    6.9 Fair

Reeves is seduced by a sexy sportscaster who wonders why an ex-NBA player is coaching at a ghetto high school. hide show

A decent episode. Reeves gets tempted to drop the riff-raff known as Carver by Sally Adams, a beautiful sports reporter. He wakes up when Gomez is arrested and gets put in jail. Reeves was Gomez' one phone call and the coach blew him off because of Adams. The team angrily reminds the coach that, when he accepted the job, he accepted not only the basketball, but all the other players' baggage, too. Reeves turns down all offers, gets Go-Go out of the can, tells the team he's not going anywhere, and learns he has all he wants with his coaching.

  • In this episode, Reeves gets thrown out of the game for arguing with the ref. However, there's no assistant coach to replace him. In fact, he never had an assistant coach ever in the series. []
  • The team sings "Duke of Earl" by Gene Chandler in this episode. []
  • This was the first episode to feature the team's "shower singing." All the actors' real voices were used whenever they sang, and the cast agreed that Nathan Cook (Reese) had the best singing voice of them all. []
  • In this episode, we learn that Coach Reeves was drafted as the 16th pick in the first round of the NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls, and that he spent 10 seasons in the starting lineup. []
  • Carver cheerleaders: The grass is greener, it's just a misdemeanor, a temporary layoff, you know we got a payoff, Carver, Carver, fight, fight, FIGHT! []
  • Sally Adams: What is it most of us want from life? For some, it's glory. For others, it's power, money, and recognition. But, what is it that makes Ken Reeves forsake the opportunities for money and glory open to most professional athletes? To coach basketball in an almost forgotten high school in a Los Angeles ghetto? I don't know if we found the answer, but, what I do know is that there are 12 young high school athletes who are glad he does. From all of us...good luck, Kenny Reeves. This is Sally Adams. Goodnight. []
  • Reeves: (in the locker room, after Gomez misses a shot at the buzzer and Carver loses a game) You better keep your nose clean, Gomez. After the way you played tonight, you get thrown in the can again, I'll leave you there! []
