Sony, Thanks for the Memories

Call me overdramatic if you want, but I really won't ne supporting Sony this gen. For a while now I've been holding out on buying a a console this gen, to see what they all had to offer. Both the Wii and the 360 delievered fairly early on, but the PS3 is still having trouble staying above water IMO. I mean, Sony doesn't even seem to have a game plan anymore. Microsoft is attempting to win over the PS2 market place by getting Sony franchises on their console, Wii is appealing to both the casual and hardcore market, but what is the PS3 doing? I still have no idea.

E3: Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony Conference Reflections

With the Big Three's Conferences over I decided to reflect upon what I've seen. Really, my opinon is like many others, quite frankly the conferences were pretty meh. Without a doubt the biggest announcement made was FFXIII being a PS3/360 multiplat. Outside of that, I really was not impressed with what the Big Three had to offer.

Microsoft: For the most part, Microsoft's Conference was okay. Up until the FFXIII announcement it was nothing spectacular. What I did like was the previous mentioned FFXIII announcement (which gives me more initiative to get a 360), the videos for Fable 2 and GeoW2 were fairly good, and Netfilx options is a nice draw. My major complaint with the conference was the lack of new games announced for the 360 and XBLA's only real notable addition was Banjo Kazooie (which is pretty sweet). And, I'm not quite that excited for Avatars.

Nintendo: ...What can I say, Nintendo was really sub-par this year. No Pikmin, No new Zelda, no new Mario. No instead, when it came to the Wii, everything was casual. While I did find the Wii Music Performance pretty amusing I was really expecting more. Other than Star Wars Clone Wars, there weren't many interesting Wii titles announced. On the DS side, not much to be said either. I was hoping for some Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest Vids, but no luck. Instead we get GTA (which I'm not too excited about) and another Guitar Hero. So overall, I wasn't too big on Nintendo this year.

Sony: Microsoft may have had quality in Final Fantasy XIII, but Sony certainly did have the quantity. The LBP vids were amazing, and new games were announced for the PS2, and even better for me, the PSP!! New PSP bundle and a PS3 price drop was also establish. Sadly not much was new on the PS3 side. There was the new R&C (downloadable game) and what most will be talking about; the GoW3 teaser. Ultimately, Sony had a lot of variety but lacked the impact that Microsoft had.

Overall, there was much left to be desired. Maybe I'm just dissapointed that I didn't see any KOTOR3 (360), Jak (PS3), or Zelda (Wii). But it did please me to see FFXIII go on the 360 and some killer PSP titles announced.

FFXIII to go to the 360!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap, I'm lost for words. Not really, but this is so shocking. Square Enix has really given Sony a giant middle finger this gen when it comes to the PS3, not that I'm complaining. By buying a 360 instead of a PS3, this would've been the biggest title I would've missed out on along with God of War 3. Now that this game is multiplat, it really leaves me with no fear that KH3 will probably end up on the Wii or the 360 as well.

Top 10 Games of E3

With E3 around the corner, I've decided to make another top 10 list, this time focusing around games of E3 I'm most hyped for. Some will be coming out by the end of the year, while others will finally be given some good screen time. So, here are the top ten games I'm excited for at E3.

10. Sonic: Unleashed
Hoping to break the trend of the suckfest that has been Sonic Games as of late, Sega is going with the back to basics approach. Hoping to catch the magic of the original 2D Sonic games, this upcoming Sonic game will once again be 2d with a nice shiny 3d back grounds. That coupled with the multiple views (both back and side), and some Ratchet-like rail sliding gameplay should make for an excellent platformer.

9. Dragon Quest IX
Ever since playing Dragon Quest VIII on my PS2, I've had great ethusiam for the franchise, so you can imagine my surprise when I found out 4 games of the main series were ending up on the DS. Three were remakes, (IV, V, and VI), but the one that has caught my eye the most is IX, the next installment. Whatever the story turns out to be about, there's little doubt in my ming that it'll disapoint.

8. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
While I was among those dissapointed by the fact that this wasn't going to be Banjo-Threeie, I will remain on the positive side. The idea of building your car to meet different platformer challenges sounds insanely interesting. I can only imagine all the different possibilites, and with some sweet online play (hopefully pitting the different vehicles against each other) can make this one of the best Platformers this Gen.

