My Star Wars Marathon

*Sorry, for some reason this wont format the way I want it to*

After the saga has been on DVD for about two years; me, my brother, and a friend decided it was about time we sit down and watch it all. Its much easier for my brother to find friends to share the experience with, being a guy (silly close minded, biased women).

Our parents are the ones who introduced Star Wars to us when we were younger, although we have since surpassed them with our obsession, so they popped in once in awhile. Me and my brother are the only ones who watched the whole thing (I wish I knew more fans
), my brother's friend had to leave after A New Hope, and our parents watched most of Clones Wars Volume II – Return on the Jedi with us.

The Schedule

Saturday, March 8

7:00 pm: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

9:30 pm: Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones

12:00 am: Clones Wars: Volume I

Sunday, March 9

10:00 am

(Although we though it was 9:00 am): Clones Wars: Volume II

11:00 am: Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith

1:30 pm: Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope

4:00 pm: Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back

6:30 pm: Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi

Total time: 26 hrs

Total watching time: 17 hrs

I really wanted to also watch Empire of Dreams, and finish things off with a round of Star Wars Trivial Pursuit Saga Edition, but we didn't have time. It would have been much better if it had been a long weekend. Even though one is coming up, my bro and his friend didn't want to wait any longer. They had been planning for weeks.

The Menu

2 ½ 2L bottles of Root Beer

2 jugs of punch

2 bags of Ketchup chips

2 bags of All Dressed

1 bag of Barbeque

1 bag of Regular with New Tostitos Spinach Dip

1 bag of Tostitos w/ salsa and New Southwestern Ranch Dip

1 bag of Fritos Hoops

Equipment

47" Sony rear projection TV

Dell desktop hooked up for up conversion

Standard two speaker stereo hooked up for "surround sound"

Afterthoughts

You know when you are listening to one of your favourite albums, you can hear the next song before it starts? I am sure some of you do that with movies too. You can see and hear the next scene before it starts. Well, I do that with Star Wars, but a lot of the scenes are not what I expect since I watched the original versions so many times before the Special Editions came out. It threw me off every time. The original versions were not necessarily better, but they are nostalgic to me now, and I wish I could watch them that way still. I had them on VHS for so long, but then I got the boxset and got rid of the VHSs. But if I am not mistaken, I believe the original versions came out on DVD about a year after the boxset, even though George Lucas swore he would never release them. Well, I am not the type to buy it twice. The thing I miss the most from the original version is the celebration song at the end of Return of the Jedi. Whenever I think of the celebration I get the old song in my head, and I almost cant remember the new one. I really wish I could find a place to download the original one. A lot of the other changes weren't a big deal to me. I like the new scenes of Luke riding into Mos Eisley, and of the Millenium Falcon flying into the cloud city, and also all the added windows. The new songs in Jabba's palace are odd, and seem out of place to me, but I didn't have any strong feelings for the originals. The stuff that most people considered major; Jabba in A New Hope, Greedo/Han shot first, Hayden Christensen in Return of the Jedi, didn't really bother me. *shrug*

For as long as I can remember I have been in love with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ok, maybe not as long as I can remember. It definitely started after Episode I came out but I cant remember exactly when. Ewan McGregor is definitely hot, but the character is what does it mostly. I have a thing for Jedi I guess. I love how serious and honorable they are. I find it very attractive, lol. I don't go for the bad boy in this case. Han is a great character, as is everyone, but I am not a fan in the way that a lot of women are. I never felt this way before this weekend, but I now find Luke attractive, mostly in Return of the Jedi. Now mostly Jedi. He handled himself excellently when taken to the Emperor, considering. The way he spoke. "I feel the good within you. Let go of your hate." And he was wearing a great black outfit the whole movie, not that it made him physically attractive, but really added to the persona. I love it.

It was a lot of fun of course, to watch the entire saga almost in one sitting. It felt different watching A New Hope after just finishing the prequel trilogy. At the end of Revenge of the Sith, Yoda and Obi-Wan are on Tantive IV, and we see Vader, and Leia being given to Senator Organa. Then, suddenly we are on Tantive IV again, 20 years later, and Vader and Leia are there. It really brings things together nicely.

Maybe I'll do it again in a few years.

My position in the Moonlight vs. Blood Ties battle

Now that I have seen every episode of both series I think I am ready to make a decision as to where I stand in this new and fierce battle. So, Lets's begin:

Moonlight

Moonlight stars Alex O'Loughlin as the character of Mick St. John, a PI and 85 year old vampire. He is a very likable and decently attractive character, although I cant imagine watching the show for his looks, and I am disappointed in him as a vampire. He is Mick, the friendly vampire, but a little too friendly. He hates being a vampire and would change back in a second. He refuses to bite ppl to feed even if they volunteer, and instead gets blood from the hospital which he drinks out of a glass. Boring. He has no vampire flare. And on top of that, vampires in this show dont burst into flames when they go into the sunlight, or die when they are steaked in the heart, it only paralyzes them. That is a good thing when you consider how many good characters have been steaked in Moonlight, but in most vampire shows it doesnt happen as often. They are usually more difficult to steak, but easier to kill. Vampires in Moonlight can only be killed by decapitation or fire. Like Mick, Josef doesnt have vampire flare either, even less than Mick in fact, even though he is supposed to be about 400 years old. I much prefer Josef as a character (love his smile), as men of the 21st century, but neither make very good vampires.

