In case you are wondering, it says 'black sheep' in Japanese.

I Wonder if Anyone is Still Tracking My Blog?

I am still alive. I've been spending time on the Avatar Refuge site. There's a fun contest going on over there to get us in the mood for the grand finale.

Other than that, life is okay. Since I last posted here, I found out I have Lyme Disease. That explains why I was feeling so bad this past winter. I've been taking antibiotics for two months now and I'm starting IV antibiotics tomorrow. Lyme is really hard to get rid of once it's in your system for a long time.

My grandma's house in WV - the house I grew up in - got flooded several weeks ago. I spent some time up there helping them clean up. She didn't have insurance, but FEMA helped her out with some of the expense.

My garden is doing pretty good. I'm disappointed in my zuccinis. They are not nearly as productive as last year. I planted tomatos this year and they are growing like crazy.

Thats all for now. If anyone is interested in the Avatar Refuge site, let me know and I'll hook you up with the right info.

Take care!

Today's My 1 Year Anniversary!!!!

I kept thinking earlier... "Why does April 24th ring a bell? Was I supposed to do something today?" And then all of a sudden... DING DONG! It's the date in my little box over here -->

No wonder it seemed familiar.

So here's my attempt at throwing a blog party....

I stepped into a black hole this morning.

Seriously. I don't know what in the world happened. I woke up at 7:45. Took a shower and then woke my daughter up to get ready for school. I looked at the clock and it was 8:38 as we were heading out the door. When I got her to school (literally just around the block, takes like 2 minutes to drive there) I went to sign her in at the office and the clock read 9:50. WTH? Where did the hour go. I am still kinda freaking out about this. I even went back home to check the clocks to see if they were an hour slow, but they matched the school's time. I am just baffled.

Vrrooommm....

Good news!!
I am happy to report that my team lead has moved to another project! She was a good programmer and self-motivated, but her and I didn't click very well as a team. We had the opposite of synergy - I'll call it drainergy just because I feel like it.

Not so Good News..
The folks I work for (in a round about way) had nearly forgotten about the project we've been working on, but when they heard she was leaving it sparked their memories. Now they have moved the completion date waaay forward. So basically the amount of work that used to be distributed between her and I that was to be completed by December is now all on me and must be done months earlier. I haven't heard a solid date or plan just yet, but I can tell it's not gonna be pretty. Oh well, I guess it's all a matter of motivation anyways.

Other news...
I've been submitting stuff. Yeah, weird, I know. But it's kind of fun once you get started.

I'm almost finished with Kodocha. I think I'm on episode 90 out of 102. Only a few more to go. I think the major story line is already pretty much wrapped up at this point though. I am actually getting used to watching with subtitles. I'm able to catch some of the really common phrases in Japanese now, and I'm not even trying to learn it. I do think it's a nice sounding language though.

Anyone have any recommendations for what anime to watch next?

Magic Wand Needed...

My van is a magnet for other vehicles. I have had it for less than two years. Bought it brand new after driving a clunker for years just waiting for the chance to buy 'the car' I really, really wanted. Less than a month after driving off the lot, I got rear ended. I was sitting still at a red light and a guy just rammed into the back of me. He claimed that someone hit him and pushed him into me and then ran away. Consequently, I ended up paying for some of the damage out of my own pocket because it had to be turned in under the 'uninsured motorist'clause on my insurance policy so I got stuck with a deductible.

Two months ago while I was in WV for my grandfather's funeral, my van was parked in my grandma's driveway and my uncle backed into the front quarter panel. At least that time I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket since his insurance covered it, but still it is a huge inconvenience having to leave work several times to take care of the repairs.

Finally, just yesterday, I was at the local recycling center trying to do something good for the environment, and this guy cut too sharp going around me (while I was parked) and swiped the front corner. He wants to pay out of pocket, which is fine with me, but now I have to go though the trouble of taking it to get it repaired again.

This makes three times my van has been hit. All three while it was standing still. I have frequent flyer miles at the local body shop. Has anyone else had their car damaged this many times or is it just me? Is my van cursed? I waited for so long to take the plunge on a new car. Am I doing something to attract this type of 'attention'?

