Heath Ledger
Hey all,
Sad news yesterday that Heath Ledger passed away. I just want to let everyone know that the guide has been updated, but changes are going in slowly; they're in, but not appearing. I had a bunch of subs come through late tonight, several hours after I'd updated it. So, not sure if there is some delay with the queue, or the updates actually going through on his page, but they are in there.
Rest in peace Heath.
Edit: To the person who had aproblem with one of my rejections, my advice is to read the editor's blog first. I have explained what happened, and I don't appreciate your saying I'm just stealing what you submitted, because I'm not. You submitted a spelling correction which would have overwritten everything that I'd done to the biography (as well as the newly adjusted cause of death that I had just approved), so I couldn't accept it. And hey, I didn't go back and fix it either; I gave you the chance to resubmit, which you did (and yes, it was accepted). When conflicting subs come in, sometimes you're forced to resubmit. I'm sorry that it's unforgiving, but you shouldn't go accusing people of things. This is a sad thing that's happened, and definitely an inappropriate time to go making silly, false accusations.
Is There a Rule on Polls/Nomiations (Person Editors)?
Is there a rule on people trivia sections containing poll results that I don't know about? Personally I'm getting irritated when people submit 10 trivia, each a different poll on Orlando Bloom's "sexiness." Who the heck cares that randomguyswebsite.com voted him 3rd sexiest man in the world in 2002? And Maxim said #2, and GQ said #5, and he was also voted at various positions over the last 5 years, etc. It's getting cluttered.
Is there a rule for this? I tried to fix it a bit in the Oprah guide, combining it into one trivia. But really... should these be present in the guide at all, if the person didn't take #1?
Also, what about nominations? Should those be combined into one entry as well? I think it would look nicer.
Basically anything that has list potential is somewhat of a problem. For singers like Elvis who have had lots of hits over the years, it would be fine to include all #1 hits in a single entry, right?
Okay, I definitely need to get another coffee. My brain hurts from thinking too hard too early in the morning.
Later,
Lisa

A New Adventure!
I am heading to Boston (for good)next week. Can't wait! Gave notice at work, and my last day is Friday. That leaves this comingweekend to wrap up a few things, and then on Jan 15 I'll be heading to L.A. for a couple days, and the actual flight to Boston is from LAX on Jan 17.
So last Wednesday, I went to see the lead singer of my favorite band, Jimmy Gnecco of Ours,do a solo acousticshow at Red Devil Lounge. It was, simply put, amazing. I am just in awe of that man's voice. His range is freakin' astounding. I took some pics, but better yet, I took some videos too. Do lemme know what you think. I know I don't have the steadiest hand, but I think the sound turned out great, and maybe you'll be able to see why I love Ours so much. Most of you will recognize the first song (unless you have no clue who Roy Orbison is... and if you don't, I really can't help you).

2008 Starting With a Bang: Editor Rejection Spree
Sorry guys, for the rejections. I had an alarmingly high number of them to banish from my queuetoday. ![]()
Please, I can't stress enough, try your best to be accurate.
If you're submitting to a guide, don't simply copy and paste, and not modify it at all. Try to use Firefox if you can, as it will catch spelling errors.
Don't mass-submit. I can't stress more: Quality over Quantity. If you are submitting 80 subs to something, just copying and pasting from another website, you're going to get rejections. Be careful also to make sure that the information is not already in the guide. If you're submitting to a person guide, read the entire trivia and quote section before you submit.
Remember to italicize movie and show titles. Don't be lazy and submit quotes without the proper formatting (i.e. BOLD the person's name).
If you're submitting a quote, whether it's for a person or show, make sure it's notable. Britney saying, "I like food." is not a notable quote. Also, make sure thingsare in context. Use italics to explain if you have to.
..., also known as ellipses, should be used sparingly, for long pauses. Don't use them where you could use a comma or period. And remember, it's THREE, count them: .... THREE dots if you're going to use them. Not four, and not 10. THREE. Let me know if this is not clear.
Sorry to rant... it's just that I've said it many times before, and lately, subs have been getting worse.
Not to end on a sour note however, I want to wish everyone a very happy new year.
Best,
Lisa
P.S. PLEASE do not take rejections personally. I am not attacking you. I always make sure to explain why something was rejected, and hopefully you will be more careful next time.

And I swear, the genius that runs that feminine commercial over and over needs to be canned. I'm certainly never going to purchase from them, ever. Can we get a little variety please? I know, perhaps odd to mention that in the show review, but the damn ad is 30 seconds long, and each show episode is around 2 minutes. So 20% of each episode is the same ad over and over.
Okay, I think I've made my point.

Somewhat of a boring video due to the repetitiveness, but my favorite fight in SSC. Song is "On the Run" by Tillmann Uhrmacher.
