The last time they had Mona on the show, Homer assumed she died in that prison bus accident, but she did survive. How are they going to clear up her "death" from the last ep?

They showed how she survived at the end of the episode.

With a script, some voice actors and an animation staff.

Yeah, but Homer didn't know she survived. He was looking through the newspapers at the end of the ep for a message from her, but couldn't find it.

True, but he did find something that said "I'm Ok" which he assumed was from her, so he did believe that she survived. at least that was my take on it.

What i'm wondering is in this upcoming episode, is Mona actually going to die this time? Or will it be another fake death?

Seeing how the current writers can't/won't hadle any 'emotional' scenes with any respect to the audience, I half expect them to make Homer inhale the ashes and then break out into some sort of sneezing fit.

IMO, My Mother the Carjacker should've never been made and Mother Simpsons should've been the only episode involving Mona.

I think they should have really brought her into the series as a regular.

She was a good character.

I seriously have my fingers crossed in hopes that this is a straight out serious/emotional episode.
please oh please let it be serious

Yeah, My Mother the Carjacker wasn't that good. But they obviously wanted Glenn Close back that season for a sweeps stunt (it aired in November).

But I don't see what the big fuss is, really. I've been a Simpsons fan since day one, but Mother Simpson was not an intregral part of the series. Marge's mother, who's basically a background character, has had more screen time. Mother Simpson's reappearance this season just seems like another attempt to go back to well because the writer's are getting dry and repeating stories. Like revisiting Lurleen Lumpkin (although I did like that new episode).

I just realized...

The episode where Homer's mother dies, airs on Mothers Day.

Thats...really sad. I mean, I can sort of understand why the writer's chose that day, but still. Its sad.

This episode better be a **** tearjearker to make up for needlessly killing off a 3 time character.

I agree,

I want to be in tears by the end of the episode.

I think it'll be good. I just hope they don't cover it up with comedy.

I don't think the writers chose that day. They wrote the script well in advance. The airing was chosen by FOX.

Absolutely not!! Why should we mourn a peripheral character. This is a comedy, not a soap opera.

When they killed Maude Flanders, a regular supporting character, they mined it for laughs, i.e., Homer admitting he parked in an ambulance zone preventing any rescutation. LOL.

The saddest scene from the show happens to be from my favorite episode: Lisa's Substitute. The scene at the train station wasn't trying to be "funny", but it was one of the best moments in the show's history. That's why I doubt the show can pull this off in any 'win-win' scenario--The show nowadays rarely does anything LOL-funny, nor does it do anything with any genuine empathy.

It's almost like the writer feel like that if every line isn't an attempted joke, the viewers might forget they're watching a comedy.

i think mona has been overused... she was meant to be a one time character. but this is a comedy, and as such athough emotion is fine and dandy, i don't think it should be overy emotional... if the episode lacks a good plot. yes there have been some brilliant emotional tearjering scenes in the smpsons like lisas substitute or when bart passed third grade or whatever... but there have also been countless huorous or non emotiona scenes that one recalls equaly if not ore fondly. i don't give a darn whether its emotional or not. i just want it to be a good ep all new eps should be. i said should be, not are.
