    ABOUT ME

    my story:
I blog, therefore I am? I finished my lengthy education some years ago. Underworked, underpaid and overread, I suppose. I read up on news, history, literature, science, fitness, tech and Internet topics. I traveled to England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Canada and Mexico a while ago, but not recently. I used to play classical/jazz piano and jazz/rock guitar, but not so much these days. I'm currently training to compete in my first Olympic-distance triathlon and/or marathon next year, possibly the 2009 Nation's Triathlon and/or the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon. I'll probably try out some shorter races before then. ********************************************************************************************* TV Tome and TV.com helped me catch up on NYPD Blue in 2003 and 2004. Though I joined TV.com in June 2005, I didn't start posting on the forums on a regular basis until Sept. 2005 (except for one post on July 11, 2005). I only follow a couple currently airing shows on a regular basis, including Battlestar Galactica (of course). [Time Magazine named BSG the best show on television in their 2005 year-end edition.] I watch sports, a couple sci-fi shows, and Discovery Channel shows like Deadliest Catch, Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters from time to time. A new favorite is the physically demanding Ninja Warrior (Sasuke) contest on G4. Some of my favorite older shows are Hawaii Five-O, NYPD Blue, The Crocodile Hunter and Star Trek. My favorite channels are the Universal Sports channel, the Discovery Channel, The Science Channel and the Sci Fi Channel but I don't always watch TV on a daily basis. I enjoy meeting people from all over the U.S. and around the world on this site. However, I've been less than pleased with the site redesign in Sept. 2008 and the lingering bugs almost 3 months later. I'm also disappointed with the lying and cheating going on with certain individuals (editors) on the site. That partly explains my personal blog blackout in the fall of 2008. Maybe I'll return to blogging again soon. ********************************************************************************************* One of my wishes is to appear in a James Bond movie someday, even if only in a very minor role. Or visit the set of the new Battlestar Galactica series and meet the cast. [Alas, it's too late now.] I was in the Community Spotlight from 5/8/06 to 5/10/06. ********************************************************************************************* Be sure to check out my original online novel-in-progress set in the universe of the new Battlestar Galactica series. Just as BSG is not your typical science-fiction show, I hope you'll find that my novel is not your typical fan-fiction piece. The novel is posted on my other TV.com account, 123home-BSG. The link is located below.

    • An October update

Well, it's been exactly a month since my last blog post. Not long after that post, we saw the site redesign and its attendant problems. I can live with most of the changes but the bugs need to go. I'd also like to get back the longer Tracked Blogs list. I haven't been looking at too many blog posts lately because it's too time-consuming to open up the full Tracked Blogs list and wait for all the photos to download.I've been busy at work for the last two months. I worked every single day for about three weeks at one point. I worked most of the day on one Sunday and stayed until 5:30 am the following morning. I got a little rest that Monday and the next day but on the following Wednesday I worked until 3 in the morning. After a brief respite, we're getting busy again. At least I'm... Read more »

    • Reflections on the world from the great outdoors

Since I'm going to be working very late for the rest of the week (10 pm, 11 pm or even midnight), I thought I'd write up another blog post using my smart phone. I've been collecting a few ideas for a new blog post. I don't have access to my home computer right now but I remember most of the topics. As you may have heard, the European Center for Nuclear Research started up its Large Hadron Collider today deep underneath the ground outside Geneva, Switzerland. The $6 billion facility is one of the most ambitious scientific projects in human history. Physicists will speed particles close to the speed of light using massive superconducting magnets. Two beams will travel in opposing directions in the circular facility. Then the two beams will be maneuvered so that the particles collide in an... Read more »

(I would provide a hyperlink but I'm typing this on my BlackJack II smart phone. It's not easy to add hyperlinks using my phone. EDIT: I added the hyperlink manually. It doesn't seem to be working properly though. I'll fix it later.)You could probably join later on but you would... Read more »
