As Hart's second year at law school comes to an end, Golden is given an opportunity to interview for an opening as a clerk in the Supreme Court. But he is having trouble coming up with a recommendation to give to Kingsfield for his replacement as president of Law Review.
Rita and Hart are both vying for the position of president as Ford tries to come to grips with the idea of his younger brother following in his footsteps and going to the same law school as he.
The former head of the SEC wants to spend more time with her family, especially her grandchildren, but Kingsfield sets out to persuade her to forgot about that goal and come to work with him as a professor at the university.
Meanwhile, Golden is having second thoughts about clerking for the Supreme Court and if that's really what he wants to do with his career.
