Long-running quiz show based on the US format "College Bowl". Two teams of four students representing inistitutions of higher education, answer questions of a generally more difficult standard than most quiz shows. The original ITV incarnation started on a winner-stays-on system with teams retiring after three victories and the top-scorers returning for a knock-out phase at the end of the series, later changing to the straight knock-out system carried through to the BBC revival.
