I have Emerged! Unscathed for the most part ;)

Ahh so exams are over, and I am back home once more. Actually, I finished last week but I was sooo busy moving I haven't had time to do anything. But anyways, now that I am back home and out from under the rock otherwise known as university, I have come to realize how sheltered I am from the world. The longer I am away at school, the less in-touch with the world I am hahaha! Or perhaps I am more in-touch with the issues that matter.

Anyways, apparently Miley Cyrus is the news these days. I think I've heard of her before. Hannah Montana or something, right? Disney show? Is it like the Amanda Bynes show? Or like All That? It looks like all the kiddies are into it these days. But she's going for the triple threat now, eh? Music, Movies, TV. I may have heard her song before. I don't really listen to the radio that often. The only decent ones I had access to at school were a classic rock radio station--awesome as always, and a student-run (oldest in Canada actually) radio station which does not play top 100 music. So it's a lot of up and comers, and indie bands, which I'm totally cool with. Otherwise I use CBC Radio 3, which just kicks so much a-s--and again, it's mostly up and coming acts, but there are some big Canadian names there too.

Anyways, my younger siblings think I'm really behind. Looks like these Jonas Brothers are the next Hanson or something. Ha! Oh Hanson. Three brothers, band, fit the bill for the current mod musical stylings? Check, check and check. Hanson was grungy-rocky-pop-y; and The Jonas Bros, who I heard for the first time a couple days ago, are more Maroon 5-y-JTish-super slick-over styled and coiffed to teen dreamboat perfection...I guess. I saw their music video yesterday too. It opened up with one of the bros rocking out to a tambourine. You Go Girl! But I figure what harm can they do really? I mean, give them their time in the sun, once their balls drop it's all over anyways. But I mean I've been hearing their names here and there a lot, even last year. I just had no idea why. I assume they are big news in the States--and hey, I'm a border town, so I hear these things too. But wow. They've racked up Beatles-esque fanfare with the insanity some people approach them. It's a little unnerving. Then again, I suppose I was the same with NSync and Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls. Hahaha. The same deal with those High School Musical kids. Oh god. I watched the one Zac Efron video on You Tube where he does his solo song and dance? Hilarity to the max. It was so embarrassing. I almost couldn't finish it the first time. But it was funny.

Oh, you know what is funny? Flight of the Conchords! I LOVE THEM. Look them up on You Tube or something hehehe. I find myself babbling mindlessly, which is not unlike most of my 'blogs' but I've grown tired of it for now. I will be around.

Roswell Was Pretty Darn Lame.

I'm not gonna lie, a lot of Roswell was really corney and pretty lame. I'm a fan though. Something about trash tv. But I mean, it all seemed very contrived to me, and very 'ship driven, which is frustrating. I think they completely underutilized Tess. The handling of her character, the direction the showrunners decided to go on contingent upon fan-reactions (which were largely influenced by ship support) was the worst case of character assassination I've ever seen on television--right up there with Gilmore Girls and Christopher (again, largely influenced by ship support).

Honestly, these kids are supposed to be 16-18 years old. No one is ever that into one person that much. It was terribly cliché.

I also found the utter dismissal of the alien-plot to be rather ridiculous. It made me quite upset with the characters, with their utter selfishness and dismissal of responsibility. I personally, would have loved to see this storyline progress and develop further. It was all--ohhh what's my destiny? What are we? I want to know everything! -- Oh sh-t! I take it back and don't want to help anymore. Let's all forget this ever happened. Quick--teen drama!

Also, sorry to fans of this character, but Alex was too many kinds of lame for my tastes. Dude was soooo not pretty enough for Kat Heigl.

As for season 3...well, let's just pretend that never happened. I still can't believe the writers gave Liz alien powers. Ugh. Give. Me. A. Break. I can just see them all swooning, "Oh, now Max and Liz really are the OTP!!!1!11one!!1one!!1" I think I just really have a problem in general with the Liz character. Saint Liz as she seemed to be portrayed in my eyes. The doe-eyed brunette was the prettiest, sweetest, smartest girl in school. Gosh darn! How can you not postively turn into a puddle at her feet? Ugh. Now, I know some people say, "Oh she wasn't a Joey Potter! She just had Max!...and Kyle...and Maria's cousin...and 'Dupe' Rath." Oh, and she wasn't the smartest. She wanted to get into Harvard, but all we know is she's good at science! Please. No one should harbour elite Ivy League notions unless they're the best at everything. Especially if they come from a school like the one portrayed in Roswell. Honestly, has it been that long since any of the writers went to university? Do you really expect me to believe that?

