"Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard, a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years."

My thoughts on what might happen thirty years after Blade Runner and the renegade Nexus 6 Replicants. My thoughts are influenced of the promotional trailer released by Warner Bros on December 19, 2016. Also used to get ideas are the promotional photos released to Entertainment Weekly which gives small hints to the film.

First we must understand that Rick Deckard is over with the RepDetect Division at the end of the first movie. He will try to get away from the polluted city and what better way than to head to one of the off-world colonies. In part to see what in the first case caused the Replicants to rebel at the colony - not quite giving up on the job. The life at the colonies are declared to be superior to life on earth.

“A new life awaits you in the off-world colonies, a chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure."

From director Ridley Scott it is learnt that Blade Runner 2049 will start off at a farming outpost.

1. Off World Mars

Something I interpret as being a terraformed Mars. The shots shown in the trailer shows a dust covered vista. The buildings shown could probably be the bulky offices of the mining corp or the Off Colony HQ.

The architecture seems more like a bunker on a space station than a building in Los Angeles, where the buildings are retrofitted and using old style. We most likely will find Deckard here on Mars where he gets news of something down in Los Angeles. He takes a shuttle to earth. The shots in the trailer shows K, who will arrive at Mars only to find Deckard gone.

2. L.A. 2049

Over the course of thirty years, the climate in Los Angeles has changed from a rainy gloom to a frost bitten snow-kippkle downpour, covering downtown in a white slush. Chinatown is partly covered with roofing and the bustling life and power consumption melts the snow to the characteristic rain. Or it might be an erratic cycling of temperature found in L.A. in 2049 due to climate change.

This is where we find K, of LAPD RepDetect (Ryan Gosling). My guess is that he is conducting a case involving a girl of the night, Joi (Ana de Armas). The specifics are unclear, but somehow a secret is uncovered, leading to the search for former LAPD RepDetect Rick Deckard.

Old style is what we find in the scene where LAPD RepDetect officer K finally finds Deckard later in the film.

3. Hotel, theatre, museum or Casino in Los Angeles

K enters the retrofitted casino in the outskirts of Los Angeles, complete with old style lounges and executive rooms. Here, K find himself faced with an old version of himself as a part of the trail of Deckard and finds him under a Blood Moon phase giving the outer parts of Los Angeles a red hue.

If I’m to guess, a plot from DADOES ( Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) by Philip K Dick, might come into play, A competing divison of LAPD is run by Replicants which know they are Replicants. The chaos hinted in the synopsis could be a police force fighting its own.

While Deckard had his doubts about his humanity thirty years ago he now should be sure he’s human having aged as he has. That is if he wasn’t one of the types mass produced and he the aging original.

4. Paired guns

Together, K and Deckard decide to wipe out the evil side of LAPD whichever side it may be.

Comment on my thoughts and tell me what I got wrong in October when the film has premiered!

I loved it. I dont buy Ryan Gosling as a replicant hunting badass though. We shall see.

While I liked the original film, I didnt love it like most. Perhaps I should give it a re-watch.
