Torchwood Cyberwoman Avg Score: 7.93 Total Ratings: 317 Total Reviews: 31 Users who agree: 1 |
I fully don't understand why so many users/reviewers hate this episode so much, because to me it was a pretty good episode of Torchwood. Why? Because Lanto, the caretaker of the base and the most mysterious character of the series finally get some screen time and back story.
In this brief time that this series has aired, Lanto has been molded into the person that is behind the scenes doing all of the unattractive work, like buying the team food and cleaning up the mess that might be made by the team, but necessary work to kept this operation running smoothly and secret. It seems that he is quite happy with this position that he has acquired in this operation, but in this episode we fine out that he just like the rest of the team, he has a past and a personal life in the name of a girlfriend.
A girlfriend that was caught up in the middle of a battle that was between the Cybermen and Daleks. Which is again a very realist thing that can happen to people whom had nothing to do with the battle. While I have seen many episodes like this before but with this episode Lanto seems to be truly smitten by her, like the fact that he cried at her dead body and hit Jack in the face after forcing him to leave with she was fighting with the pterodactyl.
Also Capt. Jack also shinned in this episode as well with the fact that he is truly protective of this operation, which we later fine out was reformed by him after it was destroyed and he is willing to kill another member of his team to kept it safe. But he is also shows that he is a good leader as well with the fact that he give Lanto the choice to stay or leave the operation, which Lanto choice the later.

Okay, I understand that this series has a huge following outside of the USA and because of that I tried to watch it, while it was on its brief time while it was on the Discovery Channel in the US, to see what it was all about. I have to said is that I wasn't to impressed by what I saw here. So I just don't understand what all of the buzz is about and I don't think it has to be the fact that I am female. I think it was the fact that I think I grew up on the PBS series, Motorweek back in 1980s that might of tinted my feelings about it.
I thought that might because of Discovery's handing of it, because I know that USA and UK network have a different way they handed the commerical breaks and the to many commerical breaks might of destroyed the timing of the episodes, which is sometimes a key to the humor, that this series is reported to have. So once again I tried to watch it again on the BBC America, which I think is a better choice for this series, but once again I found myself with a bitter taste in my mouth about the series.
Again, I got nothing wrong with the fans of the series, because everybody is different and is emtitled to their own feelings, but this isn't my cup of tea.

The Primetime Emmy Awards The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Avg Score: 7.17 Total Ratings: 11 Total Reviews: 3 |
The 59th telecast of the Primetime Emmys has to be the one of the worst that I have ever seen in a long time. Why? Because Ryan Seacrest seemed to out place with this aunnal event and all of his jokes seemed to be either forced nor they were funny unlike last year's telecast that was on NBC. Now, I don't blame Seacrest for the bad jokes, because he didn't write the jokes, but at least he could of dilevered them a little better.
Another thing was the fact that it was on FOX and this was the first time that they aired something like this with so much weight toward it, but FOX is no stranger to live events, because they have done numberous of Football, Baseball, and Hockey events. But, FOX has a theme of series that seem to be geared toward the hip crowd of viewership and while that is great for FOX he doesn't translate well with the Emmys, that have been around longer than FOX. One more thing that I didn't like was the mention of Global Warrming in this telecast, while I know that is a hot topic issue of late, but I kind of sick of hearding it all of time(I think a good majority of the user as well are sick of it as well) and whenever something is going on with the climate they blame it on Global Warming. It like now Global Warming is now the new scapegoat.
While I do comment them for using old materal for the set, but not because of the new "Go Green" fad, but because it would save them on money. But I didn't like the set design either it seemed a little werid and I felt that some of the crowd that was facing the wrong direction wouldn't be able to see the winner nor the presteners and it seemed that some of the winners didn't like the set design either.

Lobster Wars Avg Score: 7.22 Total Ratings: 17 Total Reviews: 3 Users who disagree: 1 |
A look into the lives of the New England Lobstermen in the same fashion that made "Deadliest Catch" such a huge hit for Discovery, despite the its recent criticizes. So it would be no surprise that Discovery would look for another fishery to document.
Whenever a TV series become a successfully hit for the a network that air it and is completely different from any thing else that is on TV at the time of its airing, it will no doubt spawn spin-offs that are both different, but the similar, it one of the oldest tricks in the book. It has been done numerous of times and there are a ton of examples of it. Sometimes it will produced a hit or it will become a miss, only time will tell if Lobster Wars will be hit or a miss.
While Lobster Wars doesn't have the epic nature of Deadliest Catch, and the producers tried that in the two-part mini-series "Lobstermen: Jeopardy at Sea" and it felt like a cheap rip off, but while the boats in Lobster Wars are smaller than the ones in Deadliest Catch, it doesn't lessen the dangers that these people face down while they trying to do their job. I do suggest that you should at least give it a shot and leave all of the pre-thoughts notions that Deadliest Catch taught you and view it with an open mine, like you did when you first saw Deadliest Catch, you might be surprised that you might like it.

There is more to the surface than simple battle of the sexes tennis match in this episode and a student that just want to play tennis, minus all of the political issues that are surrounding her game.
Once again I see, an allegory in this episode, which I like seeing, but it isn‘t over the top, for it let‘s the viewer see the allegory without the writers connecting the dots for us. This time the allegory it the dark side of a person’s new found fame. How the new media and the fans can trump a person up as the greatest thing since slice bread, also now it can ruffle the feathers of a person fellow associates, how they think that they have gone all “Hollywood” on them. Despite the fact that they think that they haven’t done that and that they feel in the long run, that they will still be doing their job when all of the 15 minutes of fame has passed them by and the general public has move on a new craze. A good example of this, are the stars of Discovery’s hit series “Deadliest Catch”, who feel that they haven’t changed but the fellow fishermen that don’t get the airtime, feel like that they have changed.
This episode also goes into the demented world of obsessed fans that feel that it was them that had made the person the way that they are and the superstar should be grateful for what the fans have done for them. When they feel that they aren’t grateful for them, they feel like they are stuck up and all of the fame that they have acquired has gone straight to their head, that sometimes can lead up to stalking, harassment on the phone, and even, if things get out of head, death, something that we have seen before and something that I fear might happen again with new stars that we are in love with right now.
And finally, we also see how parents live vicarious through their children, controlling their action with the masquerade that they are doing what they think is the right thing for them, but in fact it what they want for them and that when they rebel against it they feel like they are betraying them, again something that we are seeing to much nowadays with parents fighting against the officials and coaches that they feel are putting their children down.
