Weeds The Two Mrs. Scottsons Avg Score: 8.78 Total Ratings: 161 Total Reviews: 7 |
I think my favourite scene had to be some of the conversation between Isabelle and Shane - his character is really growing on me this episode, also the descriptions of the kids were hilarious "Celia's dyke meaning Isabelle and "crazy eyes" for Shane.
I also loved the new character, Valerie. This business of Nancy stalking her is quite well thought up, and the character's similarity to Nancy and mania are perfect. It will be interesting to see where this storyline goes, particularly after the shocking end of the episode.
Once again I was a little bit disappointed with Andy's storyline though, as he could have done more.
However, Celia's plot was quite touching this episode, and I hope Sullivan doesn't hurt her too much.

The episode was superb, once again introducing loaded ideas about time travel and fate etc. It's quite an interesting follow-up storyline after Des' flash-forwards, as the purpose of those revolved around Charlie, who is now dead which makes the flash-forwards somewhat redundant. However this could be even more exciting as we can see that other characters may also be affected.
At the beginning of the episode I was somewhat lost, but by the end everything had been well explained. It may also have helped that I read The Time Traveller's Wife! It was great to see all the aside clues, such as Des in the army, following scenes which showed him passing by the recruiting station in earlier episodes.
Also a lovely end to the episode, with Penny and Desmond making contact. Those two are the key couple behind Lost, so I always enjoy Penny/Desmond screen-time.
It was also a good idea to have Sayid there with Desmond, as their relationship is largely unexplored but quite solid, so obviously Sayid was an ideal person to have on that boat.
Daniel's ending was also thought-provoking.
The episode focused mostly on Sid and his family. Last season I didn't like his dad, Mark, at all, but this episode made me change my mind as we really got to see how much Mark has had to face with his own horrible father, and how close the bond is between Sid and Mark. There were some very touching parenting moments in this ep and you could see that Mark truly does care for Sid.
I also liked Sid's mum, a character who managed both comedy and emotion. It was sad that she wasn't there for Sid in the later half of this episode though.
The two minutes we had of Cassie were great. She has been sorely lacking this season. The ending was quite typical but hopefully it means we'll get more Cassie soon.
Sketch was great in her new role as the cynical girlfriend of Anwar. She pulled-off her one-liners brilliantly.
Mark's death was so sudden and unexpected I couldn't quite believe it.
Maura's acting was just amazing. I loved drunk Abby at the bar - it seemed so realistic. And the scene when she came home to the babysitter really struck a chord too. We really got a full range of emotions this episode.
Obviously Morris failed, but how can he keep it a secret? Surely the hospital i.e. Moretti finds out his score?
I like the potential new BF of Sam. However, I don't really like her two-timing two men, it's out of character. ER seems to have a history of making characters multiple date at once for not much good reason (Greene and Elizabeth spring to mind).
The bar scene was really nice. It was good to see everyone hanging out in a sociable setting. There were also so many one-liners and in-jokes and side-jokes this episode that I can't really count them.
So annoyed at how they're wasting Harold. I thought he showed such promise in his first ep, and ever since then it has been just down-hill.
Likewise, I want Neela to get some really gritty surgery storylines any time soon...
I'm quite pissed off about Abby/Moretti. The storyline doesn't really do either of them any favours. Personally I haven't really seen any chemistry there at all. Sure, Abby could have got drunk and slept with someone, but did it have to be Moretti? Also, it paints him in such a bad light. Sure he may not know she is an alcoholic, but he has seen how much she has been struggling recently, he saw just how drunk and unlike herself she was and it seems he really took advantage of her. He is painted as such a rational figure that him sleeping with a completely wasted woman doesn't feel like ignorance on his part. On the other hand, we didn't exactly get to see the actual build-up to her going home with him, so I don't know how unfair my reaction is, as Abby could have been equally to blame. Which pretty much means that I'm just annoyed at the ER writers!!! Cause I guess Moretti did obviously think Abby was maybe just having marriage problems, and then she did raise the subject of his flirting, potentially suggesting she wasn't impartial to it...
Hope and Morris broke-up? I assume this is because the actress has left the show? Feels like the 101 scenes regarding Morris and women in the last few episodes were kind of pointless for him. Interesting to see where his future romance life will go. Hope worked for him quite well last season, but I don't just want to see Morris and Pratt shoved into comfortable mature 'I'm a settled adult' relationships to highlight character development.
I think the baby's illness and Morris' comment about Abby's tutoring were a little OTT. They were both clearly included in the episode so we could all watch and see just how amazing a doc Abby is, and how sad it is she is having problems yada yada yada. It wasn't necessary for us to see Abby shine medically for us to empathise with the character though, and I don't think she would be so competent on the job when she's clearly drinking constantly now.
I wonder if the ending means that we'll see Abby in Croatia next ep? Or more likely we'll have a couple with her missing? Unless there is a time jump.
Interesting that they chose to use a big situation - city-wide power-cuts, in an episode where they didn't play a huge part. The episode so revolved around Abby and we didn't get an idea of the medical consequences of the power cuts. It was more used to aide the social storylines. Normally this would provide a host of episode material in the form of patients and hospital disasters, but there was so much going on already that it became quite irrelevant.
Loved the happy singing volunteers.
Gates and Chaplin mildly interesting. Quite predictable route to go down but I think the romance will be good for his character.

Weeds He Taught Me How To Drive By Avg Score: 9.17 Total Ratings: 171 Total Reviews: 8 |
For me the best scene of the episode was Isabel's sneaky revenge on Shane. I absolutely cracked up when Isabel moved her hand down Amelia, only for Amelia to move it back up. The narrow-minded ultra-religious school has actually provided quite a few good jokes. I also liked Shane's response to the boys beating him up 'If I say I love Jesus as the son then that makes me gay'.
Andy was quite under-used this episode but he also got a few good lines.
Interesting to see Doug lead the council members as he did; I guess however corrupt an individual or group are, the majority nearly always wins. Celia joined them in their corruption and yet still can't win.
I so didn't predict the ending of the episode though. I know it will prove for some interesting relationship dynamics in future episodes, but I hadn't realised Nancy was at all interested in Sullivan. Of course they will be able to drag out the storyline with her dead husband a little longer too, not that Nancy is strictly to blame.
