  • Michel Rapaport plays Dave, and Michel Rapaport also guest starred on an episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air called "Where There's a Will, There's a Way" as an extra at Will and Carlton's apartment party. edit »
  • Taye's character is based on Lil' Fizz's teenage years. edit »
  • Dave is the only character to have a Long Island dialect. edit »

  • This goof relates to the scene at the beginning when Dave and Vicky are lent on the silver car smoking. Notice that just after Dave switches the cigarette from his right hand to his left, the camera angle changes to show us that it is now back in his right hand without another switch. edit »
  • This episode was nominated for a Excellence in Production Design Award for Television - Multi-Camera Television Series. edit »
  • Calling (516) 507-2370 greets you with a message along the lines of "Hey, this is Dave. If you want to sleep with my son Larry, leave a message. Oh, and don't forget to watch The War at Home, Sundays at 8:30 on FOX." You are then allowed to leave a message or your phone number after the tone like a normal answering machine. edit »
  • Based on the college countdown board Dave has for all the kids we can figure out a lot of things. Hillary is a Junior, Larry a Sophomore, and Mike is in 8th grade. It also suggests that this episode takes place sometime in September, possibly meant to occur around the actual original air date. This agrees with the statements that Hillary is 16 and Mike is 13. It is likely that Larry is 15, although his age is never actually stated. The phone number that he gives, (516) 507-2370, has a Nassau County, NY (Long Island) area code, and in New York, you must be 16 to get your learner's permit, and 17 to have an actual driver's license. It's obvious that driving his mom's car to "the girls' house" was illegal, but how he even managed to do it with no experience behind the wheel (legally, anyway) is a mystery. edit »
  • This episode was dedicated "In Loving Memory of Ellen Idelson." edit »
  • There was a viewer discretion advisory before the beginning of this episode. edit »
  • Dave: I'm in charge, she's in charge. No one's in charge! It's all a big mess. Who do I blame? Mary Tyler Moore. edit »
  • Larry We're going to Kenny's house to watch TV.
    Vicky: Okay, honey!
    (Larry & Kenny leave)
Dave: See? Wh-What is that about? Since when do boys watch TV together?
Vicky: They got to do something before they make out. edit »
  • Larry: I don't know why my father thinks I'm gay, I'm not... really. In fact, if you know any female that would be willing to have sex with me, please have them call! The lines are open. edit »
  • Dave: I only have one simple rule for dating my teenage daughter: if she sees your penis, I'll cut it off! edit »
  • Vicky: (to Hillary about Hillary's date with a senior) Is that true?
Hillary: No. He's a freshman... in college.
    Vicky: Hillary!
Hillary: Are you gonna make a big deal out of this?
    (Cut scene)
Dave: Okay... okay, be firm, but understanding. It's all the way you say it.
    (Reality)
Dave: No ****ing way are you going! edit »
  • 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Daughter
Dave: I only have ONE simple rule for dating my daughter. If she sees your penis I'll cut it off. The "one simple rule" phrase is most likely a reference to John Ritter's last TV series, 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Daughter, in which he played a dad of teenage daughters. edit »
