It is indeed a Suite Life for everyone who lived on Tipton Hotel... most of the time, of course. hide show
Although it is not perfect, this series is a really blast when it comes to making fun of everything and everyone... In fact, the core of the show was the gags and crazy situations in which the characters got themselves into. The series story was all about the misadventures of Zack and Cody, two twins who lived in a hotel, and were always getting themselves in trouble. I always loved the way those two got Maddie and London, not to mention Moseby and their mother into trouble, by making them do things which they did not want to. Also loved the fact of Cody having a crush on Maddie (and the way she used that for her own benefit, sometimes).
The cast is very good, and praise the work of the Sprouse twins who make us laugh even without trying most of the times, with their jokes. I also praise the work of Ashley Tisdale and Brenda Song by portrying Maddie and London so well (those two are without a doubt one of the funniest and cutest duo that I ever seen in a series such as this one... When London got herself into trouble, Maddie would have to do everything to help her, and then when Maddie needed something, London would just ignore her [though sometimes she would help her, because Maddie is her best friend]). It is not perfect in every aspect, but it's one of the funniest shows that Disney Channel came up with in these last years. Plus, the main theme is hillarious. I advise anyone who loves a good laugh to watch this series, because you won't be disappointed. I give it a 9.5, because it does not deserve a 10, all because of some things they came up with for season 2 spoiled the fun.
The first season of the show was the best. It had the most clever episodes, it had some great, funny humor. It was a show all could like and watch. Grade- A.
The second season started off around the same quality as the first, but near the middle the show dipped. Jokes were no longer as creative and stories weren't as good. Still watchable. Grade- C+/B-
The third is when all went wrong. London especially. Yeah, she's dumb, but in this season she went from her lovable dumb-self to... I don't know, like a characiture. And a lot of the episodes were mediocre, as was the finale. Grade- D+/C-
So, the longer the show went, the worse it became IMO.
The score would be lower if it weren't for the first season. hide show
Oh my God, where do I begin with this show? It went so downhill towards the middle of season 2. The 1st season? Yeah, that was classic and hilarious, but it changed in the middle of the second one. So what had changed in the show? Well for one thing, the comedy. In the first season every episode had original jokes and very funny humor. There'd be sometimes where I'd be laughing my head off cause the joke was so funny. But then in the second season, the jokes became so unoriginal and they also were expected. There were a few times in the second season and third season that I laughed but all of the jokes I'd heard before from other other shows or it was predictable. Moving onto another thing; the laugh track. First season it was not bad at all because the laugh track laughed at the right time and it wasn't overused. Second season it was. They laughed every three seconds and it'd annoy the crap outta me. Moving on, I began to see a real change in the characters second season. In the first one, Zack may have been lazy at school, but he was at least somewhat smart. But then he just became really dumb. Cody became a total geek, and although he was kinda geeky in the first season, at least he was mild and wasn't too overly nice. Another thing I want to talk about is London. What the heck happened to all that intellegence she had in season 1? Where did it all go? She became such an idiot that it was not even funny but rather annoying. And also she'd begun to act like a real jerk to people. And Maddy. No, she didn't really change but the way people used to treat her did. Originally, people had treated her fairly, but then she began to get treated unfairly. I was disgusted with what happened when London began to attend Maddy's school; Maddy got in trouble after London copied her book just because Maddy's story was crappy, (in fact, London almost got praise for copying Maddy's story while Maddy, on the other hand was blamed for it) Maddy got detention after the 1st day London attended school while London was let free of it, Maddy was constantly blamed for what London had done at school, and so on. The acting also got worse as the series continued. 1st season included some good acting, while the other two...eh, not so much. But Brenda Song always did a good job at her roles. Suite Life of Zack and Cody was a good show at first, but it went so downhill. Grade: 85/100.
Zack and Cody Martin cause havoc in the Tipton Hotel while the manager, Mr.Mosbey tried to stop them from ruining it. The show centers upon Zack and Cody Martin, twin brothers who live in the Tipton Hotel where their mother, Carey, sings and performs in the hotel lounge. Also residing at the hotel is the hotel owner's daughter, London Tipton, who is impolite and ditzy. Maddie, whose real name is Madeline Fitzpatrick, is the hotel's down-to-earth candy-counter girl. Mr. Moseby, the strict, dutiful, and serious manager is often a foil to Zack and Cody's schemes. The show is often set at the Tipton Hotel, but various other settings like Zack and Cody's school, Cheevers High School, and Maddie and London's private school, Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow Catholic School are used.
Not my cup of tea, but I can see why people like it. hide show
Disney's really been slacking off lately, what with that God-awful Wizards of Waverly Place and the deplorable Hannah Montanna. The Disney Channel is now filled with trash, and the cancellation of this show was not the first nail in the coffin. Granted, it's not The Honeymooners, but it was the last remotely humorous program on the channel. Now, let's get to the review.
Actors' performances: 6/10
Cole and Dylan Sprousse are, well, let's face it, crummy actors. Their performances aren't very believable; the way they say their lines is incredibly exaggerated. Besides those two, the actors are generally talented. Not particularly realistic, but fitting for their roles. Specifically the man who portrayed Mr. Mosby, as he's made supporting character performances in several other sitcoms. Plot: 6.5/10
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody's plot isn't very exotic. Living in a hotel is somewhat new, but it's nothing that hasn't been tried before (if you've ever seen the Golden Palace, that's the ace example). The boys' mother is a moderately successful singer, while their father is a rock star. Predictably, he left their mother and is generally considered a horrible human being, as fathers often are in sitcoms (Fresh Prince of Bel Air, anyone?). Anyhow, she was relocated to a hotel, and...for some reason, they live there. If she could afford a luxurious suite, how is it that she can't afford a small home? I'll never understand. Overall humor: 7.5/10
This is where the show really shines. Despite the irritating laugh track which seems to be thrown in every 4.5 seconds, the humor is, well, humorous, and is reminiscent of shows like Family Matters. There are several mature subject matters present, like dyslexia and pregnancy, so the gags have a chance to be more realistic. It's not a show I'd personally recommend, but it's certainly enjoyable.
