It's Canada Day!

I just wanted to say Happy Canada Day to all the fellow Canadians here!

Also: I have finished college for the semester (possibly for the year) so I am now working full time. This means I won't be able to be on tv.com as often as I would like anymore. But I'll still be around, checking the forums and stuff...

Possession of the Worst Kind

What is it? My computer. I can think of no other explaination for it's behaviour recently, it simply must be possessed.

The other day I was on msn instant messanger with a friend, and somehow, everything I typed got sent as an e-mail instead. As first I thought it was just msn acting up again, anyone who uses it frequently will be familiar with it logging people out randomly in the middle of conversations, etc.

But it didn't stop there. My computer has started bringing up websites I haven't asked for, switching between windows or scrolling up/down a page when my hand isn't even on the mouse. When I do want a website, I sometimes have to click on the link in my favourites once of twice before it starts loading.

Several times my computer has refused to turn off. I shut it down maybe five times, and end up having to use the switch at the back of the CPU in order to get it to shut off.

Creepy.

SN Magazine No Show

Alright, so the first Supernatural magazine issue was published back in November, and it's now February. I guess there has to be a reason why I haven't got it yet!

I suscribed to the magazine back in October, in time (so I thought) for it to be published in November. When November came and went, and still no magazine had shown up, I got my mom to e-mail them (because it was ordered with her credit card). They said that my order didn't get processed in time for the first issue, but that I would get the second one onward. That was fine.

Now the second issue was published, and again, it never showed. This time, my mom phoned them. The person on the phone said that the records showed I had indeed been sent a copy! They checked to make sure the address was ok, and then said that another copy would be sent right away! They said it should be here by February 15th at the latest.

EDIT: I got my magazine! It finally came in the mail today, the 21st. Thank goodness! I haven't read it through yet, but so far it's a great magazine!

Conflict of Interest

What a delema. On January 31st, how am I to choose between the new Supernatural episode, and the new season of Lost? Normally, it wouldn't be so much of a contest, Supernatural would win hands down, but that final episode of Lost last season... On one hand, they kind of spoiled it, because now we know that they get off the island. On the other, though, now I'm curious as to why they have to go back!

Been a While, Hasn't it?

I thought it was really time I did another one of these, it's been forever! I guess half of you forgot about me, and the other half thought I had dissapeared. I'm still around, I still visit the site every day, check out the Supernatural and the Doctor Who forums. I just don't post as much as I used to.

I've been busy, work and college, the usual. It's hard to do both, expecially when my college is at home and self motivated. It requires an awful lot of self motivation. Who wants to be typing up essays when you can be on tv.com?

7.5 Good
The Adventures of Sinbad
Avg Score: 7.56    Total Ratings: 199    Total Reviews: 8
I definitly have conlficting opinions about this show. On one hand, the story plots are really good, and the actors do a fine job. On the other, the special effects are second rate, the script writting comes off as false (no matter what the actors do), and the whole show gives off an air of a being a bad highschool play. Please, bear with me.
The best character is Rongar, perhaps becuase he doesn't say anything. This only enforces my opinion that it is not the actors themselves that come across as over the top and false, but rather the writing. I suppose there is only so much an actor can do with such grand, 'good will trumph over evil' statements in everyday conversation. There's only so much steriotypical evil laughter Rumina (and guest stars, too) can do and still be taken seriously as an evil character. You stop listening to what she's saying and start trying to count how many times she goes "mwahaha" in the course of an episode.
Which brings me to the special effects. I know it was 1996-1998, I understand how far technology has come since that time, but I think the monsters would be so much scarier if they wern't obviously close ups of your everyday lizards and snakes with a far off shot of Sinbad et all trying desperatly to look as though they're actually fighting something. Not to mention the bad computer graphics. Of course I'm tlaking about when the characters have the obvious "cut around" marks, and the digital creatures don't even have the same lighting as the live stuff (see season 1 episode 22 "The Vengeance Of Rumina" re: floating plastic skeletons). And yet, this is one aspect of the show that is so loveable. Like the shaky sets of the early Doctor Who seasons. I suppose I should say something possitive, so it doesn't sound like I completly hate the show, because I don't. I watched it when it first came out, and now I'm rewatching it, now that I found it again. The very reason I started watching is the very reason I'm rewatching: the storylines. It's really a highly entertaining, adventerous show. Any problems I think are not in the idea, but the execution. I chose "Needs fine-tuning" as the classification of this show, becuase I beleive it could be so much better, but I could just have easily called it my "Guilty pleasure".

