Are You Afraid of the Dark? The Tale of the Shiny Red Bicycle Avg Score: 8.88 Total Ratings: 46 Total Reviews: 3 |
Overall this was one of the more potentially interesting episodes, and the general execution is probably fantastic for kids to watch, I do remember enjoying it back when I was about 8 or 9.
However there is one major plothole that spoiled the whole thing for me, something that virtually all younger viewers will miss. *spoilers* Mike begins to see the ghost of his friend. He gets a fever and is confined to bed, thus meaning he can't go on his regular fishing trip with his little brother. His little brother goes with two friends, and ends up in trouble. The ghost of Ricky then tells Mike he came to warn him, that he has to save his brother. However, had the ghost never appeared in the first place, Mike would have gone on the fishing trip as per usual and he would have been there to stop the little brother from getting into that trouble. Ultimately it was the ghost who set up the crisis situation which was supposedly, as summarised at the end, Ricky's repayment to Mike for trying to save him. Hardly, when it was the ghost's fault it happened.
However, if you ignore that rather large plothole, overall its one of the better episodes.
