Can you tell I'm bitter?

Hello. I am a Canadian. For those of you who don't know, this means I reside in the vast blob of land directly above (or, in the case of Alaska, to the East of) the US. Some of us, with satalite dishes, or even cable, get American channels, too!

Unfortunately, to all those network execs, because of my nationality, I don't exist. Neither do my friends in the rest of Canada, Europe, or Australia. My American friends who use a DVR/VCR to record programs and watch later don't exist either, nor do the ones who actually watch a show when it's on, because none of them have a Neilson box.

Just because we don't exist, however, does not mean we don't watch your advertisments or buy your DVDs. It definately does not make us content to sit about while you fill your channels with more and more brainless reality shows, while zaping the life of worthwhile television programming. Because you see, unlike ditzy sluts, run-of-the-mill singers, and people arguing amongst themselves merely because they're on tv, television writers make us care.

I cried when Buffy/Angel's Angel, Cordelia, Fred, and Wesley died; when Burke left Christina; when Rory left to accomplish her journalism goals. I was filled with pride when my Degrassi TNG favorites graduated. I was utterly horrified to see what Veronica's Beaver had become, and saddened by the crap that the Dicks put him through growing up. When Spooks' Danny died, I was so upset I wouldn't even watch it for several months.

As I said, television writers make us care. Not just about the characters, but about the series as a whole. Regardless of our nationality, viewing preferences, and Neilson box access, we care when the shows we love are snatched away from us.

Let us take a moment to remember the shows that weren't even given a chance:

Firefly (FOX - eventually made into a movie. I bet they're kicking themselves now!); Wonderfalls (FOX), Justice (FOX), Runaway (The CW), Conviction (NBC), Drive (FOX), and others.

...And the shows that didn't receive the send-off they deserved:

Gilmore Girls (The CW), Veronica Mars (The CW), Tru Calling (FOX), Beautiful People (ABC Family), and others.

...And lastly, the shows that the majority of Neilson box owners seemed too unintelligent to appriciate:

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (NBC), the first list in its entirety, and others.

Would someone please explain to me how exactly it's fair that someone I've never met, in another country, whose tastes are likely entirely different from mine, gets to determine what I'm able to watch on the television set I purchased, with the satellite access I (well, alright, my parents, but still) pay for monthly. I don't want more reality shows. Hell, I don't even need new dramas, comedies, and what have you. Just stop cancelling shows that are more worthwhile than what you've got between your ears.

It's annoying, unfair, and idiotic.

Renewed! *does a little dance*

Bones gets a second season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Adding so many extra exclamation marks just made me die a little inside. But you know what? I don't care!

I no longer believe FOX cancels all the good shows. They only cancel most of them.

Needing to kill some time, I turned on the TV and began to flick through channels. One of them has a commercial on; I get up and go get something to eat. I came back into the room only to see some brighty-colored psychotic cartoon on one of the kids' channels.

Shrugging, I sat down and watched it.

A waste of twenty minutes of my life, Mew Mew Power appeared to me as some new Sailor Moon-esque parade of insanity designed soley to entertian young girls until they're driven away by the constant barrage of bright colors and go off to find a darker, more mature program on which to waste their life.

And yet, I couldn't manage to pull myself away.

The show itself actually made a bit of sense; teenage girls has powers of some sort, goes off to find other girls with similar abilities, and together they all fight evil and all that fun stuff (which would be where I drew the Sailor Moon parallels). However, even the slightly darker bits (few and far between) are a bit to fluffy for my tastes.

All in all, a bizzare show that, while doubtlessly enjoyed thoroughly by some, will never be one that I feel compelled to watch regularly.

Veronica Mars

I originally started watching Veronica Mars about half way through the first season last summer (on CTV) simply because there was nothing else on.

I absolutely adored it.

