Doctor Who Season Four - A Ranking.
Torchwood last blog, now Doctor Who this blog ![]()
13. The Planet of the Ood

This episode wasn't that bad, it was just VERY corny. I love the Ood, but I don't really like the feel-good stories. Well, it depends, but when its aimed at a children's audience, feel-good endings are just incredibly corny.
12. The Unicorn and the Wasp
Another corny one. I loved that we got to see Agatha Christie, and the story was just like it was out of one of her novels, but the whole wasp storyline was just a little dodgy.
11. The Poison Sky

This episode wasn't terrible, but I see the Sontarans as the Ferengi of the Whoniverse - An enemy you just can't take seriously. It could be because they look like potatoes with legs, or it could be because they weren't all that threatening in this episode, compared to older episodes. Either way, they were threatening when we didn't know who they were then when we knew who they were.
10. The Sontaran Strategem

Again, not a terrible episode. It had promise before the Outer Space Mr. Potato Heads decided to show their faces. Martha was alright in this episode, it was good to see UNIT, but like all military institutions, they're cocky. There were just better episodes this season.
9. Partners in Crime
As much as this episode was fun, the rest are just so much better
. I'm the kind of girl who loves cute little things, but the Adipose freaked me out. They're clumps of walking fat, and after watching a liposuction procedure, they were just disgusting
. The best part of the episode definitely goes to when the Doctor and Donna first see eachother, and are miming across the room ![]()
8. The Doctor's Daughter

A rather cool episode, could have been made a little better with Jenny being the Doctor's actual Doctor instead of a clone from a skin cell of the back of his hand. Theoretically, all of those clones should be infertile as skin cells don't contain have sex chromosomes, and sex chromosomes determine sex and development of sexual organs. So, thinking about it, Jenny should have been a male. She should have been an exact clone of the Doctor, actually... BUT, lets ignore all that and say its because the Doctor isn't human
. I was glad to see Donna had a big role in this, in determining how long the war was going on, and Martha on the other side of the war.
7. The Fires of Pompeii

Isn't it cool knowing that the Doctor was responsible for the destruction of Pompeii?
. This episode was mighty cool, the prophecies about the Doctor and Donna were fantastic, and the Pyroviles were rather cool too. It was actually good seeing the other side of the Doctor - The "unable to help" Doctor. We need to see more of this Doctor ![]()
6. Forest of the Dead

And here's where it gets VERY hard. The remaining 6 episodes are so fantastic, they're practically all tied for the best one. BUT, here is my ranking anyway. Forest of the Dead was great. It was a great conclusion to the Vashta Nerada storyline. However, Donna in the database was a little too drawn out for my liking. But it was a good conclusion, especially how everyone was "saved".
5. Silence in the Library

Great episode. The Vashta Nerada are an awesome enemy, leaving nothing but a skeleton after they're done with the body. And they way they were controlling the skeletons - too awesome. We were also introduced to River, a future companion to the Doctor, someone who the Doctor doesn't know about. And in the end we don't know who she was, or her relevance to the Doctor. BUT, a good mystery didn't do anyone harm ![]()
4. Journey's End
This episode was great, but not the strongest conclusion ever. In the end, there were just too many people to keep track of. As soon as the Ostahagan (sp?) Key was dealt with, Martha was practically out of the picture. But not only that, they introduced the second Doctor (not a complaint
), Mickey and Jackie. There were too many people to keep track of, and while it really isn't a bad thing, it just meant other characters were pushed into the background. It was still an awesome conclusion though, but the most awesome part of the episode was this part
:
3. Midnight
Such an awesome episode. We have the Doctor, all alone, pitted against 6 confused, angry people who are afraid of him when he had knew more than the lot of them put together. This one played on emotion... We saw what happens when no one is there to protect the Doctor. But the outstanding performance goes to Lesley Sharp. She spent most of the episode copying what everyone was saying, and did it flawlessly. Not to mention she has the scariest eyes, and when she was staring at everyone, it was super creepy. Shivers... Super shivers from me!
2. The Stolen Earth

