Father Knows Best...

Welcome to today's blog, which I will subtitle PM Me.

Firstly, ladies and girls....I have a question. Please PM with you answers.

I've asked a few of you this, and I've gotten great responses, but now I've decided to open up the question. So...

Please tell me about your relationship with your father. I am specifically looking for that period of time between the ages of 10 and 20. How did you see him then? What was he like? How did you feel about your father?

I'm working on a piece that is going to center around a girl's relationship with her father....and I've never been a girl. So...any help is appreciated. And for those who have already helped: THANK YOU!

Again, please PM your answers. I think some of them may personal and I don't want you feeling afraid to say what you really feel by thinking it will be shared with the world.

The second thing that you can PM about... If you're one of my regulars and you'd like to hear the song that Jerry and I wrote, please PM me with a regular email address and I'll send you the current mp3. For many reasons I can't post it here, nor will I post the lyrics here. But if you are interested in listening to it...I can help you out with that. So just pm me with a regular email and I'll send it out to you.

I've been a little odd in the blog department of late. This is mostly due to work commitments. I appreciate your patience and vow that final thoughts will return next week. I'm just not consistent (but you knew that.)

You're the inspiration.

I had the opportunity to watch a concert the other day. I found it inspiring. This begat a very important question: Who do I inspire?

I have the honor of being in a profession where I am often part of a team that creates magic (real and imagined) to audiences of all sizes I touch hundreds of lives and while the thought may be vanity incarnate...it is also silly to think that it's not true. I inspire people.

Driving home from the event another question came to me: Who do you inspire?

I realized that outside of my professional life I touch lives. The choices I make in any sort of public setting are seen by other people. My character is always on display. What do people think about me when they see me? What do people I don't know think? What lives am I touching that I don't know about? What about the ones I do?

And then... I think of this blog and who reads it...and I think back to buckeye...or even last summer when I had that little issue.

We are all as human beings in the eye of other human beings in many ways and on many fronts. The choices we make and the things we do touch lives we know about....and lives we don't. We have power that we can't imagine in the lives of people we'll never meet...How do we wield that power? Is it for good?

I guess this is all rather strange...but I'd love for you to think about your life...and think about who you inspire. Think about who you touch....but even deeper...think about the message you send to those around you, those who see you...those you know and those you don't.

I hope you like what you see...and if not, I hope you can find a way to change it for the better.

No Comparison

Hey...this is a real short one today...I just needed to get a new one up before the weekend.

You did great with the favorite songs from musicals and I appreciate it all, Thanks!!!!!

Now...on to today's bloggie.

I heard someone complain yesterday about their 8 hour work day. I had to laugh. My work days tend to be 16-20 hours. The longest single day was 29 hours. Just made me giggle I guess. Sure, I don't work that five days in a row every week...but there are days/weeks.

Anyway... I'm not complaining now...just saying.

and...now I'm off to work. (skipping the final thought because of time-gotta get in a full 16-20 hrs.

If It's Broke, Don't Fix It. (Writing Wednesday)

No... I hadn't forgot to do these. I just... haven't been productive of late. I'm back in a period of ambition.

My problem has been that I've been devoting a lot of time to a project that is just a clunker. It's got some good ideas in it, but the framing is wrong, the st*y*le is wrong...and it's just wrong. But I've put a lot of time in on it and have lots of different versions of basically the same thing...and it just doesn't work. I'm not kidding myself. It wouldn't sell. I haven't had the guts to abandon it. I've been wracked with the thought that "maybe this time it will work..."

I still haven't given up, but part of what I have to learn is when something is a lost cause move on.

Luckily for me I'm also one to have a lot of irons in the fire. I'm already starting a new project.

And... on top of that I have good news.

Remember a few weeks back I was working on a song? Well, I had turned it in to a local contest. I say local because it's in the area, but they receive international submissions. I just found out that they have selected the song my friend and I wrote to be presented as part of their festival. It'll be one of about fifteen or twenty songs that will have a performance in front of an audience. This is great news. I cannot tell you how excited I am. It's phenomenal for me!