The characters were just really, really weak to me. I really didn't like any of them, except perhaps Tess, Kyle was alright to an extent. At least he acted like a real red-blooded teenaged male. I liked the family dynamic between Kyle, Tess and Valenti.

Max - One, true leader of the pack. Strong and silent type. Falls for girl he should never really have. Fights destiny to be with said girl, even when other girl in destiny is pining over him. Thankfully, by some twist of events, said destiny girl turns out to be evil allowing our brave, albeit dark and confused, hero can make his own destiny! Usually with the starry-eyed 'help' of non-destiny-I-make-my-own-destiny-girl. And by 'help' I mean the magical sex that will forever bond the two together.

Michael - Sidekick extrordinaire. Rebellious; at times showing glimpses of great leadership ability--may or may not try to usurp the throne. If so, he is thankfully, by some turn of events, he is stopped, realizes the error in his ways--or is revealed to have been under some other influence--and is ultimately redeemed, and again shown his permanent place as second banana. Also has an OTP, although will likely be much rockier than our hero's 'ship, but will prove to be a modicum more entertaining. Will likely be the typical on-again, off-again I-love-you-I-hate-you relationship. Also, we usually get more sex out of this one. He's more firey and fun.

Isabel - B-tchy older sister, control freak. Cool girl, smart, pretty, involved, potentially witty--cold. But falls for the geek! (Fanboy fantasy, anyone?) Ultimately uneventful. Fairly lame. As responsible as she is, she too refuses to step up to the plate. Sex-wise? Well, I did say this one was the frigid-b-tch. If OTP#3 goes as indicated below, OTP will never consummate their undying love--because one will die. As a result will be haunted by death of would-be lover.

Maria - Snarky, comic-relief, but pretty enough to play no. 2, but loyal enough to never get between OTP#1 (see non-threatening female friend Original Cindy: Dark Angel, Willow: Buffy, Suki: GG--these characters are either fat, married (or in a dedicated relationship before the OTP#1 is set into motion) or a lesbian). And, as is written in the stars, fills in the role for OTP#2, fittingly enough, with the hero's no.2. Not particularly significant, but is more entertaining than the heavy drama of OTP#1.

Alex - Fanboy cum writer projecting, and living vicariously through this character. Is often the surprise hero with through the use of his brains. Is often to clever for his own good, and may meet his demise--or become significantly injured and thus further endeared to the audience for his bravery inspite of his lacking physical attributes--because of his extreme intelligence, or knowledge of a "geeky" topic, often rendered useless. Likely will get with coolest, typically pretty girl, who is a frigid b-tch until he warms her heart, won't last due to tragedy or actor request to leave--usually resulting in the writing of a tragic end to this character. (See Zander and Cordelia, Buffy)

Supernatural Season 4 Confirmed! *Happy Dance* ... and Rant ;)

Yay! This is a quickie. I'm sure ya''ll have heard about the renewal by now, but I'd just like to spread the cheer! I didn't really have any doubt that Supernatural would be back--especially with the performance of the latest episode, and full-night feature. So yes, we can rest easy this May for the upfronts when the rest of the shows find out their fate. I can't wait for the show to come back already!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Aliens in America and Reaper. I know a lot of Supernatural fans out there are rooting against Reaper for taking "our" timeslot--but I think that doing that based on principle alone, and completely knocking a show because of that, without giving it a fair shot is wrong. Sure, you can not like a show; I can't change your taste in television, but I just feel like a lot of Supernatural fans are throwing Reaper into the fire based solely on allegations that it is trying to "steal" Supernatural's spot.

I'm kinda thinking that some of the motivation behind this early release of renewals is to try and ease the heat off of the Reaper hate. Now that they've announced that Supernatural is back, maybe the crazy fans will stop the boycott and give another one of their shows a shot. Reaper is the same type of genre show--but much lighter, much more farcical than Supernatural. It's a different animal completely. And no, I don't care that the main character's name is Sam. It's a freakin' name! Who cares?! I'm guessing the show writers and developpers are a lot smarter than thinking that naming their main character the same as another show's main character is going to garner them some instant fans.

I just don't like the idea that so many people--grown adults--are so vehement in their fight to kick a show off the air, and put people out of work. I'm quite disappointed with a large part of the fandom. It's just very juvenile behaviour, I find. From unbiased perspectives I hear very good things about Reaper. I hope it does well. I hope it finds success. But just because I say that does not mean I'm choosing it over Supernatural. I don't believe in dualism--where to like one thing, I have to hate another on principle. That's just ignorance. I'll like and support what I do so choose, based on my own likes and interests.

