Writers strike a good thing for tv fans?

I don't do blogs, mostly because I can never think of anything interesting to say!! However, today I had a thought to myself and I'm sure a lot of folks have thought it too:

"If the writers strike hadn't happened would I have bothered watching shows that I had not noticed before?"

Take for instance, Thursday nights, usually a peach for my favourite shows, and none of them are on, I flick through the sky box and land on Grey's Anatomy. Now I have seen clips for this show and I see how cute "McDreamy" is and all but it just doesn't appeal to me, but I stick with it because there is nothing better on. 60 mins later and I am logging onto amazon to update my rentals list, Grey's anatomy season 1 and 2 here we come! I'll admit, it's now one of my many favourites!!

So what do you guys think? Obviously it was not good for the people that were unemployed during the strike but could it perhaps have been a good thing for tv fans?

This could be a massive debate but what I'm looking for are people like me that used it as an opportunity to find new shows! So anyone who found a show that they had dismissed when it first aired then secretly fell in love with during the strike, get in touch, maybe we could find even more gems!!

This is a show about a man who returns to his home town after leaving without a proper goodbye. He was meant to be going away for a short while but decided to stay away for 10 long years until he is forced back home to give a lecture about his new book (which he based on his old friends that still inhabit the town). This has some consequences!!

Starring a few familiar faces and a few fresh ones this show has a great mix of new and old talent that seem to mesh well together. You can actually feel the old (but not forgotten) tension that comes with high school reunions, which is what the storyline resembles. With the added pressure on the date/spouse that you happen to bring along!

I's say this show has a lot of potential to run for a decent number of seasons but unfortunately the studio don't seem to have much faith in it (ie. giving it only 6 eps for season 1 and leaving a HUGE gap before airing season 2). Lets just hope that the fan base is big enough to keep it going for a little longer. I personally will be tuning in!

This show was created by Don Bellisario (of J.A.G.) but recent comments on pages such as tv.com have stated that he has in fact left the show in someone elses capable hands as he has had reported fallings out with certain cast and crew members. I don't see this as being a great problemo as the script will still be well written and the cast are still as inspired so I am actually looking forward to seeing what they can do without him! The show itself is very addictive, from the wit throughout serious parts of the episodes just to lighten the mood and carry the episode from one junction to the next to the stunning good looks of the cast, I can't peel my eyes away!

I suggest if anyone likes JAG or CSI etc to give it a shot, you won't regret it!

This show, although cheesy at some parts (I'll let you watch it and find them for yourself!) is so gripping from start to finish I don't know why it isn't one of the top 10 shows every week. I'll admit, it's my favourite genre and I've always been a sucker for Jensen Ackles but the storylines are gripping, the script is well written, the acting is 1st class and the actors are gorgeous! All round well worth watching, even if it is just for a quick scare when the monsters come out!