A great start to the end of series four. We're introduced to Davros and his new super cool army of Daleks, who take the Earth with 26 other planets and place them in the Medusa Cascade. The fact that the Earth was stolen was too cool, but the only reason why its second is because the Doctor and Donna took so long to realise what had happened, and took so long to find Earth, only to leave us with his impending regeneration! I swear, it was the most EVIL storyline anyone could have thought of. Anyway, I would have been happier not seeing the Shadow Proclamation.
1. Turn Left
Yep, my number one is Turn Left. Why? We just see how much better the world is with the Doctor around. David may have been in it for all of 5 minutes, but seeing the destruction of London, hearing that Martha, Sarah Jane, Gwen and Ianto all gave their lives in situations the Doctor fixed - It was too cool. And then there was the focus on Donna's family. I never liked Donna's mum, but she was just brilliant in this episode. She plays a good post-apocalyptic survivor very well. Also seeing Rose save the day, it was all just too good!
--
STARGATE ATLANTIS - 5.01 - SEARCH AND RESCUE
A great opener to season 5. Of course, our main characters survived; including Lorne - I was SO glad they kept him
. The hunt to save Teyla intensified, and they of course saved her, and she of course gave birth on the Wraith ship, and the baby was delivered by Rodney of course. And while I'm at it, of course Michael got away. As predictable as this episode was, it was still great! But they blew the season's budget on that super cool effect sci-fi shows use when on a fixed planet in space, and they zoom right out through the solar system, until you see the Galaxy, then it zooms in to another point in space. That was the coolest effect used EVER by the guys behind Atlantis, but like I said, it killed their budget, because a mere ship explosion looked dodgy... Like early 1990's dodgy. It was SO bad! But, other than that, a great opener. Oh, then there was Woolsey
. I am probably the ONLY person excited about that ![]()
--
So, while I still have the spare time, I am trying to acquire a TV show guide
. The show's previous editor disappeared, and now the guide is editorless. I want it SO bad, because the guide is in such a mess, and its a cool show. Which show, you ask? That'll be Metalocalypse! In a nutshell, its about a Death Metal band who are the biggest band in the world, and the story focuses on the stupidity of the band members, and recording songs. Which brings us to my Metal corner!
DETHKLOK
The band behind Metalocalypse. The album featured in the first season was released (and its a rockin' album!). The band is half American/half Scandinavian. Some awesome songs on the album include:
and the Opening Theme.

And, of course, a very, very, VERY happy birthday to Liv and France

The Doctor: What?

Whoa... That's a lot of pictures
Torchwood Season Two - A Ranking.
First off - New blog header ![]()
Now. I have been meaning to do this for a long time. I'm on holidays, have nothing to do, so I'll share my thoughts on Torchwood season two:
13. From Out of the Rain
This episode saw into the world of the Night Travelers - a group of travelling performers who take the last breath of people, making them a part of their audience. The premise of the episode was good, but little plotholes made the episode less enjoyable. I admit though, watching this episode another time, it isn't as bad as what I first thought, but its one of those episodes where you have to ignore the plotholes to enjoy it. We got a hint that the Night Travelers may once again terrorise Cardiff, but this is one storyline I hope they don't go back to. It could be due to the fact that I don't like circuses, and have a fear of clowns...
12. Meat

This episode saw the dodgy practices of a company using alien meat from a gigantor whale-looking alien (thus called Whalien) being used in food on Earth. This episode saw Rhys get introduced to Torchwood, and he finds out exactly what it is that Gwen does. Rhys knowing what Torchwood does was a fantastic idea, because it meant we got to see more Rhys!
11. Sleeper

A great episode which saw Sleeper agents present on Earth. The cell would become active when they had gathered enough information to infiltrate Earth, which of course happened during the episode. Some rather cool explosions and the mention of other agents present on Earth made the episode great, but the fact the story was never resolved, as in the other agents were never stopped, was a bit of a let down. But, for all we know the case was passed on to UNIT, and they dealt with it. But it was the fact that there was no mention of what happened that was a bit of a letdown.
10. To the Last Man

