TheDeadMans Short or Long Journal Rants

  • The Dark Knight - Review (Spoiler Free)

Over the years, comic book movies have evolved. When we were blessed with the Superman franchise back in the '80's, people were starting to realize how in depth these comic book characters are. People have their favorites when it comes to the characters, but when it comes to me, I am in Batmans corner till the end. Something about a real person with no particular supernatural advantages appealed to me.

After the Horrific plunder of Schumakers "Batman and Robin", Batfans all across the world were screaming for someone to come along and give this amazing story the justice it deserves. After a long wait, directoral newcomer Christopher Nolan came along and completely forgot about Burton and Schumakers batman. "Batman Begins" was released, and was widely considered the best of all of them.

Nolan brought to Begins a brand new cast. Christian Bale portrayed Batman (in my opinion) perfectly. With Bale and Nolan came a whole slew of actors including veterens Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Gary Oldman.

Begins was a commercial sucess, but it left people asking "What's next?"

On July 18th, 2008, The Dark Knight was released after much viral marketing hype. Did it live up to it?

Yes, it did. Returning was the full A-List cast excluding the only Begins dragdown, Katie Holmes. But a few newcomers came, too.

Aaron Eckhart hasent been recognized much, but his portrayel of Harvey Dent was superb, and very believing. Considering its not the easiest of characters to play, Eckhart should get a lot of recognition for this. He really performed superbly.

But the show stealer was by far the leater Heath Ledger, who portrayed Joker in such a twisted and psychopathic manner that it begged the question, "How the hell is this rated PG-13?". Ledgers Joker was so out of place among the other type of characters, yet felt right at home.

A lot of talk has been going around about the Oscar for Ledger. Well I must say, he deserves this one more than anyone in the world.

OVERALL: The cinematic perfection known as The Dark Knight has not flaws in my book, and not only contends as the best crime movie of all time, but the best overall movie of all time.

    MY RANK: A+ 10/10 * * * * *

  • DM's Deadly Review - The Incredible Hulk (2008 Film)

I'm not against watching a superhero movie by any means. Something about a completely fictitous character saving the day always attracted me. Hell, my favorite movie of all time is Christopher Nolans 'Batman Begins'. But thats not what we are here to talk about.

Since the 2003 adaption of the comic book series, Hulk fans everywhere have been crying for a movie that actually acurately describes the Incredible Hulk storyline. They wanted a movie that wasent complete **** to put it simply. Well, I must tell you, this is what they got.

I am not going to be completely soft on the movie, because there were a few flaws. For one, when I watched the movie, I was lost for a few minutes. It started pretty blandly. I actually at one point thought to myself, "Did I walk into a different movie?". But it picked up afterwards. I did read a few Hulk comics back in the day, and I can tell you, it did acurately describe what happened.

This movie is actually quite hard to talk about without spoiling the **** out of it, but ill try.

The action in the movie was superb! Most people go into a Hulk movie expecting some gigantic green monster completely destroying a city, and that, my friends, is what they got. Infact, they got two! The Abomination is the perfect villan to start the Hulk series on. Like the Iron Monger in Ironman, it was pretty much an equal fight from the view of the fans. But overall, the action is just what made this movie. When I was in there, my heart was racin with the suspense and the story, and I just couldent wait for the next action packed scene. THE ACTION IS WHAT MADE THIS MOVIE!

The storyline seemed to drag on a bit. The basic plot included Bruce Banner (The Hulk) running from the U.S. Military because they want to duplicate what happened to him. I wont go any further than that.

This is my first Deadly Review so it wont be as indepth as the next ones probably will be. But allow me to give you my verdict on the five traits I choose to rate this movie on.

    ACTION: A+
    STORYLINE: C
    ACTING: A
    REWATCH VALUE: B
    SPECIAL EFFECTS: B

  • DM's Deadly Reviews - My New Blog Series

My blog has gotten pretty boring lately, so I am launching a new "Review" series, where I review movies, games, or shows I experience. I hope it gets some feedback, because I hate typing.
