Thanks for the heads up, Missribs. Can we have at least one day to copy some of our old messages before they're deleted?

Please tell us exactly when this will occur.

Please, oh please do not delete non-system messages.

    Specifically, do not implement:
"3) We are no longer saving SENT items over 90 days old. After 90 days, it will be removed from your outbox."

If people have large PM boxes (not me), then perhaps it is better to ask them to remove stuff themselves. Then if they don't, you can delete some items.

Now I have to run around and figure out what's worth saving and where to save it.

i usually clean up system messages but even if I wanted to right now, i can't delete anything

And honestly i'd like to keep my messages sent to me by real people, and the outgoings as well.
I'm sure the system messages are the ones that are taking the most space not personal pms

Another great innovation from the good people at TV.com. Thank you thank you thank you missribs. That will save me having to make decisions about which PMs I want to retain.

Switching form sarcasm mode for a moment… I'm more than a little concerned that PMs I have sent and for which I await a reply will be deleted under the new regime. Will the process eventually clear the 34 phantom unread PMs that have been showing next to my envelope icon for the past few days?

Sorry to be dense, but what does "SYSTEM sent messages" mean? Does this mean messages that are automatic PMs, like notifications that someone is tracking you and a submission is accepted? Or does it mean PMs sent by people?

    I believe so, yes.

Apparently, it means ALL pms sent by the system. They've deleted all outbox email before February.

This is something else I worry about too.

Yes, I noticed that too. This really pisses me off that I've lost things that I had wanted to keep. At the same time, I probably won't miss them.

I'm a little worried.  How do I send a message?  Because I wanted to send a message but there are no "Reply" and "Send" boxes at the bottom!  Please help me!

Your computer screen needs to be set at a resolution that is higher than 800 by 600 to see those send/reply buttons.

You can also send (or save changes in preferences), with these steps, if you can't or don't want to change resolution:

    1. Choose (highlight) the last word of text in the window (preferences) or put the cursor in the message area (PMs).

    2. Click TAB (on keyborad, of course) 3 times (Preferences) or 1 time (PMs).

    3. Click ENTER.

But it's worth only as a temporary solution.

Happily, when the system deleted all my system notifications, I was able to see that the 34 unread messages that mysteriously appeared in my mailbox the other week were system notifications dated December 2005.

Happily, too, I find that I have sent reminders to missribs within the past three months about all the urgent issues that I had written her about in December/January, so I still have a reference point.

TV.com. You couldn't make it up.

I think this is a dumb idea. Maybe not for some, but for me it is. Couldn't you at least have a say in which messages the system can save or something? Like checking a box next to it and it will not be deleted. Ever. Unless you choose to? Now i gotta go around and figure out where i want to save the messages that i WANT to keep. DON'T say that's what your blog is for.
