When the Simpsons eventually ends its long run (not in the near Futurama but hopefully sometime in the 2010s) what do you think the final episode ever will be about. They could parody series finales for other long running shows but that might not be good.

It should be a future episode that skips to different places in time to show how Sideshow Bob killed all the Simpsons in their lifetime.

They should treat it like any other episode but give the show some closure (maybe Mona and Herb coming back or Lisa becoming the youngest college student ever

I think they should make a normal episode, but at the end, they do a scene where the parents are tucking the kids into bed the same way that they did on the very first Tracy Ullman short. Bart no longer wonders what the mind is, Lisa isn't afraid of bed bugs anymore, and Maggie no longer fears the "Rock a bye Baby" song. In the end the kids want to come into the bed anyway, along with the dog and cat. Eventually they all start talking about something and the camera just zooms out and leaves them giving the audience the message: Things are still the way they are, and that's how we want it.

I hope they resolve some frequently asked questions like where they live and what ever happened to Marge's dad.

I don't even want to think about the simpsons ending!

But I think they should show like how the characters are in like the future.

The special 'final' episode will be whatever episode the show is currently producing when one of the major voice actors quits, or passes away.

It is very hard for me to imagine a series finale episode because, despite the downfall, I can't imagine this show ever ending! It's still hard for me to believe that this very same show aired a couple of months before I was born. The show is older than I am!

This show aired 4 months and 9 days after I was born so I grew up with it.

Still when it does eventually end I can't imagine the amount of viewers it will have for the final episode.

I actually really like that idea. Like Principal Skinner could mock Boy Meets World's finale where instead of saying "I love you all, Class dismissed" Skinner could say "Bart, school is finally dismissed, I feel like I've waited (enter number of years The Simpsons has been on at this point) for this day, the day you've finally moved onto Junior High!!!
I know that's a poor example, but I think the idea would be great if they did it correctly. Unlike me

I know what you mean. A parody would probably work only if it is done correctly and not too heavily.

It makes me sad to think about a final episode, but all that I can say is that I hope they do something clever and don't just put together a clip show. Let's hope that we don't have to think about a finale for at least another five years anyway.

It makes me sad too, but the show isn't going anywhere for a while, so I have a long time to prepare before I am ready for The Simpsons to go.

yeah, im 14, the simpsons is 18, thats 4 years before i was born! when i was born, the show already had 4 seasons out! it'll feel weird when it finally bites it someday, to have something thats been around longer than you just stop is probably gonna feel weird. but like most of you have said, though its getting on in years, The Simpsons probably has a good amount of life left in it. Matt Groening doesn't want to kill the show anymore than anyone else, and he said he'll keep going as long as he can. Plus, with the movie coming out, i think itll earn the show an entire new fanbase. Who knows? Maybe The Simpsons has got another 10 years left in it? Or maybe just 1 more? Maybe 20? Who knows, all I know is its not finished yet. Plus, when it finally does get cancelled, do you think FOX will be able to handle the undeniably huge attack from fans its going to get? All those people will be trying to ressurect it, just like Futurama, and thats nowhere near as popular as The Simpsons.

Once The Simpsons ends, people will not try to resurrect it because it has more than enough seasons to make people happy. Futurama only had 5 seasons and 72 episodes and should not have been cancelled in the first place. And FOX doesn't know what they are going to do when The Simpsons ends because they hope it will be a long time from now, so they aren't prepared.

Family Guy & Futurama were cancelled but I am guessing The Simpsons won't get cancelled it will end. If a show ends (not cancelled) there is little chance of it being revived. Back on topic, I would love it if they had a few clips of past episode and end the episode with the screen going blank and hearing Homer say "Doh"
