Doggett catches someone in the X-files office trying to steal documents pertaining to Mulder's sister. The intruder is a severely scarred man who blames his disfigurement on Government conspirators. He claims the source of that information - and, in fact, the one who helped him gain entry - is Mulder. Although he refuses to divulge the missing agent's whereabouts, the mystery man has enough knowledge of the X-files and its history to lead Doggett to suspect that he just might be Mulder himself. Scully's fears for the safety of her son are elevated when he is injected with an unknown substance. With the mystery surrounding William becoming even more darker, Scully must allow herself to send him away for his own safety. Add a recap »

- How is it that Mulder and Spender can have the same DNA if they are only half brothers. My understanding is that only twins will have the same DNA.
In any event, Spender was a FBI agent as much as Mulder was. If they have the same DNA, the system should have logged 2 hits instead of just 1 hit on Mulder. edit » - Regardless of who "Danny Miller" is supposed to be, how did he get access to the FBI building? He claims to use Mulder's FBI ID card, but Mulder has been fired for over a year. The FBI doesn't let fired employees keep valid ID cards that give them access to secure areas.
Comment: Danny Miller never says that Mulder gave him his FBI ID card. He simply says that Mulder gave him an ID card. edit »
- The time stamp on the first scene in the X-Files office, with Doggett doing push-ups, is 11:21 pm. Chris Carter's wife's birthday is the 21st November. edit »
- Although David Duchovny is uncredited in this episode, he is seen for a split second, by Scully when she is examining the disfigured man, soon to be named Jeffery Spender (Mulder's half-brother), when she looks in his eyes. edit »
- Subtle hint that the Cigarette Smoking Man is still alive? Spender claims that he is seeking revenge on his father by depriving "them" of super-William: not something you typically do if the target of your revenge is...well, dead. edit »
- Near the beginning, as Scully is in her car with William, she is singing "Joy to the World" to William, the same song she sang to Mulder while they were stuck in the forest in the Season 5 episode, 'Detour'. edit »
- Spender: It'll never be over. They'll always know what he was. They'll never accept what he is.
Scully: Well, I can protect him.
Spender: And if you can't? Look at me, what they did. Is this what you want for your son? edit » - Doggett: (To Spender) I don't care who the hell you are!! If anything happens to that baby, I will personally take you out. edit »
