybody remember Snoops?) This show lands somewhere in between those two extremes. Roy Black makes the most of his 5 minutes on the show. His comments prove that he is the smartest guy in the room. However, The two cases that were presented were severely lacking. A three legged dog and a highway vigilante? Is this "The Law Firm" or the "People's Court?"

The show doesn't need the catchphrase, "The verdict is in." If the verdict was in on this show, we would have to find in favor of better television. As it is now, the jury is still deliberating and waiting for evidence of a better show. It has great potential. Now convince us with a closing argument.
