Air Force One is forced to keep aloft for almost 24 hours when an indicator light leads the flight crew to believe that the landing gear isn't functioning properly; Bartlet and Will have a spirited discussion on Colombian recertification, which is ultimately rendered moot when Air Force One doesn't land on time; the Black Caucus plays hardball with the Oval Office to gain a Congressional debate on the merits of reinstating the draft; legislation to clean up Chesapeake Bay is sacrificed to partisan politics; Will is unsuccessful in hiding his fear of flying from C.J. and Charlie; deaths in Kuhndu continue to mount. - Chris: That was a stringer we use on the Ivory Coast. He's got double confirmation that there were friendly fire deaths in Kuhndu a few hours ago.
Kuhndu is not a real country. edit »
- Josh is met in a WW passageway by Democrat Party leaders who saw him in talks with a Republican representative from Maryland, and they mention the Bartlet re-election is a "lonely landslide."
This meant that, while carrying a majority for himself, Bartlet did not enable fellow Democrats to get re-elected as well.
Similarly-termed elections: California's Democratic Governor Jerry Brown [1978], Reagan over Mondale [1984]. edit » - Toby, in speaking with Congressman Mark Richardson, gets a lesson here on why the draft is important to the Congressman - and to everyone interested in maintaining military strength. edit »
- During the final scene, the Air Force One pilot announces that they will eventually land on Runway "Three Niner", or 39, at Andrews Air Force Base. This is incorrect for two reasons: first, Andrews AFB has parallel runways 1 and 19, L and R; and second, since runways are designated based on their compass position at 10 degree intervals, no runway can be greater than 36, which makes Three-Nine non-existent at any airfield. edit »
- The "Angel" in the title is Airlift Operations' code name for Air Force One. edit »
- Leo: By the way, not for nothing, but draftees aren't nearly as well trained. It's why there were so many casualties in Vietnam.
Toby: Right. Also, the Vietcong.
Leo: Plus that. edit » - Josh: They're having a problem with their landing gear.
Donna: I know, I wrote the note.
Josh: No, you wrote "They're having a problem with their landing geak".
later Donna: That's an R.
Josh: It's a K. edit » - Donna: You know what gripes my ass? edit »
