Tom and Jerry was originally the very first, and earliest of the Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. It went through many phases and took place from anywhere from inside a house, to anywhere in outer space. Tom and Jerry was originally the very first, and earliest of the Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. It went through many phases and took place from anywhere from inside a house, to anywhere in outer space. The show was of course, about a cat and a mouse, and several other characters. The two never really talked, even though they do sing, yell, gasp, laugh, count, or say "Aha!!"; and that several other characters spoke more often. They would later end up in several TV series, and also in a few movies, however many would say that they didn't like the way the movies turned out. All of the episodes were distributed by MGM. Here's more info about the show in general:

Pilot Episodes:

The Pilot Episode was called "Puss Gets The Boot" and was also the first one with Mammy in it. Tom looked very different and was called Jasper. It was produced by Harman-Ising Productions.

Fred Quimby:

Fred Quimby was the Producer of Tom & Jerry for many years. He is also the Producer of Tex Avery's Cartoons. Tom's fur would eventually become blue.

CinemaScope:

These cartoons had more people in them. There were narrators, and many conversations between the adults. Lewis Marshall became an Animation Director, and Hanna-Barbera were the Producers.

Rembrandt:

Only seeing the older Tom & Jerry cartoons, and not having enough information on the show, Ted Pierce, Gene Deich, and William L. Snyder and the rest of the crew had trouble in producing their episodes of Tom & Jerry.

Sib Tower 12 Incorporated:

One of the last producers of Tom & Jerry, this version has the famous opening with the yellow background and the red letters (except for the 5 letters O and J) where Tom hisses and Jerry waves. The producer was Chuck Jones, and the cartoons look ahead of their time. There were several new characters, including a yellow bulldog, and Tom's Girlfriend, The Shark, Jerry's Dog, and several robots where Tom was a security operator at a cheese mine. Other people that worked on the show were Les Goldman, Maurice Noble, Michael Maltese, Tom Ray, Earl Jonas, Lewis Marshall, Eugene Poddany, Bill Lava, Dean Elliott, Carl Brandt, Mel Blanc, June Foray, Abe Levitow, Ben Washam, Don Foster, and Walter Bien. They would later do several Dr. Seuss cartoons along with Depatie-Freeling Entertainment, the Cricket seties, Duck Dodgers, and many other Award Winning shows.

Filmation:

Many years later, Filmation attempted to produce Tom & Jerry. It was a TV show called The Tom & Jerry Comedy Show. It seemed to look like all the Tom & Jerry cartoons in the 1950s and 1960s. They also aired and produced some other MGM cartoons, like the ones that are directed by Tex Avery. The episodes of The Tom & Jerry Comedy Show are mentioned here.

The New Tom and Jerry Show and The Tom and Jerry Kids Show:

HB's TV versions. Neither lasted long, but several people still remember Them. They weren't that violent either. They were about the characters trying to solve everyday problems. Tom & Jerry Kids had other charachers as kids that were also produced by Fred Quimby, Including Tex Avery's Cartoon Characters.

Now:

Tom & Jerry was recently produced by AOL Time Warner and Turner Home Entertainment. They aren't the best cartoons.

• When Chuck Jones took over...

  In my opinion, the first 100 or so episodes were superb. However, when Chuck Jones started directing, the series went downhill. The characters horrible and I just didn't find it funny anymore... Does anybody know why / when Chuck Jones started getting involved?

  BETTR THAN CRAPJACK!!!!!!!!!! hide « show »

  An instant classic cartoon. The greatest show ever made from the genious Hanna Barbera cartoons. The shows mainly about Tom cat and Jerry mouse who get into alot of violet fighting and chasing. The characters are lovable escpecially Jerry. And i enjoyed the ones produced from Chuck Jones the best. But the show started really getting stupid in the 20's. They made horrible spin offs starring our 2 favorite lovable stars "Tom and Jerry" in horrible 1 hour movies. They made stupid ones like the trip to mars which sucked, and the one about the pirates was probably the worst, the racing sucked too, and the magic ring was crap. They ruined Tom and Jerry, i'm just glad they stopped making movies like that, but still this show is great and even today, it's fun too watch.

  My most favorite cartoon from the good old days, ever!! hide « show »

  Tom and Jerry is a show based on a house cat trying to catch and either eat or destroy a brown mouse that goes by the name of Jerry. Tom's sir name is Tom Cat. However, wherever Tom and Jerry usually are, Tom's plans to defeat Jerry always get foiled somehow and cause Tom to even take a beating sometimes. Whether they are in a house or out west, or even located near a barn, Jerry always succeeds on whatever the mission is, like guarding a pet baby duck from being eaten or a pet goldfish, or just him trying to survive solo by not being eaten or destroyed by mouse traps or explosives. Also, in some episodes, there is also a big gray dog shown protecting Jerry as dogs and mice are allies in this show, and goes after Tom whenever he is causing a problem towards Jerry! There's also a few episodes showing the dog with his son, who is an adorable little puppy! That's the story based on this show, watching crazy and fun adventures and dangerous stunts with Tom and Jerry! I love this show very much. Its one of those great classic cartoons with clean and colorful animation also provided with top-notch quality and entertainment.

  This show was a really good funny show.Including all of those Tom traps that Jerry uses at him all the time.It's really funny and really classic.I love this show and everything about it.Jerry wins all the time in almost every episode of Tom and Jerry.Tom wins sometimes and I dislike that.But it's still funny with all those traps that play on someone sometimes.It's HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHIRALIOUS!I mean really,it's so funny where the characters always get hit by something and they lay flat.All the time,it is so funny and it's one of the best classic shows ever made and I really love it.

  69 Years and still amazing hide « show »

  I just spent about 10 minutes writting a review then accidently pressed reset instead of submit. Anway here we go again. Tom and Jerry is an excellent show it has ran for 69 years and is still enjoyed by alot of people. It has short episodes but they are all different and all excelent. The characters in the show are all different in personallity and size. My favourite episode has to be the christmas special when jerry and his cousion are trying to make there way across the dinner table and tom is trying to stop them. Thanks for reading :)

  I love this show. I hate the modernised one because it is recent and, well, just bad! Anyway, Tom and Jerry I think is an absolutely billiant show. My favourites are Tom, Spike and Jerry but, of course, they can all have their moments (mostly Jerry, of course)! To be honest I really cannot think of anything else to type of this show other than it is pure and utter delight. I used to watch it every morning and see what episode it is and enjoy (mostly) every moment. I like the very old ones like the very first one. It is hillarious.