So... yeah, that has energized me. I've been working (half heartedly) on two other songs. One I think is an ambitious project for someone at my level...and the other just hasn't formulated past a basic idea stage.

With that said... I'm up for more work on them. But I want your advice. Think of the musicals you've seen. What has been your favorite song in a musical (movie or onstage.) Let me know what they are...please... and then I'm going to listen and think about them (if I can get my hands on them.)

So...there's your task.

I'll keep you posted on how the song progresses. The Festival is in November, so I've got plenty of time to kvetch about it.

Thanks!

THE FINAL THOUGHT

There's so much comedy on television,

does that mean we're going to have comedy

erupting on the streets?

I'm new to this series, mostly new anyway, and with each passing episode I feel more and more sad that it has only two seasons. This episode was truly amazing. everything made sense and every character had a substantial enough story to hold my attention. The theme carrying through each story is what really made it wonderful, what made it truly stand out. I haven't noticed it being done that well in any other episode so far.

All in all in that was what I had to say. It was just remarkable that everything fit and everyone had something to do.

Great episode.

I love the chase. I enjoy being presented with the situation and the characters and then set to flail about as the team finds the clues that will pick one of the suspects and make them a criminal. This is what we get just about every week with this show, and I don't get tired of it.

This episode gave us plenty of herrings, red and otherwise, as we delved deeply into this case.

I thought it was a nice touch having the team argue their different theories passionately. Often they have the leadership of Gibbs to direct them...but Gibbs, stuck in guilt was a little less than his typical hero.

Also in the mix a germophobe investigator who Tony might have an eye on. (How does Ziva feel about this?...giggle giggle.)

The end of the episode (always a nice touch) was poignant and sweet. Good stuff!

Many of the women in Gibbs live converge over a case. This has the effect of strengthening and changing his relationships with all three. The revelations discussed throughout (specifically between Ducky and Mann) deepen our admiration and understanding for the man we call Boss.

On top of the emotions and character development we get an interesting case with the requisite ammount of twists. Along with all that we get a little McGee-Abby-Guest Star triangle which increases the humor of the episode. Let's not forget the still sparkling chemistry between Ziva and DiNozzo still finding it's new footing after the events of the last few episodes...but finding it's way pretty quickly with the zing we love.

All in all this was a great episode. Comedy and drama together with a great mystery.

Against my better judgement I'm slowly becoming interested in this show. It intrigued me at first and I'm very fond of the cast. So it earned a look. It earned a second look and I'll be coming back for a third.

The show was humorous at a good rate. Not hilarious as Boston Legal, another favorite of mine, but it is funny. It has a different kind of wit that I admire.

I will admit to it's reliance on sex and sexuality, but it is an adult show and airs at an appropriate time for it's subject matter. It is not overly vulgar or untoward.

I respect this episode and particularly Michael Vartan's character of James for his higher morals as he embarks on the single life once more. These morals are not neccessarily witnessed in the other three lead characters.

This show has a good level of drama and the subplots continue to build at an adequate pace. I enjoyed this episode and it's definitely done it's job of keeping me interest in the show.

I was in the audience during the filming of this episode. It was my first time watching an episode of this show...and I was not impressed. The performers may all be funny people on their own, but teir characters are little more than cardboard cut outs of characters in other sitcoms. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure I've seen this episode on all the other male bashing sitcoms that have ever exhisted like Home Improvement or According to Jim. The plot of the show was silly. People only act like that in television shows and there are shows out there where people acted just like that and possibly better.

Honestly, I was shocked when I found tickets for this show available. I thought it had been cancelled. In my head I wish it had been. Then I might have had the opportunity to see a better show.

About Me

FrakkingFrakker
Feel free to call me Ralph. It's not my name, but I answer to it. I'm a 30 year old TV and Movie lover from the East Coast of the United States. I like good stories and great characters. I tend to not like comedies. I hate overly frothy and patently romantic shows. Current top of the line favories include Lost and Battlestar Galactica. I am opposed to way the Sci-Fi is handling the final season of BSG. Network executives are evil.
