BTW, the first 10 minutes of Dark Night Batman Returns was great

I forgot to post about this earlier but for those that were not aware, Imax theatres playing I Am Legend also had packaged with it a special 10 minute sneak peak of the next Batman movie, specially formatted, apparently, for an Imax screen (a couple shots showed that this was possibly true).

All i got to say was it was sweet, not since the uncensored Batman Beyond Joker Returns movie has anyone shown so wellthe Joker as the maniacal and intelligent (but of course quite mad) villain that he truly is. Probably is tool late to go check it out now on the big Imax screen but the actual movie will be here before you know it.

''Maybe This Was All A Misunderstanding?''

It isn't really hard to guess as this point what the latest several editorial blog posts (and pretty much everyone else's) are about, or for that matter everywhere else people can post something as well.

In what I have decided to dub the great Kane & Lynch fiasco of 2007, we have a bit of a controversy on our hands. Now, one thing I'm reading in almost all of the many posts about it is the key word, "rumor." Now at this point the evidence is pretty damning, what with the video review being pulled, and Jeff apparently, at least for whatever reason, has signed his walking papers.

What I want to say then is not necessarily something I personally believe, but is more of an attempt at devil's advocate (since almost no one else is saying it and instead stoking the flames). Could this all possibly be a very poorly timed set of decisions, leading to a misunderstanding? Could Jeff have maybe chosen to just leave, or gotten let go for some other reason?

I only pose the question because we have all too often gotten upset over something only to get the full story later. Unfortunately we may never hear the full story, but at this point, I'veseen many people, even volunteer support members, posting blogs riddled with denouements and even swears directed at Gamespot. As much as this may actually be an appropriate response if this has all happened as the initial reports ordained, I'm wondering how much we may be jumping the gun on our judgments of all parties involved.

Jeff is no stranger to review controversy either, if anything you'd think some of the other games he's shunned in the past would land him in more hot water than an Eidos game.

In short, for those who so far have completely misread the purpose of this post, the theme is "withholding judgement", at least until a suitable time when such judgement can be fairly passed. If at that point in time the judgement is a rage-gasm in the form of anangry mob with pitchforks and torches though, then so be it.

With all this jumble of hesitant thinking I leave you with a departing thought: maybe Kane and Lynch, even with its score not being the most terrible ever, but rather due to its enduring negative stigmata, willbe the new "Big Rigs" game that all new GS members must play....an ironic twist appropriate of such a trial by fire don't you think?

Uno update: I'm ranked 170th!!!

Just a small Uno update, i'm now ranked 170th place in the world on the trueskill rankings. The W-L rank is what shows when you join ranked games, but i don't know if i want to play the roughly 8000 games to climb that ladder (i actually ran into No.1 yesterday in a game lobby.....and then quickly ran away ), and i think the Trueskill rank is another pretty good representation instead of just a massive amount of games played.

Anyway here's a picture for your enjoyment, with someone else also on there to show the comparative difference (he's the only person on my friends list that has played Uno).

I just beat the No. 9 ranked Uno player in the world!!!

Ok well, the guy had roughly 2000 wins and 6000 losses, so he's probably lost quite a bit and is more to do with the sheer amount he has played, but I really schooled him/her, so it was something of a rush to clean sweep him in a ranked match! Huzah!

The person I beat has the XBL The Great 55 for those that want to check the leaderboard.

Naruto
Gotta See! Gotta Know! Kakashi-sensei's True Face!
Avg Score: 9.06    Total Ratings: 221    Total Reviews: 67
As soon as the episode started it it definetly felt like a filler episode, it almost felt a little outside of the plot line like it was a special or something due to one of the characters wearing their older clothes (luckily they made one reference to Kakashi "just getting out of the hospital" so they kept it at least lightly grounded).

Even still, this was a really fun filler episode, because while it was necesarily "relevant" character development, i'm sure at this point alot of people would ask "i wonder if anyone is ever going to care or wonder about Kakashi's face, or if it's just another thing about this world that the viewer should just accept and move on about."

Luckily they treat the viewer to not only an interesting episode subject, but a pretty funny way of handling it, at least most of it.

While some of the 2nd half started to drag a little bit, alot of the earlier stuff with the constantly repeating animation scenes, or Kakashi being hilariously pummeled at the ramen shop in fantasy like successful tricks was simply funny to watch. Or Kakashi, in a very uncharacteristicly high pitched voice screaming about how he had to get tickets to his latest skin flick/book after he did that very funny window gawking at the naughty book store (at least i assume it was a nughty book store, and was just censored for the american version).

