Watch-ability

When I refer to a shows watch-ability I am almost always talking about it's re-watch-ability. How often can you re-watch a TV episode and be entertained by it. Most TV shows can be enjoyed at least twice, once new and a second time more critically. While shows like Grey's Anatomy and Lost are two of my favorite shows, the watchability is somewhat loew becuase I find it hard to watch any episode out of seasonal order and enjoy it. While this is not uniform, it is the case a magority of the time. Shows like SVU, CSI, NCIS, have high-watchability predominatly because characters are consistent and there are very few or unimportant series arcs. When it comes to a seasons watchability, Lost, Grey's, Avatar out-measure the big letter shows, but very few people have the time to sit down and watch a whole season and enjoy it. Star Trek episodes have some of the greatest watchability of any shows in TV history. Episodes can be watch over and over and enjoyed. It is the fundemental differeance between round-character driven shows and basic platform oriented shows that dictates watchability in my eyes.

How to Deal with the Strike

Television is a huge part of my life. The news of a writers strike sent a cold chill down my spine. This season is most likely over and now we won't be getting quality new episodes for 9 months. The only way to see new programing is to go with the monicar "If I havn't seen it it's new to me." I have taken up watching repeats of shows I've never watcher. SVU, NCIS, and Criminal Minds are timeless that are easy to get sucked into. As far as sitcoms go, Scrubs, Fraiser, and Newsradio are fantastic. The best way to deal with this strike is to take advantage of the plethara of TV that is already out there that you havn't seen. Also, I advise everyone who hasn't already done so, to watch Heroes and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Villians

A good villian is a hard thing to construct. A single character who needs to be able to hold their own against a group of heroes. On television right now there are very few really good villians. A villian needs to be powerful, menicing, and merciluss. Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ben Linus from Lost, Sylar from Heroes, T-Bag from Prison Break, and Lex Luthor from Smallville are the best villians on TV right now.

Great Hero

Many TV shows today have main characters with heroistic characteristics. My favorite shows of past and present deal with great heroes. The personality traits of truly great heroes are not measured absolutes. There is no formula for heroism, there is a formula for great TV characters however. Depth, passion, and unique characteristics are key in both heroes and TV characters.

I remember watching an episode of this show on a Friday night, having no idea what it was. I was completly blown away. The acting was amazing, the plot was clever and the design/concept was original. It is a unique universe that is a more realistic take on what is in store for the future of humanidy. Early on there were enough questions to keep the audience guessing and the characters are all round and appealing. I love how well each of them work together. It ended before its time and it should have been given more of a chance.

This may be my favorite episode of the Simpsons. It is smart and makes you think, it is funny and makes you laugh, and it is just well put together. Homer questioning his soul-mate is amazing. It is really well made. The art-work is original and is some of the best I have ever seen in American animation. When Homer is going on his vision quest is a totally original scene to the simpsons universe. Also, this episode focuses almost totally on Homer with little to no other B-story. I love it and can watch it over and over again.

Bart Sells His Soul
Avg Score: 9.02    Total Ratings: 165    Total Reviews: 18
This is why the Simpsons is an all-time classic and maybe the best show of all time. A 10-year-old sells his soul and goes through hell to get it back. Sounds more like a horror movie then a comedy show. You can't watch this episode without feeling some kind of emotion and you can't watch this show without laughing out loud. It takes a very smart look at religion without making fun of it and could very well be a perfect episode. I love watching an episode where I can laugh, think, and be moved and this is the absolute pinnacle of great work which encompasses all of that.

This is a fantastic episode that does nothing to further the plot of the series but provides much needed insight into the world in which our characters live. This is a personal favorite of mine for two reasons, 1) It involves Zuko's backstory and he is by far my favorite character in the series and 2) This series is so great becuase it takes time to do an episode like this that focuses away from the main characters in order to better explain the series as a whole. Through the flashbacks we learn how the Fire Nation began the war and a great deal about the past Avatar. Amazing watchability, it can be watch over and over.

This is my favorite kind of episode. We see what one potential future holds for our heroes. Five years into the future we get a glimps at what has transpired. You need to watch this episode two or three times to fully appreciate all the little details that are sprinkled in. The Sylar thing is also a great reveal. I really love when an established series does an episode where we see a completly different take on it's characters through the use of either time or dimensional travel. Another great thing about this episode is that it can be watched and enjoyed out of order by both fair weather and die-hard Heroes fans.

I'm an Avid fan of television. I enjoy original ideas, but also have appreciation for things done right. TV is more then an escape, it is an art form. When it's done right it is better then the finest poetry, when it's done wrong it is nails on a chalkboard.
