Prefer this to Twilight although I like that also. Remember TVD were wrote before The Twilght saga. hide show
You've got to look at the vampire diaries objectively, yes there are similarities to twilight, High school and Vampires, but that's about it. the story is better the characters are more interesting, Damon for instance is just the coolest vampire on the screen at the moment, with the exception of course of Eric Northman on True Blood and Elena is a better and more strong willed character than Bella although in the Vampire Diaries novels she is a bit of a whiney annoying typical high school cheerleader so props to the shows directors for changing that detail of the story. Remember this Twihards, The Vampire Diaries were wrote a long time before Twilight was ever in Stephanie Meyers mind, So if anything is a carbon copy of anything, It would be The Twilight saga is a rip off of The Vampire Diaries. Don't get me wrong I like Twilight but absolutely hate people who go around saying that TVD has ripped off the saga because that is a blatant un-researched lie. Get your facts straight before you comment people please. My apoligies for my poor grammer and spelling I'm in a hurry.
3rd or 4th vampire show since they trying to milk the whole twilight thing. Nothing special just vampire version of one three hill hide show
I don't have anything against the shows that try to milk the whole new oooh lets make vampire shows. Honestly I do like some novels related to this myth. But only reason these shows are made not because all these writers just suddenly all came up with the whole vampire trend by themselves because they been directed that way.
I like True Blood better even tho that's also pretty far from reality but the quality of the show is a lot different then these all new vampire shows.
I don't know what could be the next trend.. Zombies? wait that's done already.. Werewolves? Only time will tell

I don't get the whole Vampire-Human Relationship. The whole vampire thing is a MYTH and NOT real. I hated Twilight and thought Stephenie Meyer is an awful author and it doesn't change the fact that this show is any better. I don't get why do people waste their time watching some mythical creature exploring the mortal world, oh wait, I know why, they're all a bunch of fan girls probably crushing over the vampire. Pathetic. There are tons of shows that is just as good and is actually not far from reality and is just as entertaining and actually MAKES SENSE rather than this show.

Being a massive Buffy/Angel fan (and Twilight), it's safe to say that most shows with some kind of vampire storyline catches my attention but they don't all keep my attention.
The Vampire Diaries not only caught my eye but gave me Buffy flashbacks which immediately got me hooked and there was no turning back. Love the chemistry between Elena and Stefan and Damon is absolutely necessary. Throw in a witch and werewolf (the subtle shot of the moon and Tyler) and you've got a great tween show that leaves us wanting more.
Here's hoping it sustains in this TV world, one season will not do.
If you loved the Buffy and Angel series then this show is for you . whilst still lacking the character development of the Buffy series , it is a work in progress . I know this show is a bit more fluff than Buffy was but it could indeed be that long awaited fix that we have been waiting for . with one brother representing what could be Angel and another Spike , throw in a witch like Willow and really the only thing missing is the heroine(Buffy) and the watcher type (Giles). I mean you even have the vampires trapped underground that Damon is trying to release .Yes indeed this show has a ton of potential
