Since there has been a lot of turnover in editorships over the last 5 months, many editors are taking over guides that were largely completed/edited by other people. (I am one of these "new" editors.) Some of the guest stars that were added to guides used incorrect or outdated character names. Some of these names appear in the list of recurring characters.

There are a couple problems with this. When other people want to contribute to the guide, they may be tempted to use the checkbox and add the actor using the incorrect character name. If the editor wants to keep the guide accurate, he or she will have to reject those submissions.

Another problem is the cast list. When viewing the complete cast list for the show, recurring roles appear at the very end. Even if all the individual episode credits are corrected with the proper character name, the recurring roles list will still show the incorrect character name.

It would be very helpful to give editors the power to correct these inaccuracies. As it stands, the cast lists are incorrect in many guides and there is no way to fix it.

This makes me wish we could correct the spelling of the names of characters without removing and resubmitting the actor's name, like at TV Tome.

I am still trying to figure out how the recurrings are being picked up. It's would be cool if we could edit them, but when you start messing with the cast I usually find you have your work cut out for you...if you know what I mean!

I absolutely agree. I think if an editor has earned his/her guide, they should be able to control everything that goes on in the guide. That includes recurring characters, similar shows and other features.

That's the biggest thing we need. I've recently picked up a guide where half of all guests have asterisks after their names based on some criteria the old Tvtome editor had. It's been a horrible task to do a two step add/delete to get rid of the asterisks.

After going through the first three seasons of the Canadian Idol cast list, I have to agree with this. The guide was a mess (dup ID's, incorrect names, just plain wrong information) due to having had several editors over time (2 or 3 at TVTome and I'm the third on TV.com). I've heard such good things about the TVTome cast editor that I'd love to see that here.

I think they should try to make it work first.

I agree that they should make it work first too. I've been trying to add characters that need to be listed as reoccuring and it hasn't worked on the show cast page, but lists them in their profile. And even then, the reoccuring designation shows up without the actual episodes listing. Then sometimes a few episodes slip through and are listed.

I think there was a one-time run through where everyone who appeared in X number of episodes showed up in recurring. I wonder if it would fix a lot of the problems if they did the same run through now that many guides have had some serious editting?

The recurring stars script has run recently. I've seen new names on the list. The problem is that the submission form for episode cast still has the incorrect names/character names, and those names still show up on the list of characters for the show under the Cast tab.

What really bothers me is that one of the major characters in Battlestar Galactica, Saul Tigh, is still showing up on the show cast page as Paul Tigh. It reflects poorly on the guide if the name of such a major character is misspelled. I have corrected the name in every individual episode but there's no way for me to correct his name on the cast page. Another character, Karl "Helo" Agathon, is listed as Lt Helo. That is incorrect. Helo is a nickname/call sign, not the character's real name.