7. Star Wars: Force Unleashed
While I've never been the biggest proponent of the Star Wars franchise, I gotta say, this game looks insanely awesome. Having read up on the Force Unleashed series, it will be interesting to see how the game will differ. What really got me hooked however was the fact that each console (with the exception of the PS3 and 360) has it's own unique features. No doubt, the Wii version will be the most popular.

6. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
There are few games that get me pumped more than a Kingdom Hearts games. With three games on the way, the one that caught my eye the most was the game for the PSP, Birth by Sleep. Set 10 years prior to the first Kingdom Hearts game, it follows the stories of Terra, Vin, and Aqua and they're battle against Xehanort. The gameplay looks to follow that of the PS2 versions, and this does seem to have the darker story that so many of the older Kingdom Hearts fans have been looking for.

5. Chrono Trigger DS
This game is a total shocker and really makes me wonder why didn't SE just wait until E3 to announce it. Chrono Trigger, which hasn't seen a port since the PS1 days is finally being made available to the new generation. While not much is apparently being added to it, but speaking as a person who never played the original (and is a major RPG fan) I'm more than excited to play this baby.

4. Dissidia: Final Fantasy
This Action/Fighter RPG is my most anticipated PSP game. Much in the way of Super Smash Bros., this game seems to be the ultimate fan service. We now get a Final Fantasy Crossover without the need of Disney Characters. I finally get to see Sephiroth duke it out with Kuja, and Tidus Jecht Shot Zidane. As you can see, this is game was made for me.

3. Fable 2
Despite Molyneux gaining an infamous rep for overhyping his games, Fable 2 looks promosing nonetheless. With a far better Moral system (ie, you can be morally corrupt while still being a general good person, while you can be bad while doing good deeds), and bigger emphasis on your choices affecting the world around you this game really looks like it'll deliver. Hands down, this is the main reason for me wanting to purchase a 360.

2. Final Fantasy XIII
Square-Enix never seems to dissapoint me. They're games have comprised of half of my list. Of the future RPG's, Final XIII looks to be the best. The gameplay seems to follow the steps of Final Fantasy XII. This no doubt, looks to be a far better game due to the interesting lead. Here's hoping the story will continue th trend of epic storylines Final Fantasy games are known for.

1. God of War 3
Kratos' story is finally coming to an end and I really can't wait to see how it unfolds. God of War was miles and beyond my favorite franchise introduced on the PS2. From the gameplay, to the epic boss fights, to the engrossing story, this game was a perfect match for anyone into action games. Kratos has come a long way, and I really can't wait to see how his final battle with the gods will play out.

I'm going to follow this up with my predictions later so look out for it.

I'm all set for college

I've finally been assigned my dormitory today. Much to pleasure, I got my first choice too. I decided to go with an apartment-styled dormitory since I'd have my own bed room. It's basically four single bedrooms with a kitchen, two bathrooms, and a living room. So I'm pretty excited. So far, I only have two other roomates so I plan to email them in the future, to see if they're as big of a gamer as me.

On the gaming front, I beat Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal this morning. It's tied with Going Commando as my favorite game of the franchise. I also got Odin Sphere in the mail today. I plan to play it as soon as I get off of work. Crush should arrive later this week.

A animated series which spoofs reality shows. When first airing, I felt it was innovative. It found a real good foundation to build up on. The cast of characters on this show is unique, each representing every stereotype (to the point of over exaggeration) and they each their own brand of comedy to the table. The only thing it really lacked in it's first season was real knee slapping humor most of it's rivals (South Park, Family Guy, Simpsons) have all been able to produce consistently. The second season took more drastic measures, as it strayed further from it's reality spoof roots. Heavy focus was put on Captain Hero, the fan favorite character. More episodes became funnier and funnier, with the actual stories taking the back seat. Several characters, Ling Ling and Tootie in particular, were pushed to the back to make more room for Captain Hero episodes.

The fact of the matter is, I was never completely impressed with both concepts. I realize that the main goal of a comedy animated series is to be funny. But when you have other animated series such as Simpsons and South Park, which both are capable of telling engaging stories, the whole "as long as it's funny' concept seems mute. The writers attempted the rectify the first attempt by doing a complete 360 with the concept. When I first saw of this a a reality spoof, I was hoping to see insight on all the cast. While the first season manage to do that, the second instantly became Captain Hero and his Spectacular Comrades. The humor in the show can also be called into question. Drawn to Character shares a lot in common with Family Guy humor. It, for the most part, goes from one joke, to next, and then some. It relatively lacks smart humor you normally find in other Adult Cartoons. My little rant aside, more times than not, the show is actually funny.

