Ryan asks Michael to speak in front of his business class so that he can get extra credit. Michael believes he is giving an informative speech from the point of view of a successful manager. Ryan, however, gives an introduction that suggests Dunder-Mifflin is a doomed company.
Back at the office, Pam announces that she has entered her art into a local show. Dwight discovers animal pellets on the floor, and begins to investigate. Eventually a bat is discovered in the ceiling, escaping into the office to startle the rest of the employees. Jim jumps at the chance to pull a prank on Dwight, and begins to act as if he is turning into a vampire. Dwight's reaction is to recruit Creed as a fellow vampire hunter.
Michael's speech, which begins awkwardly as he rips pages out of a textbook, begins to head south as Ryan's forbidden>Pam's disappointment at the show becomes unbearable after she over-hears some negative comments from Oscar's roommate. She begins to take down her paintings, but is stopped by Michael who arrives late and is awed by Pam's talent. After he asks to buy the portrait of the office Pam gives Michael an emotional hug. Michael hangs the portrait in the office as "an inspiration, a source of beauty." The episode ends with a shot of Kelly unable to contain herself as Ryan unpacks his things onto the desk next to hers.