Interesting episode in which Torchwood has to unfreeze a WWI soldier for 24 hours every year, as he is vital for a mission to be completed. The thing is, Torchwood doesn't know specifically what that mission involves. This episode also saw the tender relationship between Tommy and Tosh, and when Tosh had fallen in love again, Tommy was taken away from her. A very emotional episode which saw Tosh lose someone she held close to her heart.
9. Something Borrowed
Gwen and Rhys' wedding episode. And of course, it wouldn't be Torchwood if there wasn't an alien involved. Gwen is bitten by a Nostrovite which impregnates her, giving her a 7-months-pregnant look to her. The wedding seems destined to fail when it is discovered that Mother Nostrovite is out to kill Gwen when her baby is born. What made this episode good was that it had moments. One involved Rhys and a chainsaw, the other was a very tender Janto moment, where Jack and Ianto share a dance at the reception. The episode itself wasn't bad, but it was those moments that made it good.
8. Reset

This episode saw the introduction of Martha Jones in Torchwood. Granted for the first of three episodes. She was there to investigate incidences of deaths in which the victim had been injected with hydrogen peroxide. After realising the hydrogen peroxide wasn't the cause of death, the investigation leads to the discovery of a drug called "Reset", in which the drug finds and destroys any viruses, pathogens or diseases the person may be suffering from. The catch is it leads to the incubation of a bug, the Mayfly, which incubates, kills the host releasing a new Mayfly. With the professor in charge of the studies unwilling to back down, Torchwood must stop him, leading to the initial death of Owen. Seeing Martha involved with Torchwood was just cool.
7. Adam
This episode saw the introduction of a new character - Adam. An alien that invades a host's memory and "implants" himself in the memory, in order to survive. The false memories he implants causes real memories to disappear, as was seen when Gwen couldn't remember Rhys. After Adam was discovered by Ianto, Adam attacked him, and made him believe he killed people. This lead to Adam being discovered for who he really was, and the team were retconned to forget him, effectively killing Adam. This episode was good because we saw the extent to which Adam went to in order to survive: Altaring Ianto's memories by giving him bad ones of him killing, getting in a relationship with Tosh so he would have someone to fall back on, and putting himself in Jack's last good memory of his family, hoping that Jack wouldn't have the heart to forget those memories. We also learned that Jack and Ianto play with measuring tapes
6. A Day in the Death
Another episode focusing on Owen's struggle to cope being "dead". As Owen was seen as a "danger" to himself and the team, Jack relieved him of duty. Owen's struggle to be seen as normal and important as anyone else on the team is evident when he is given the task to make coffee for everyone. However, a dangerous mission sees Owen's importance to the Torchwood team reinstated when they need someone to investigate evidence of alien technology in a house with heat sensors. While the mission is a relative success, the person with the alien technology soon dies, and Owen realises that being "dead" means he can't save everyone; something he struggled with. This episode was good because while Owen couldn't save one person, he saved another from commiting suicide. This episode was also the final realiser that Owen needed to cope with being "dead".
5.Fragments
In this episode, we learned how each of the team joined Torchwood. Jack joined when it wass discovered he couldn't die and Torchwood took an interest in him. Tosh joined to get out of prison, Owen joined after witnessing the death of his fiance to a brain-sucking octopus alien thing, and Ianto joined, at the time, purely to get his cyber-girlfriend Lisa in so he could fix her. This episode provided us with the pasts of each character, prior to joining Torchwood, and that's why this episode was great.
4. Adrift

This episode showed us that the Rift doesn't just "dump" aliens and technology, but also takes people from Earth. After investigating one missing persons case with Andy, Gwen soon learns that Cardiff has an epidemic of missing people. With the help of Tosh, they realise its due to the Rift. Gwen's constant pleas to Jack to investigate the missing persons sees that he is infact collecting the people taken by the Rift and keeping them isolated, not only for their protection, but the protection of everyone else. This episode also had a rocking Janto moment
. But what truly made this episode so awesome was that we were introduced to mother Nikki, who had lost her son due to the Rift. When Gwen thought she was doing Nikki good by showing her her "damaged" son, we were shown Nikki's true pain of losing hope that her son would be back. While he was back, he was not the same as Nikki had remembered. Pure raw emotion.
3. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

