    ABOUT ME

    my story:
SWM, born 1953, nonsmoker, nondrinker, lives near Chicago. I was a computer programmer for 25 years. Currently, I spend almost all my time watching TV. Unfortunately, there is not enough time to watch everything I record, but I keep recording more. I usually take a break to go out for dinner, usually fast food. And once a year I take a bigger break to take a trip. When I go to see a city, I generally don’t go to museums or anything else most tourists do. I literally see the city, driving up and down the main streets. I map it all out on MS Streets & Trips first. I’ve only done this since 2002 when I lost my job. Prior to that, I spread out most of my vacation by taking one day per week in the fall to try to keep up with the new TV season. I keep track of my tapes using MS Access. My backlog has been steadily increasing so it looks like I will never catch up. I also do some bike riding in the summer but it seems like I do less and less each year. I never spent much time on tv.com until Nov 2006 when I signed up for broadband. Since I’m connected all the time I try to multitask and watch TV at the same time.

    • Fall 2008 TV Schedule

--HERE-- is my grid.I will also be watching "The Shield" and, assuming it's on, the syndicated version of "Stargate: Atlantis". Where it says "Watch" it means on TiVo, so it will still be recorded, but it means I intend to watch it within the week. If it says "Record" it means I don't expect to watch it until summer and it means I am at least a year behind on that show.I didn't make much progress on my backlog this summer. I still have 300 hours from the 2006 TV season and 450 hours from the 2007 season (despite the strike). Read more »

    • Happy Birthday

Today is my birthday and I should be very happy because I learned this week that Sonic is coming to my area. The first one opened 2 days ago but it's 15 miles away (or 17 if I take the tollway, which is faster but costs more money). So I drove there at 2 pm to get a coconut shake and the line was too long. The guy guiding the traffic said I should come at 10 am, but I don't usually want a shake that early. He said it will probably take 2 weeks for the crowds to die down. While I was in that area, I brought my bike to ride on parts of a bike path I hadn't been on before. I discovered they built a bridge across the street where I planned to join the path. However, there was only access to the path from one side of the street and I was on the wrong side. So, I had to cross... Read more »
