Sweeney Todd
Last night I went to the movies. I watched Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd". Yes I know I took my time but I always go the last two weeks before a movie is removed from the theatres because … well isn't it obvious? A misanthrope like me always tries to interact with people as little as possible. So, the theatre was nearly empty. Last show of the night, a slow and dreary Sunday.
The movie is a marvel!!! It is a visual orgy of beauty; and the core of Burton's soul is embedded on the film. It is most probably the most beautiful film I have ever seen. The music and script, which is based on the original Broadway play, (John Logan screenplay and Stephen Sondheim musical) is at times brilliant and at times a little corky; and this is just about the only negative thing I can say about this masterpiece. The film is more like an operetta than a musical. I loved evil Johnny!!! He can offer so much as a villain, I really hope to see him in more films like this. The make up and clothes are taken right out of my darkest dreams. Johnny and Helena , who have previously worked together in Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride" look like they jumped right out from their "Corpse Bride" animated characters and took human form. They were both an absolute pleasure to watch. I left the theatre with a smile on my face and a "blue" in my soul. Mr Burton did it again. He has bewitched me. Mr Tim, I love you I love you I love you!!!
And for those who frown on the idea of watching a musical …. Think again. I'll tell you only this: "Nightmare before Christmas", "Corpse Bride", "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". All musicals! All remarkable!
Plus, don't forget one of the best movies of all times "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" ![]()
So, get over your sad self and go watch one of the most BEAUTIFUL pictures ever made. The Photography is ridiculously good. The sets are out of this world, the camera work is ingenious the editing is excellent and the direction of this film is done by a deity! I am going to watch it over and over and over again . . .
My Movie Uppdate for the last 2 weeks
The latest Cohen movie, "No Country For Old Men", was very good!!!
I'm looking forward to "Sweeney Todd". It unfortunately comes bloody very super late in Sweden (15th of Feb.)
I just finished watching "30 days of Night". Not bad. I've seen worse.
Last week I watched the following 2007 movies.
"Mr Magoriums Wonder Emporium", entertaining for us children at heart but too damn short. (I wish I lived in that store)
Then I watched "Shoot Em Up". Dude, what can I say? I was NOT prepared for this. Let's just say if you want to see people shooting people, then this is the ultimate action movie. - Same as if you really want to see martial arts and shooting action combo, then you must watch "Moonchild" (with Gackto sama) -
Then I saw "When A Man Falls". It was, depressing with not real substance. It was American depressing, you know, when you couldn't care less….
I also saw "Fur" with my sweet sweet sweet gorgeous Nicole Kidman. Ah! So beautiful!!! Eh, ehm. Oh, and the movie was really good too
(Jag δlskar henne!) Oh, oh oh, I also saw "The Invasion" with Nicole but it was so-so… Eh… it was ok…
Now I still have 3 more movies waiting with Nicole; "Margot at the Wedding", "The Golden Compass" and "Australia".
Oh yeah I also saw "I am Legend" last month. It started magnificent and in the middle it kinda phu**ed up, and in the end it really sucked.
Shame cause the brother was really good!!!
Now I've been saving the following movies the last 3 weeks but I won't wait no more. It is time for:
"Rescue Dawn", "Sleuth", "Eastern Promises" and last but NOT least "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" I think I'll watch this on Saturday with some seriously good American Red Ale ( maybe a Thomas Hardy's Ale) or a Swedish Smoked Porter, accompanied with some first class French Chevre. Hmmm and maybe some good red wine on the side (most preferably Australian).
Damn I can't wait till Saturday. Or maybe Friday? ![]()
The Riches!
I fell in love with the show.
Now, I dread the thought of it being cancelled. Not because it looks like it is going to be cancelled, but because the cretin networks always disappoint and shock me when they all of a sudden decide that a show "won't go on". I was thinking to stop watching TV altogether after a few cancellations because there was nothing more to see at some point. The latest disaster was the cancellation of The 4400; a show with a cult status and a huge fun base!!! It is still unthinkable. So, that is why I hate the fact that The Riches is so perfect. It is TOO good to last in an era of reality TV and unimportant nobodies becoming celebrities. Because there is a big percentage of people who prefer to watch someone vomiting on TV, or a stupid screaming baby pooping on TV, than watching real actors with immense talent, doing spectacular work on screen, with beautiful dialogues and impeccable humour. This is The Riches! A gem that I am afraid is not going to last very long because the pimp networks make more money out of reality TV prostitution.

I watched the first season (which was only 3 episodes) on TV ```4``` years ago!!!!! And I have been waiting ever since. I lost all hope and stopped searching when a week ago I found out that it has been renewed and airing since JANUARY!!!! So I pulled my strings and got me self hooked on satellite TV ;) I just LOVE this show. I love the fact that there is no technology, no computers, no DNA, not even fingerprints to help the detective. Do not get me wrong, I LOVE technology. But It's fun to see how mysteries could be solved without it. It is more challenging this way ;)
Yannick Bisson who plays the main character is an astounding actor. And his freakish resemblance to Peter O'Toole is BIG plus!!! Sometimes I think it is a young Peter I watch on TV and not Yannick. Creepy. :D
I am so happy it is renewed and as I see here on tv.com it seem to be renewed for a 3rd season as well. Oh good times :D :D