It is my humble opinion that this show should have ended with the season finale of season 4. It would have wrapped everything up really nicely. When Zo'or died, when those regeneration pods closed on Da'an and the other Taelons and the Jaridians, and then Liam made his little speach, that is where it should have ended. We wouldn't need to know what happens next, we would have been content with the optomistic knowledge that something good comes out of it all. But no. Someone had the brilliant idea to invent a new breed of alien to stretch the show on just a little longer. I have to give them credit for trying, but it failed so spectacularly. Everything I loved about this show dissapeared after season 4. Mainly Da'an, and the Taelons, and the main storyline that had gone on since season 1, the very premise of the show itself. Season 5 was less like starting a new chapter in the storyline and more like disregarding all but a few elements of the previous storyling and starting a new one. By the time you've faithfully followed a show for four seasons, that's the last thing you want to see.

What a season finale! There is no way I can cover everything in one review, so I'll focus on the main elements that really overwhelmed me.
Firstly, I am so glad the whole situation with Grey was resolved. On one hand, I love how they didn't make it some sappy reunion scene, I think that would have been way to predictable and easy. On the other, what did happen was devastating for the character of Captain Jack. Which brings me to the next topic I want to explore, the fact that Captain Jack as burried in the ground from 27AD until the 19th century. That's basically 1900 years, which is a shockingly long amount of time. Fictional or not, it boggles the mind. And while he was there, he was dieing, over and over and over again, for 1900 years. It's a miracle he wasn't stark raving mad when they dug him up! Which is another thing that keeps bothering me, as insignificant as it is. His clothes would have rotted away in that time, no question. Yet he still has his military coat, looking none the worse for wear after 1900 years in the ground. Finally, of course, I can't forget to mention the fate of Owen and Tosh. What an emoional scene! I never saw that coming, and after it happened, I was still waiting for them to revive or something, to reveal that they wern't dead after all! But it didn't happen. Well, we know for sure Tosh is dead, but I suppose there's a chance for Owen, we never saw his body after all. Still, I really liked Tosh as a character. If they decide to bring in someone new next season, it's going to be a hard act to follow!

Long-Distance Call

The perfect Supernatural episode. Creative storyline, alternate humorous, scary, and touching moments. This episode had that "horror-movie-of-the-week" feeling that I loved about season one and two, and I hope they get back to that more with next season. It's the reason I started watching the show! That said, they still got the whole Dean's deal storyline into the episode as well, which I can't wait for them to resolve! I loved the moment near the end where Dean confessed to Sam that he's scared. The fact that he was willing to believe that is was really their dad and that he happened to have a way out of the deal I think was very telling as to how desperate he is to find a way out. Also, I have to confess that when I heard what this episode was going to be about, I was a little dissapointed when the call wasn't actually from John. However, I think it made for a really good episode, and the question whether or not it was John made the whole thing really suspensful.
Can't wait for the next one!

With season 4 episodes going steadily downhill, this episode picks it up a bit. At the risk of sounding like a fan, I believe that it's all due to the appearance of Da'an. Episodes with him in always seem to be better than episodes without. This episode is centered around the character, and that's probably why it's better than most others this season. Not only is Leni Parker a great actress, but the character is always well written and easy to get to know and like.
This is another of those episodes, like "The Cloister" of a previous season, where through most of the episode, it appears as though Da'an is actually up to no good, only for it to be reveiled near the end that he was actually doing good instead, as always. My favourite line in the whole episode has to be the one at the end, where Liam says "I had to tell [Da'an] what happened just so he would stop looking at me funny". Or something like that, I'm sure it's not a direct quote. It was hilarious though!

About Me

LadyGawain
There are those who dance, and those who resonate concrete. I'm more of a resonating concrete person myself, but I don't mind those who dance nor do I care who they dance with. Besides, even those who resonate concrete can be persuaded to dance once in a while. (And if you don't watch Doctor Who and can't make heads or tails of that, then I'm sorry.) What else about me? I'm 20, Canadian, readhead, and a second year college student. I'm studying history and literature right now, but I hope to take a year or two off after this semester to work full time. Currently I work part time with my mother as manager (I don't recommend that situation to anyone). My favourite tv shows are Supernatural and Doctor Who. In fact, those are the only shows on right now that I watch, other than the occasional history documentary. I'm pretty easy going, but I'm also shy. Now this is probably the most information about myself that I have ever given out online, so I think I'll stop there.