Each of the show's two seasons (and upcoming third) revolve around one big mystery- who killed Lily Kane, who caused the bush crash -but each episode has a mystery of its own. On occasion, they can be a tad obvious, for example, An Echolls Family Christmas, but for the most part, the writing just doesn't give you enough information unil the last few minutes to reveal the culprit.

Apart from the characters and writing, the aspect I love most of the show is that the big mystery is NEVER predctable.

True, you've various leads throughout the season, but they never pan out. Never. Up until the last two or three weeks of the season, you don't even know enough to properly GUESS what really happened, though if it hadn't been for the failed leads previously, Veronica would never have glimpsed the information needed to catch the killer.

Nor are things always as you expect. The bad guy does NOT get sent to prison for a very long time, what may appear to be conclusions to a smaller mystery very well may not be, people aren't who they claim, and characters you would never, ever suspect of being capeable of doing so become killers, be it by their hands or those of a hired gun.

All in all, this rather dark show dressed in witty and amusing writing and sunny California's clothing is a must watch. Hate it if you will, but I personally think those of you who do couldn't have been terribly bright to begin with ;)

Disagree with me all you like, call me immature, I don't care. I adored this episode, which was probably one of my favorite in the series.

Definitely entertaining - no one was able to keep a straight face upon seeing Angel's condition, and the fact that a 200-and-something year old (is anyone keeping track? Do we count time spent in a hell dimension? Am I the only one to have noticed that if he was sired when they say he was, he would've been 244 by the time he came to Sunnydale, not including time spent alive? Never mind, that's beside the point) could get so excited at the fact that a children's TV show was about to come on, Angel's overemotional responses to just about everything, the various suggestions as to what could have made him a puppet (such as Lorne's less that welcome implication that Angel could have some sort of "puppet cancer"). And a puppet with a sword. Damn spiffy. This was also a very creative concept - how many shows can you think of where the main character is transformed into a puppet? Excluding, of course, all things muppet-related.

Then there were the events more important to the overall plot of the season, such as Angel/Nina, Wesley/Fred (about time!), and Gunn's mental problems (by which I mean the legal info crammed into his mind), which ultimately resulted in an emotional end to the episode following.

Besides, we're due for something happy. First off, we see that Angel is believed to be, to an extent, evil, by the people he cares about (Buffy and Co.), then an episode later, Cordelia, who we've known and loved for more than half a decade, dies. Then came "Why We Fight" (which mentioned the newly developed Demon INITIATIVE, ring any bells, Buffy fans?) which, while not sad per se, was not one of the more “happy” Angel episodes. We then get an emotional boost with “Smile Time”, then along comes the death of another favorite, Fred.

All and all, an excellent, fun episode in a powerful, sad, and overall amazingly well-written second half of the final season of favorite TV series.

Once More, With Feeling

Though I absolutely love this show and episode, I have to admit it could have been done better. Not the musical aspects, definately not, but I felt it didn't fit as well into the overall plot of the series as it should have.

That being said, it does serve some purpose, other than fourty-something minutes of complete entertainment. Buffy and Spike kiss for the first time (definately important), Tara realizes that Willow used magic to solve their relationship problems, Giles realized that him being in Sunnydale only made things more difficult for his Slayer, and the Buffy/Heaven thing was brought out into the open.

I absolutely adore (and also have memorized, but let's not go there) every musical number in the episode, and would highly reccommend the soundtrack to just about anyone.

Excellent episode overall; can't help but love it.

Without a doubt, this was my favorite episode yet. Although really, even if the rest had been pointless and dry, the 'Hot Blooded' scene in Tempe's apartment would've definately made it worthwhile, thoug it was a tad on the obvious side that Adam Baldwin's character wasn't one of the 'good guys'.

Everything about this episode was great; Adam Baldwin guest starred, we got to see DB sans shirt (always a plus, at least as far as I'm concerned!), the scene in Tempe's apartment, development between Tempe & Booth, Hodgins's car (which I adore!), just... awsome...

If you only ever watch a single episode of Bones, make it this one!