I'm finding, though, that this is true not only with Supernatural fans and other shows, but within our own fandom. There are Dean!Girls and Sam!Girls who refuse to acknowledge that the show is about two brothers. They turn to personal attacks and even go so far as to insult the actors themselves for simply portraying the character written for them. People are creating drama where there is no drama. One of the reasons why Supernatural is as fantastic as it is, is due to the fact that the cast and crew get along so well. Jensen and Jared are great friends and enjoy their role on the show. I don't understand why people feel the need to split them up and declare war. Why? Because one brother is being "shafted"? Because they think one actor gets more favours than the other? That's just silly. I'm finding I'm getting really fed up with these internal debates and moot points. "Sam gets all the storylines--Dean never gets to do anything!" -- "Oh, everyone loves Dean and Jensen--he gets all the best material! They think Jared is ugly!" Wah, wah, wah.

There is no show without either brother. Each is as integral to the show as the other. Get over yourself and stop blowing things out of proportion. You're not a 14 year old girl with raging hormones (if you are, then I completely understand your reactions, and are as such entitled to as angsty adolesence as your hormonal self desires--we all get that once in our life).

But yes. That is all I have to say really. I'm quite pleased that Supernatural has been renewed. Congrats Kripke & Co.!

AH! Awesome, AWESOME Episode of Supernatural

Before I start, I finally got my friend to watch an episode with me--and she finally admitted that she thought Dean was G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S! hahaha. I know, how could she possibly deny it? She's a silly girl, that's what. hahaha. Anyways, one of the most hilarious things I've heard, she said, "Wow, he's just beautiful. If I were the other guy in the car I would try to kiss him in the middle of the scene. Just lean in and give him the shock of his life--Take Two!!! hahaha. He wouldn't come back for 3 days!!!" So fricken hilarious.

But anyways...

Wow. Jensen just BLEW ME AWAY! He was really fantastic throughout this whole episode. Supernatural really seems to find their forte in the dream-sequences a la What is and What Should Never Be. Totally different storylines, but both fantastic episodes. My detailed review will come up later. I just had to post something now, because it was just awesome. I could really see what Kripke meant about the lighting and the contrast they were trying to create--well, at least for the sake of this episode, I could really appreciate it. The whole grainy, washed-out scary dream vision, harkening back to season 1 and then the technicolour brightness on the outside--I liked it a lot.

Also, I thought the Sam-Bela dream? HILARIOUS. Maybe it was just me. I'm hearing differing views on it, but I liked it--and I mean I hate Bela. Then awkward Sam afterwards? Are you kidding me?! hahahaha!

And the Bobby backstory broke my heart--so sad I love my Bobby. Love. Love. Love. I liked how he dreamt os his house--all neat and domestic-like, as if his wife were still alive Oh Bobby!--Oh, but one of my favourite things: "You boys better check your pockets--Not literally!" Doh! hahahaha. Awesome.

But seriously, best part? Do I even need to say it? Deanmon vs. Dean! He shattered my already broken heart into a million more pieces. I totally saw that coming after WIAWSNB. Fabulous. Beautiful. Heartbreaking. Dean!Angst!!!!! I thrive on it.

More on this subject later

I guess I can understand why some people have viewed this as being a rather poor installment of our favourite show, Supernatural. Personally, I loved it. True, the pacing at the beginning was a little slow, the introduction of the boys was rather late and the gay jokes were more than a little awkward; but I really enjoyed it. I mean it was a fun episode. I was not a huge fan of Hell House first season, but Harry and Ed were always rather hilarious. With their geeky-to-the-maxness (WWBD? What would Buffy do? I don't know! I'm not as strong as her! HA!) and their fame-seeking ways, I thoroughly enjoyed their return. Also, their team was awesome and hilarious in and of themselves. There were a ton of goofy one-liners, just about every reality show cliche you could think of, and the MOTW was super creepy. The episode really had everything I loved about Supernatural, without it actually being Supernatural. It was a joke session, the show didn't take itself too seriously, mention of The Deal and their impending Doom was kept to a minimum, the MOTW was pretty darn awesome and they swore! I love that the boys cuss. But it was surprisingly poignant too. True, I wasn't a big fan of the gay-jokiness of it all. I felt it was rather crass, but I did love and adore Corbett with all of my heart. His low keening and absolute terror was disturbing. I mean, Supernatural loves the gore, but it's never been so intimate before. With Corbett, we saw his every emotion as he realized he was about to die, it was horrible, but really a nice change of pace and perspective.