Anyway, happy monday to you all. Now I'm off to the repair shop for my lunch break - trying my best to keep a positive attitude.

The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00

I love the Haruhi Suzumiya series, and I highly recommend watching it, but whatever you do, don't watch this episode first. I unknowingly did just that and I almost didn't continue with rest of the series at that point. If I had quit there, it would have been a terrible shame because Haruhi Suzumiya is now one of my all-time favorite animes. This 00 episode is not really an episode. It is meant to be a school project that is created by the main characters in the story. If watched in that context, and after you know the personalities and circumstances of the characters, it is actually really funny. However, from the numbering scheme and broadcast order of the episodes it seems like this should be the first episode. Not true. It is actually the 11th episode chronologically, and makes no sense what so ever when watched first. I guess it can all be rationalized in Haruhi's world because she prefers things to be abnormal.

'The Awakening' was far from the best episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but everything in the episode was needed to transition the show into it's next phase.

Basically, Aang wakes up several weeks after being 'nearly' killed by Azula and finds they are on a hijacked fire nation ship with the Southern Water Tribe warriors. He struggles with failure and then decides to keep going. In the meantime, Zuko figures out Azula's alterior motives. She is trying to frame him for letting the Avatar live. Azula will stop at nothing until she is the ruler of the world.

Also, Katara comes to terms with her father abandoning her and Sokka to go fight in the war.

Like I said, nothing amazing in this episode, but the plot needed a transition.

Avatar: The Last Airbender
The Headband
Avg Score: 9.47    Total Ratings: 484    Total Reviews: 100
The Zuko/Mai scene was in my opinion just fabulous. The way he told Azula "Can't you see we're busy" was the sanest thing Zuko has ever said to Azula. I am not a fan of 'ships' in general, but it is obvious that these two characters are much more mature than the majority of the others in the show and they have a long hisory together. I'm going to guess from the comments made during the ASN interview that Zuko and Mai have been engaged since birth. No wonder Mai was always so miserable - her sweetie was sent away on a "fools errand" for an undetermined amount of time and she had no idea when she would see him again. Also, the Mai/Zuko relationship adds another dimention to the Zuko/Azula conflict because Mai is one of Azula's sidekicks. Ty Lee never seemed all that faithful totheir leader, and now Mai is following suit. I think in the end Azula'sdownfall will beTy Lee and Maiturning on her. Imagine Ty Lee blocking Azula's chi andMai pinning her to a tree!

The whole 'dance party' thing was kinda corny, but made for some light hearted fun. Aang and Katara's dance was waaaay exhaggerated, but I won't complain about that either. I think if they would have left out some of the acrobatics and flips it would have been much more convincing. Katara has never-ever shown an ability to do mid-air flips in the past so it did seem a little over the top for her.

Sokka and Katara dressed up as Aang's parents was hilarious. All of the kids with the headband is straight out of the movie 'V for Vendetta' which I loved. Other than that, all of the Kataang fans can stand up and cheer for 'The Headband'.

The Blue Spirit is one of my alltime favorite episodes. Aang and Zuko fighting off the fire nation guards as a team was awesome! I really hope Zuko ends up on the good side in Season three so we can see some more of this team. I also liked the herbalist - she was so funny with her wacky frog remedy. Momo trying to interpret Katara's language was really cute too. Of course who can forget the cutest kitty name ever - Miyouki! The half frozen frogs hopping all Admiral Zhaou were cute as well - not to mention tasty!

About Me

ShinyBlackSheep
Something about me, let's see... Well I am a 30 year old female. I'm a fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender and anime in general. Getting more and more anime addicted every day. I like to play games - word games, number games, forum games, etc. I like to find ways to turn my blogs into games. Why the name ShinyBlackSheep you ask? Well, I do consider myself a bit of a black sheep. I don't seem to fit into any one group no matter what. I'm not normal enough to be normal and not weird enough to be weird. I've come to accept my blacksheepiness though and I consider it one of my greatest assets. Feel free to track my blog - anyone who does gets a bag of shiny, black wool.

This is my first attempt at making an AMV; my first time using Movie Maker as well. It is probably not the best there is.
