An Ianto-themed episode
Ianto Jones hides a very big secret at Torchwood - his half-converted girlfriend from the Canary Wharf Battle - down in the basement. The pizza girl who is unnamed during the episode, is identified as Annie in the end credits. (edit)
For reasons unexplained in the episode, Lisa's partially cyber-converted form wears two-inch heels instead of the heavy boots worn by other Cybermen, however she still makes the same heavy footed sound as other Cybermen when she walks. The design of her costume is also very similar to the gynoid Maria in Fritz Lang's 1927 film Metropolis. (edit)
The premiere of this episode had 1.39 million viewers (edit)
This story revolved around the results of Doctor Who episodes "Army of Ghosts" and "Doomsday". (edit)

Quotes

Toshiko: All I'm saying is, once in a while, I'd like to drive!
Owen: And all I'm saying is no!
Toshiko: Why not?!
Owen: Look, I've shared cars with women before. I know what'll happen. There'll be an emergency, we're all raring to go, I jump in, what do I find? Seat's in the wrong position, the rear view mirror's out of line and the steering wheel's in my crotch. Time it takes to sort it all out, aliens'll have taken Newport. (edit)
Jack: (Entertaining the rest of the team) And she said, "do you know how difficult it is to find a man in this city? He had a nice flat, all his own hair, so frankly, a couple of tusks, I can live with"! (edit)
Dr. Tanizaki: (On seeing Lisa) My God! It's not possible! One of them survived! (edit)
Gwen: He's never seen a live rugby match!
Jack: I have other things to do with my time!
Gwen: Rhys knows a bloke whose cousin works at the Millennium Stadium. We should all go to the next home international. (edit)
Jack: (Over the coms) Ianto, come in Ianto. If I don't hear those beautiful Welsh vowels, I'm coming to look for you. (edit)

Trivia

add »
Goof: When the pizza girl delivers the pizza, she only has the two boxes. She isn't carrying anything that would resemble a coleslaw container, which Ianto ordered at the beginning of the episode. (edit)
At the end of the episode, you can hear the same drumming pattern from the Doctor Who episodes involving Jack, "The Sound of Drums", and "The Last of the Time Lords". (edit)
When the hub's powers is being drained by Lisa as she recharges Toshiko runs a bio scan which shows two heat signals in the storage room, however at that moment Ianto is carrying Dr. Tanizaki's body down the corridor and Lisa is alone in the storage room so the signals should be separate. (edit)
Unlike the Cybermen of the primary Doctor Who universe, the parallel Earth Cybermen usually transplant human brains into Cyberman bodies. The conversion of Lisa by means of direct grafting of cyber-components is more reminiscent of the Mondas/Telos Cybermen's methods of conversion. (edit)
Dr. Tanizaki is indentified as being the head of the Cybertechnology Institute of Osaka, founded in 2007 after the Cyberman invasion. The purpose of the CiO is to monitor and learn from the Cybermen and their debris. The existence of the CiO is another nail in the coffin of the psychotropic drugs explanation for the Cyber Invasion. (edit)

Allusions

add »
Lisa telling Ianto that they can be together is very similar to the Doctor Who episode "Fear Her", when Chloe Webber, who was being possesed by an isolus, said that they could "be together". (edit)
Captain Jack: Check with that guy Neil, I think his name was, voice like Sean Connery, at Jodrell Bank.
Jodrell Bank is a space observatory near Goostrey in Cheshire, UK. Sean Connery is a well-known Scottish actor who is best known for playing James Bond (a secret agent in books written by Ian Fleming).
(edit)
Rhys: Can you tape Wife Swap for me?
Wife Swap is a reality television show shown on Channel 4 where the two wives are swapped with each other for a period of two weeks. (edit)

Mediocre
Cyberwoman
"Not my favorite storyline"
When Torchwood was first announced, it was described as "Doctor Who for adults". On the strength of 'Cyberwoman', it's Doctor Who for adolescent boys.

Ianto may be quiet, but that doesn't make him a monk... He has a hot girlfriend, who's into metal.