And I don't understand the problem with dropping some expository writing. Yes, I get that it's a bit of a drag, but sometimes people need some explaining. Honestly people? If Dean had not gone on about the electro-magnet to Sam--even though we assume Sam would have known about it in the first place--more than half of you would be at a loss. And I mean, some people are still at a loss as to how it worked. We see Dean leaning down to flip on the switch for the pulse, I assume--that's how they manage to bring it in the duffle without ruining all the equipment before they finished watching. It was necessary. I also find it interesting that people found Sam and Dean--Dean particularly--to be a bit of an a-shole. Well, uh, yeah. The Ghostfacer crew obviously weren't going to back down with some soft and soothing requests. The boys have dealt with them before and know how in the way they can get--endangering themselves and the boys. I didn't find their behaviour inappropriate for their characters at all. From the perspective we're given they act a bit like pricks, but no more so than an officer or firefighter when telling civilians to keep their prying eyes away from a scene or out of harm's way. Overall, I really enjoyed the episode. I've already watched a few times, and it was a lot of fun.

Now I checked out this show when it first came on air. Interesting premise, lots of hype, sounded funny--so I gave it a shot. I'm not going to lie, I liked it a bit at the beginning, it even had me laughing at some points.

However, the sparkle faded quickly. The show was formulaic, unfunny and stupid. Betty is stupid. Every episode just drilled into my head--it's okay to be ugly, you don't have to look like a model to be liked. And while those messages are good, the presentation was off, especially when at every turn you have some pop-culture media outlet spewing about how gorgeous America Ferrera is--how "not ugly" she really is. I'm over it. If you're trying to drill home the fact that someone is ugly and that's okay, then let her be UGLY! Or get a real ugly actress. The whole show is about how ugly girls can be cool too. But they're not--Betty isn't accepted at work: she is vilified, and not respected by her co-workers. Betty is awkward and clumsy--socially inept. She obviously can't read people and understand the way things work. It's a high fashion magazine, what did she think was going to happen when she came dressed in a poncho that said Gaualajara? They ugly her up by putting on her perfectly straight teeth obnoxious braces--yeah we get it, grown-up braces are "ugly" okay. They give her frumpy clothes, they make her hair puffy. You know what that image says to me? Not ugly--unkempt. Betty has no common sense, or a mirror. I get the whole, you shouldn't have to change who you are to be accepted crap, but I still believe image is part of that package. And if you looked like you hadn't combed your hair, or brushed your teeth or ironed your clothes, then I don't want to hire you. In the first episode she can't get a job, well, no wonder, she looks like she just hopped over the boarder--and she's applying to high-end jobs. What is she thinking?

Then by some miracle she is hired by Daniel's father, in an attempt to tame his son, and she puts up with his bullsh-t like an illegal alien who doesn't want to get turned into immigration. The last straw for me was when she *actually* dressed in the leather for the photoshoot--is she stupid?--and no, I don't think the word is too harsh for this situation. She couldn't possibly think they were serious, or that this job was worth this utter humiliation of squeezing her size 12 body into size 00 leather. Are you kidding me? She was a door mat. She didn't give me the impression that she was intelligent or hardworking, she left me thinking, the only way ugly girls are going to get a job in a place like that is to lie on their backs and take it. And say "thank you" afterwards.

In the end, it's not Betty who stands up for herself, it's Daniel who sees the error in his ways and asks her to stay. So now she feels obliged. She is now even more willing to accept his garbage, the verbal abuse, the long hours--and all for what? A fulfilling job that doesn't pay her enough to get a flat iron or tweezers? I am so done with this show.

I didn't know what to expect from Pushing Daisies. The premise was questionable, there was a lot of hype surrounding it--and the product never seems to live up to it's billing, from my experience--and it seemed just plain wierd.

But, after my initial dismissal of Arrested Development--and subsequent rediscovery and love-affair with the show after it was cancelled--because I dismissed the hype and critical acclaim surrounding it, I didn't want another show garnering the same accolades to go unnoticed, or at least unsampled, before I wrote it off.