This episode takes place after an unspecified time between the season one finale, and the season two premiere. We see how the team has evolved to cope without Jack, and their emotions when he returns. But what makes this episode truly amazing is the introduction of Captain John Hart - a twisted character who uses the team to get what he wants. He provided a slight insight into Jack's past, but also we learned that John was just full of himself, which made him such a wonderful character. Why was this episode great? Two words - James Marsters.
2. Dead Man Walking

The aftermath of Owen's "death". This episode saw the return of "Risen Mitten", but with a catch - It also brought upon Death. On one side we have Owen struggling to cope with being "dead", and on ther other side we are shown that the glove didn't just bring Owen back from the dead. Owen himself has the ability to make Weevils bow down before him, making him the King of Weevils (yes, I couldn't resist
).Why is this episode do great? We are used to seeing Owen as a fearless, not-caring-about-what-everyone-else-has-to-say, to not being able to control his situation. This episode saw Owen come around full-circle: Not being able to handle being "dead", wanting to permanently "die" because he didn't want to be, and accepting that there is nothing he could do, and "lived" with the situation, so to speak.
1. Exit Wounds

The final episode of Torchwood season two. An episode full of excitement and sadness. A few laughs and many more tears. All season we were teased that Jack had a brother. The happy reunion we were all hoping for turned sour when Grey was in fact responsible for the near destruction of Cardiff, and the deaths of Owen and Tosh. What made this episode so great? It had non-stop action, from start to finish.

DOCTOR WHO - 4.12 - THE STOLEN EARTH
DOCTOR WHO - 4.13 - JOURNEY'S END

Rather non-spoilery picture for those who haven't seen these two episodes ![]()
I've been describing The Stolen Earth as "the worst case scenario times 10!" In this episode, we're introduced (re-introduced for some) to Davros and a whole new race of Daleks. I love the Daleks, so I was really happy. Great to see Ianto
Though, after two years on Torchwood, we see him laugh! I got the feeling that they wanted to portray every character as being perfect, that none of them had problems or issues. No mentions of the passing of Owen and Tosh to Martha, but mentions of Tosh in both episodes. Also loved that Gwen was talking to Rhys.
I was never a fan of Sarah Jane, and I couldn't stand her in the previous episode she was in, but she didn't annoy me at all in this episode. I was also happy we saw one kid (and I hate child geniuses, so I can only handle one
) and Mr. Smith made me laugh with its introduction with the music and everything.
And the regeneration!! It left me open-mouthed, wide-eyed and stunned. I was just like "Holy crap! They can't do this to us, not now!! It was obvious that a Dalek would appear to exterminate one of them, but I expected Rose to cop it, not the Doctor!!
Spoilers for Journey's End below, if people have been reading ![]()
Journey's End - Fantastic. Glenn worked out that the Doctor's hand would enable the 10th Doctor would remain the same. Glenn and I were joking all week that if the Doctor would regenerate into the 11th Doctor, he'd turn into Richard Hammond
It was great to see Mickey and Jackie again. It was also good that Mickey came back to our universe again. He didn't really say bye to Rose, and said that he'd miss Jackie the most. I thought that was cute. Mickey on Torchwood - I'll be happy with that
.
I think the shocker of this episode was definitely the new Doctor and Donna gaining the Doctor's mind. Naked Doctor!!
- I was happy we got a view of his chest (and a nice chest he has
). It was surreal hearing Donna talk like the Doctor. All fast and super smart. I also loved the mention back to the Ood with the Doctor Donna statements. It was also really sad to see Donna go. At least she didn't literally die like Dalek Caan kept stating, but it was still a "death" none the less.
Phew... That was long ![]()
DEXTER - SEASON ONE