And of course the women. Beth is a reporter. How likable can that be? She is rather boring and sometimes annoying. Not a very good female lead, and not especially attractive either. Pretty in a plain way, nothing more. Coraline on the other hand is absolutely gorgeous, and a much more complex character, but I dont find myself really rooting for her either. At least she looks good while being annoying. If I had to choose a woman for Mick I would definitely go with Beth, they would make a good couple and they make a decent ship, but this show is strongest as a PI drama. Not as a romance or a vampire show. All work no play.

Blood Ties

Blood Ties is very different from Moonlight and I dont really see why the fans see the need to fight. The only similary is the setup, but there are many many differences. Blood Ties stars Christina Cox as Vicki Nelson, a PI and ex cop. She has two occasional partners; ex partner, Mike Celluci from her time as a cop; and Henry Fitzroy, a 488 year old vampire, illegitemate son of King Henry VIII. Vicki also has a young goth assistant, Coreen .

Vicki is a very headstrong but likable character. She has a very unusual but sexy look that has really grown on me. Unlike in Moonlight, it is not the investigator who is supernatural, but the cases. In Blood Ties we meet a new monster every week, and this is how Vicki met Henry in the first episode. Blood ties is very, very supernatural.

Henry is the perfect depiction of a vampire. He oozes sophistication. His vast experiences show and he definitely has the vampire flare. He has charm and passion for life, life as a vampire. He is also incredibley sexy and I can imagine watching the show only to see him. And in Blood Ties there and two men and one woman, instead of two women and one man. Like most, I would choose Henry for Vicki over Mike, and their relationship is the shows strongest point, with vampirism, and supernatural creatures in general, not far behind. PI work is only a backdrop for Vicki and Herny's story.

In Comparison

Its easy to see from their apartments who has more vampire flare.

Mick's apartment

Henry's aprtment

Henry also looks better when he goes vamp.

Although Moonlight has the most beautiful woman in Coraline, Blood Ties has the hotter, and all around better leading lady, imo. But I am one of those ppl who, while judging beauty, thinks the more unique the better. I dont care for the girl next door look.

Coraline of Moonlight

Beth of Moonlight

Vicki of Blood Ties

Both shows have something to offer, it just depends what you are looking for. I personally prefer Blood Ties because it has better characters and that is always the most important thing in a show to me. But I will continue watching and supporting both shows.

I was a little worried when Mick told Beth that the cure would last maybe six months. Six months!? How can you have a vampire show without a vampire? But it turned out great. One episode for Mick to realize its better as a vampire. And the way it ws done...wow! It was perfect, turning back for Beth. It was quite the emotional moment as Josef turned him back....And hot! It was really nice to see the way Josef was effected. He acts like a hard ass, but its great to know he actually cares. But he was still funny in this episode. "Remember the tarpits." It really had everything that makes Moonlight great in this episode.

I still cant understand why this show couldnt stay on the air. It is amazing! Non-stop intrigue. You really have no clue what is going to happen next, and everything on such a large scale! Its not just about a small town in Kansas, its about the fate of the country! There is so much happening that it is never boring, and it is all relevant to the story, no pointless wondering. In the first season I was amazed enough with how they managed to keep off ppl like Jonah Prowse, Newbern, and Ravenwood. But in season two they were fighting a government that came to power by destroying 23 major American cities! How do you stand up to ppl like that? Well, a few ppl from Kansas hold their own.

This is an extremely campy and entertaining show. Dont watch it if you take things too seriously. Even with some bad writing near the end, the characters managed to grow. With exception to Tyr, the characters managed to escape the bad writing. Poor Tyr's character was destroyed in the beginning of season 4, but I just like to pretend that didnt happen. The characters are one of the shows strongest elements. Andromeda's crew is very eclectic. They all have their strengths that they contribute as crew members, and also as characters. They are also mostly pretty darn good to look at.

The show also has great adventures. The Magog world ship is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen in sci-fi, and I cant believe the crew went in it and came out alive! Ok, of course I can imagine, because its Andromeda! Andromeda is pretty extreme, like Star Trek, in the amount of Alien races they meet and often ally themselves with. Its quite incredible to see so many different alien civilizations and ships. Anyway, its just lots of fun.

Be warned, although they knew the end was coming, and made what was supposed to be a conclusion as the finale, it really wasnt. I would call the finale a cliffhanger.

Max is an escaped, genetically engineered soldier prototype working as a bike messenger, hunted by her former military handlers through the edgy, underground street life of post-apocalyptic Seattle. Original? No doubt. There is never a dull moment, as Max learns more about the company that created her, why she was created, what her powers are, who is hunting her, and many other incredible secrets. The only letdown is the fact that the show was canceled, and not all Max's questions get answered. It stars Jessica Alba, Michael Weatherly, Jensen Ackles, and Ashley Scott; four sexy now-famous actors, if you still had any doubt.

NCIS
Avg Score: 9.17    Total Ratings: 6750    Total Reviews: 396
NCIS follows a case through the medical examiner, detectives (Special Agents), and forensic scientist. There are very few lawyers, but it still covers more of the process than maybe even Law and Order, so there is something for everyone. Since NCIS is the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, they handle a lot of terrorist and international threats, which gives it an easy advantage over other crime dramas; much more intrigue and longer arced cases. But its strongest element is the characters, like most great shows. The characters are as important, if not more important, as the weeks case. The development rivals or surpasses that of many sci-fi shows, which usually have the most highly developed characters. Call me biased.