In the end the it would have been even better without the Hidden Smoke ninjas, as they kind of ruined an otherwise perfect filler episode, but even still, this really stuck out for me. Oh and it was also fun to get Saske actually enthusiastic about something, with even him being incredibly "into it."

Monk
Mr. Monk Is Up All Night
Avg Score: 9.49    Total Ratings: 151    Total Reviews: 8
This episode feels like it hearkens back to the earlier episodes of the series, evoking a more personable tone and doing something a little special, which is a good change from the usual stuff this season.

This season was best characterised by the Snoop Dog episode, a very uneeded guest star with a goofy episode catered to his persona, and often times yielding annoying results.

The show has always been a little goofy, but in the earlier seasons there was a lot of good character development and a little bit more sadness from thew monk character, now his pain has been alot more of a charicature.

This episode took a small detour from that, a trend i hope does not change in later episodes.

They did something a little different with the crime this time, and added a further mystery sublot. Not only that, but it really did feel like Monk was losing his mind, and for this time for no apparent reason. Aside from the usual solve the crime approach this time he was just trying to figure out what was keeping him up while he took an insomniac tour of San Francisco, best characterised by the conman he met at the bar (the one recognizeable guest star, properly subdued and used, and only present in a couple scenes, which was very apt) that "this place is different at night".

The payoff was of course at the end when everything was solved and he both found and figured out the mystery behind the woman he was chasing and the the sun began to rise.

All in all i feel like they either must have gotten some cool guest writer to give his own special take with this episode, or just made it a point to go somewhere fresh in this episode, and i think it was a job well done.

I thought they tried a little too hard making Monk constantly miss the woman, making it seem almost like she was some active agent of fate or one of his many halucinations since it seemed so easy to keep missing her, but that didnt really hurt the episode by that much at all.

Saturday Night Live
Hugh Laurie/Beck
Avg Score: 8.31    Total Ratings: 80    Total Reviews: 18
AS i said in the summary this is not a very frequent thing for SNL these days to have the guest host and musical guest do so well, but in this case when they do it really does make it a special standout episode.

Hugh Laurie as usual is excellent and his brand of comedy fit well and differently in the sketches. The writing itself, as usual, was a bit bland but you can tell at least having Hugh Laurie perhaps made them be able to write some interesting stuff for him specifically, and with a little bit of luck (as after all thed cutting you're still not going to have an episode "chock full" of funny sketches).

That simply made it an ok show though, but Hugh Lauries odd single, which was more interesting than funny, but in the end turned out to be rather cool. Coupled this with Becks brilliant music performance though, and thats what made it good.

granted, i dont often pay much mind to the SNL musical acts these days. They still net in some cool artists but they really got to do something that is pretty interesting or perform their face off, and Beck did that, with a truly unique "dinner table percussion" scene that really grabbed me.

So yes, "lucky" writing, Hugh Laurie and Beck really made this as fine episode.....for once.

The Boondocks
Avg Score: 9.06    Total Ratings: 2941    Total Reviews: 273
I only saw ads for this show about a month before it came, and although i was not an avid reader of the boondocks since i was in school and it was first being printed, i was very excited, especially how the ad depicted the show's "look".

The humor of course is not for everyone, but it should be. I am not an extreme ended politically minded person, and enjoy a look both ways approach. Although it's always with a leftist twang (which i more often tend to lean toward anyhow), Magruder still gives a very balanced view on black rights, amongst other things, not always placing sole blame on the familiar demons.

The animation also was outstanding. Although familiar looking from anime's (looking alot like, but apparently not yet done by Madhouse), it was able to retain a more calm feel, thusly giving it a level of quality that allowed it to replicate the comic book while giving it its own flavor and not a specifically japanese anime one.

All in all i really appreciate this show, even though it was a little hit and miss with the episodes, i honestly am still hooked and hope Adult Swim retains this, as it's one of its crown shows in my opinion.

The Cane
Avg Score: 9.59    Total Ratings: 46    Total Reviews: 1
This episode was a classic in my book, if not one of my favorites for this show. Phil Hartman is at his best and most insane, first with his cane-centric words of wisdom, followed by the very ugly cane-withdrawl and cane-paranoa.

Of course all this insanity boils down to the "office retreat" in Jimmys office where there's enough bad blood to "run a hoodoo factory".

Even though there's alot of other very funny sideplots going on throughout this episode with the other characters, the Cane is really what made this episode for me, and the cane is where i will end it.