Dexter started down here last night, and in the week and a half of advertising hype, I've waited forever to see it. Glenn 'acquired' it for me, and we watched all 12 episodes. IT WAS FANTASTIC!! I can't believe I didn't watch it when it was on cable. I can't believe that its taken me so long to watch it. What I found so awesome about it was the fact that each character has their flaws. They're not all perfect characters.
Dexter was just phenomenal. No one other than Michael C. Hall could have portrayed Dexter better. And how cool is the opening credits? The coolest opeining credits ever!!
The Ice Truck Killer was also awesome, and loved the revelation that the Ice Truck Killer was really Dexter's brother.
Then there was the blood and gore
. Dexter really makes me want to be a Forensic blood spatter analysist
. Actually, when I was studying Forensic Biology, we studied blood spatter analysis, so even now I can tell you about cast off patterns, and shapes of blood drops, and a list of what items could have caused the spatter ![]()
GET SMART
This movie was brilliant. I've been a fan of Get Smart since I was young (It used to be on Saturday afternoons). While this movie doesn't channel Don Adams' Maxwell Smart, there are instances where Steve Carell has just done a brilliant job at portraying Maxwell Smart. Definitely see it if you're a fan of the original, but don't go in expecting it to be with all the old technologies. While they are in this movie, they show today's technologies (i.e. The Cone of Silence). Also - Anne Hathaway is annoying.
HANCOCK

I actually liked this movie. And its a shame most people don't. The bad reviews I've read include the lack of a good 'enemy' for Hancock to fight. And that's the point. Hancock is not a superhero movie in the sense that there is a comic book/science fiction element to it. It wasn't meant to be seen as one of those super hero movies. This is the other side of the coin. Hancock helps stop the criminals of Los Angeles, but we see the public's perception that he is a menace because of the damage he causes. If you go into the movie expecting that, you'll like it.

- answer 8 long answer questions (from half a page to a page long)
- and answer two even longer page questions (1+ pages).
It was evil. You'd think 3 hours would be plenty of time, and even be able to leave early - Hell no! I left at 12:10pm (exam started at 9:30am), and I would have been the third or fourth to leave from my class. Suffice to say my wrist is killing me ![]()

DOCTOR WHO - 4.11 - TURN LEFT

OH. MY. GOD. This episode was phenomenal. "There's something on your back"
. Okay, so it wasn't a knife, thrusted into Donna's back by an evil Rose, but the bug feeding off time travel (wibbly wobbly timey wimey) stuff, still cool! It was just cool to see how everyone's lives were affected by the Doctor's death. How Sarah Jane sacrificed herself to save Earth, how Martha sacrificed herself to save a colleague, how Gwen and Ianto sacrificed themselves to save Earth too (
), and the destruction of London as well. Its just too awesome. Just showed how much the Doctor does for everyone. And the "Bad Wolf" signs everywhere... it was just fantastic! Can't wait for next week's episode - Ianto

I loved that Kavanaugh returned. He may have caused the destruction of the midway station, but he feinted, again, when his life was in danger, but it was still good to see him, and that he hadn't died.
The best parts of this episode was the interaction of Teal'c and Ronon. More when they were working together than when they were 'enemies'. It was also more the banter, how Ronon commented how Teal'c always says 'indeed', and how Teal'c wanted Ronon's gun.
In general, it was just good to see Teal'c again.

Admittedly, this episode made me cry. The scene where Tosh and Tommy are in bed, and he asks her what happens when he goes back. It was just that "Do they find my body?" line that did it, followed by the hug, it set me right off.
Anyways... I am loving the fact that Owen was looking out for Tosh. He has changed from his "me, myself and I" ways. And they are cute together
I'm also loving Gwen. She's taken it down a notch or 10, and is completely bearable. The scenes with Gwen's encounters with the "ghosts" from 1918 scared me... Sent shivers down my spine!
And Jack and Ianto! Serious squeeage from me! And it was longer than four fifths of a second! I want more! More kissing, more interaction, more everything!

But what made this episode gold was that last 30 seconds or so, where it was revealed that not only a Replicator ship survived, but Weir did too! I just hope she remains evil, because that would be so totally awesome!

I too was one of those people who thought the whole jail-storyline would be the death of Earl, but thinking about it now, and after watching the episodes, it was a fresh change from the usual "I'll tick this off my list, get in some trouble, but fix it" thing. Granted, its practically the same thing that's happened in jail, but I found these episodes more entertaining as a whole.

Ben was so cute! I, and I'm sure like the rest of the girls who love the show(!), am convinced that Ben is Dean's son. Anything is possible, and I believe this is.
I was probably the most skeptical on the fact that the two new girls weren't going to be love-interests to Dean and Sam. But now that it has been revealed that Ruby is a demon, is just... wow! Now, the only question is, who is she, and what is her connection to Sam? Some interesting plot lines to develop!