The Boondocks

It's very rare these days to find a show with a powerfully enough message to make you think. Better yet, it's even harder to find an adult comedy that does. Boondocks is that show.

The Boondocks is based off of it's comic strip. The comic and the show is basically Aaron McGruder's, the creators, way of voicing his opinion on black culture and nation/world news.

Boondocks revolves around Huey Freeman, a ten-year old who's quite possibly the smartest person in this show. He's extremely aware of what's going on in the world. Most episodes revolve around something that relates to the black culture. In almost every episode, there's always line that is bound to make you think for the next few hours.

The humor of the episode is primarily provided by Riley, Robert Freeman, Uncle Ruckus. Each character has their own unique personality that acts as a foil to Huey's serious personality. The most notable being Riley who is the complete opposite of Huey, Huey being a young black activist, while Riley is the embodiment of urban culture.

Each character in the show represents the extreme of black stereotypes. Huey is the character who does his best not to live up to stereotype, and is very aware of what is going on in the world around him. Riley represents the black youth who try to live up to the hype of the urban culture. Robert Freeman represents the old fashioned black elders, and Uncle Ruckus is the self-race hater.

Boondocks proves to be a good show to watch. While the show may sometimes may focus to much on doing something contriversal, the message always come out clear and the humor never fails.

Family Guy is one of those contreversal shows that have a giant cult following. I know this, because I was one of the followers. But as time go by, I've started to lost interest in the show. Though, this isn't because of one particular reason.

Family Guy revolves around Peter Griffin and his family. And every episode their family are involved in some new random plot. In truth, the plot always take a back seat to the comedy. While the show is extremely funny, not every episode lives up to expectation. One of the main problem with the show is majority of the jokes are errevalent to the plot. Often times, they revert to trashing every other show. Take away all these senseless jokes and you only have about 5 minutes of the story.

Not to say that this show doesn't has it's strong points though. More than not, the show hit's the head right on the nail. The Jokes are funny most of the time, and this series boast a wide range of zanny characters. The most notably of the characters being Stewey, the genius baby who wants to kill his mom.

I realize I'll receive heat for this review, but giving it a ten simply because it makes you laugh is dumb. The fact that Family Guy simply get's by because of irrevelant jokes proves that it is not a true classic. In truth, Family Guy is merely popularized thanks to the fan following.

Oh, the infamous 'Return of the King' episode. It caused quite a stur in the black community with Martin Luther King Jr. dropping the N-bomb. Like many things with this series, people tend to focus more on the contreversal scene shown instead of the message behind it. Quite frankly, this is the most powerful episode of season 1.

The main aspect of this episode is how would Martin Luther feel if he was alive today. To see how the black community is because of all the work he, and the other activist did. And well, he was up for a rude awakening. Martin Luther drops the n-bomb out of dissapointment of the black community. All his hardwork went to make a better life for them could be considered a waste, since they continue to potray themselves in stereotypes.

Like always, the characters are potrayed well. Huey does everything in his power to make Martin Luther's rep good again. We get another splendid flash back of Robert's past, (Rosa Parks getting all credit for not moving off her seat when it was Robert's idea.) And Uncle Ruckus stays true to his nature.

In the end, this episode really does make you think. Would this really be Martin Luther's reaction to the black community if he was still alive today? Who knows, but this episode really does paint a good picture.

Johnny Test

Let me state the record that I really don't like current line-up on Kids WB. The lame shows seem to be dominated the current line-up. One of the shows being Johnny Test.

Johnny Test is a show about a an eleven year old boy named Johnny and his talking dog (I'm a little sick of talking dogs now) who gets mixed up into weird adventures. He has two older twin sisters (who happen to be super geniuses) who tend use Johnny as a guinea pig for their experiments.

This show is highly unoriginal. Everytime I watch this show, I notice how extremely similar it is to Fairly OddParents. Every element of this show seems to be ripped from Fairly OddParents, one way or another. Johnny always rush into getting an invention from his sisters, which always seem to have bad consequences. It reminds me how Timmy will make a wish without thinking it through and things go bad.

The reason I don't like this show though is it is unfunny. The characters are pretty boring, mainly the talking dog. Johnny's character is the stereotype of preteen guys. The episodes are very uneventful. They rarely change in the plot department.

Though some people will disagree with me, I'm only stating the fact. Johnny Test is pure garbage and it should be taken off air soon.