Pie-Lette was hilarious, fantastical, well written and one of the most original hours of television I've watched in a long time. The acting was great particularly by lead Lee Pace, great dialogue as well. It was just really different, and I liked it. It took the old and made it new with some awesome twists--the ol' unrequited childhood love, finally able to resume it's path only to be hindered by some ridiculous circumstance--I think Pushing Daisies beats anything I've seen or heard: he can bring her back to life, thus killing someone ele if kept for longer than a minute, but he can't touch her again or she'll drop dead! Awesome.

Truly original and just a lot of fun.

This was my first episode of Dark Angel, and it brought to the table what got me, and many others I'm sure, absolutely hooked on the second season: Jensen Ackles I was never particularly interested in watching Dark Angel until I saw this episode. I only happened upon it one night on a whim. It was better than I ever expected a show like Dark Angel to be: it was dark, moody, threatening, and absolutely riveting. The story of this supersoldier getting lost in the real world--unable to control his inborn taste for blood and killing without the guidance of his unit or the discipline of an institution in the real world--was brilliant. (And to think, Doris Egan's original script was apparently darker, and got revised--what I would give to read that transcript!)

In all honesty, and this is coming from a reviewer who loves Dark Angel to this day and watched it when it originally aired while still in elementary school--outside of a few episodic exceptions--Dark Angel was pretty cheesey, contrived, and was weak all around from the acting abilities of JAlba to the script dialogue--everything is just really, really weak. The only thing that saved the show for me was Jensen Ackles--first as Ben in season 1, then as Alec, the saving grace of season 2.

Pollo Loco, however, was a fantastic departure from the norm of the show. The plot of the episode was actually interesting, the mythology of Manticore and Max's childhood and lost siblings were examined further as well. Also, Jensen Ackles' portrayal of the tortured, vulnerable, but ultimately damaged and dangerous Ben was the clincher. You just believed how damaged he was, but at the same time you knew if you got too close he would snap your neck. The tone was defined, the danger was palpable, and the emotional journey was turbluent to say the least. Pollo Loco is not a good representation of what the Dark Angel series really was--it was better than that. I can only imagine what the show could've been like if every episode had been conceived with the same thought, imagination and exploration. I honestly think if the writers had listened to the network when they said, "MORE LIKE THIS!" after seeing this episode, instead of going with a virus-love plot and a Nazi-esque cult bend on human annihilation, that Dark Angel would have lasted just a little bit longer.

Wow. Can I just start by saying WOW! And people, that was only part 1. First and foremost, that was an absolutely brilliant episode. Intense would be my word of choice. Sam and Dean commence their journey at a tiny off the road diner. Sam enters alone under Dean's watchful eye in the car. The radio gets fuzz, and before Dean realizes what happends Sam is gone and the inhabitants of the diner are dead, throats slashed. The only clue, sulphur.

- FLASH - Sam wakes up alone and finds himself in an abandoned American town, straight out of 1890 or something. He soon meets up with Andy and Ava--who seemingly has no recollection of the past five months--along with two other "special children" Jake and Lily. The town is seriously haunted, as we see one of the creepiest and, in my opinion, scariest, spirits on the show. Sam plays big man on campus as he knows his way around all these ghosts, etc. Dean is freaked out. Calls on Bobby (YAY!) and Ash - but not Ellen or Jo! - Ash has serious news, but appears to be killed after the Roadhouse appears to have been blown to high heaven. Oh snap! Ava is revealed to have turned and is playing for the other team, subsequently killing Andy, and Lily. Jake kills Ava. Sam and Jake fighting ensues, fantastic. And then - oh no! Oh no they didn't! Oh Snap, they DID! - Jake kills Sam, just before Dean can warn him. Sam appears to die in Dean's arms, and Bobby chases after that evil bastard Jake. Get him Bobby! Get him!

- End of Episode - I can't believe I have to wait for next week. Brilliantly written and acted episode. It has been all season. Jensen and Jared throw themselves into their roles and the creative staff are just on point! Episodes - no - seasons and a series like this are the result. This episode had everything I look for in entertainment: I laughed, I cried, I screamed, my interest and curiosity were piqued by certain revelations. I want more! And when a show leaves you sitting on the edge of your seat, and wanting more, you know they've done their job well.

Fantastic episode and end to the season!

I'm pretty simple. University student living in squalor as is the custom haha. The only shows I really follow consistently are House and Supernatural...and American Idol haha--anything else currently on is expendable from my schedule. I like some old shows, but for the most part just Dark Angel. I also sports and I mainly follow tennis, basketball and football (EPL). So I'll finish off with a Go Raptors Go! Manchester United--Reds for Life! and Nadal and Djokovich: future of men's tennis.
