From the Hollywood Reporter April 22, 2008

Showtime has given "The Tudors" a 3rd-season pickup. Season 3 premieres in 2009.

Production will begin June 16 in Dublin, Ireland, with series star Jonathan Rhys Meyers set to return as King Henry VIII. The number of episodes has yet to be determined for Season 3, which will follow the king as he weds third queen Jane Seymour (Anita Briem) & then Anne of Cleves (still to be cast).

" 'The Tudors' is now a fixture for us at Showtime, and we're on our way to completing the entire saga of all six wives of Henry VIII," Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt said.

"The Tudors" is averaging 912,000 total viewers per 1st-run episode, on par with its freshman run (964,000), according to Live + 7 data from Nielsen Media Research.

Yes, she is a Tudor, but in order to cover her reign the series would have to continue till after Henry's death. I don't think it's likely they will do a series without a 'big' name such as Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

But it doesnt make sense that we only get to see Henry's reign only. This show is called "The Tudors" not "The Tudor". They SHOULD continue. They should cover the Tudor Dynasty. They show has a large fan base now and I dont think it would suffer much with out a big name as long as the script and the acting is good.

I agree. Ten episode per season is a joke! It is not even half a season in other shows. Even with the strike, alot of shows reached15 to 18 episodes. And even though the Tudors didnt suffer from the strike in the sense that it was in the meddle of the season, it didnt have as many as the others.

But they already do that, after Jane Seymour, it won't be long before Edward's introduced and then Jane Grey. Both Mary and Elizabeth are already in the show and that's the entire Tudor dynasty.

Are they planning to cover Edward, Mary and Elizabeth before the show is done? and I mean their time at the throne and not just their existence.

How can they introduce Jane Grey? She was the granddaughter of Henry VIII's younger sister Mary Tudor + Charles Brandon. In this series, Henry's sisters Mary & Margaret were incorporated into one sister Margaret & she didn't have a daughter (Frances, mother of Jane Grey) with Brandon in this series. By re-writing history, this series has written out the existence of Lady Jane Grey, as well as Mary Queen of Scots, the descendant of Margaret, Henry's older sister, who married James IV of Scotland. Without Mary Queen of Scots, her son James VI of Scotland, I of England (who took the throne after Elizabeth) wouldn't have existed either.

I wish they'd have left history intact since Lady Jane Grey would have been an interesting story to see played out against Princess Mary's ascension to the throne. protestant versus catholic factions

It is true that since they played with history alot, actual events and ppl cant be known in this series but I was hoping they would find thier way around it as they have in a lot of things.

I read an interview fairly recently that said they were thinking of carrying on the tudors to follow Mary's reign, so we might be lucky and get to see it some day

I've heard that Anita Briem (Jane Seymour) won't be returning for season three and a new Jane Seymour has been cast.

    Is this true?

    That really sucks!

    Anita is hot!

Plus it's annoying when roles are recasted since the newcomer is rarely as good as the original.

Joss Stone is set to appear in The Tudors as the fourth wife of Henry VIII, the BBC confirmed. Stone will deliberately look unattractive for the role, which was announced in the US.
