Blackboard Joke: None.
Couch Gag: Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote paints a fake couch on the wall of the living room and four of the family members run in and crash into the wall, getting flattened in the process. Afterward, Maggie comes in and acts as the Road Runner; she removes her pacifier, sticks out her tongue and emits the iconic "Beep, beep!" before zooming away. Once they're off the wall, the other Simpsons manage to sit on the painted couch, except Homer, who crashes through the wall and yells "D'oh!" (edit)

Homer: Stop saying things, Bart. That's the TV's job.

(Bart sees Lisa taking second-hand smoke and calls home.)
Homer: Yello. She what?! Oh, my God! Well, I'm going to settle this once and for all! Meet me at that place we discussed. (Hangs up)
Marge: Who was that?
Homer: Wrong number. (edit) Homer: I can't believe you were smoking. Do you know the "sturgeon" general said you're not supposed to?
Lisa: A "sturgeon" is a fish.
Homer: And a very wise fish he is! (edit) Chazz Busby: I haven't seen crap like this since my Broadway show Crap Like This. Ran for five years. (edit) Marge: Homie, I'm gonna be a dancer!
Homer: Go-go or boring?
Marge: Boring!
(Homer moans) (edit)

A sign on the window of the Ballet Academy reads, "No Fat Chicks," while a sign on the window of the Opera Academy next door reads, "No Thin Chicks."

Music From This Episode
"The End" by The doors (Heard when Bart is spying on Lisa during the Apocalypse Now parody.) (edit) Homer and Bart's beef jerky Power Point presentation to Apu:
Just the product you need
Excellent value
Retailer's dream
Kiss your cash flow problems goodbye
Your business will prosper (edit)

All That Jazz
Chazz Busby's exit at the end of the episode, as well as his wardrobe and accompanying music, "On Broadway", is an homage to musical All That Jazz. (edit) The Three Amigos
Bart's Mexican wrestler nickname "El Guapo", means The Handsome One. It's the nickname of Bas Rutton, a Mixed Martial Arts Champion. In addition, El Guapo was also the name of the villain in The Three Amigos. (edit) Hello Kitty
The "Children's Nicotine Patches" that Lisa wear bare an uncanny similarity to the Hello Kitty trademark. (edit) Bob Fosse
The character of Chazz Busby is a reference to famed choreographer/director Bob Fosse, who inspired a new dance style with his signature black clothes and bowler hat. (edit) Harry Potter
The Angelica Button book series and Springfield's obsession with it parodies the Harry Potter series and its huge popularity with readers worldwide. (edit)

Smoke on the DaughterFair "Well written" I was worried about this episode after reading the preview for it but it was a pleasant surprised. It's not as good as the classic episodes but it is one of the better post-classic episodes. Season 19 could go down as the best season since Season 10. Continue » Posted Apr 1, 2008 12:38 pm PST |
