E3 2008: Day One, Blog Two

Well, end of the day, time for another useless post where I look back upon it.

First up is the Too Human demo. I really want to like it...I think I just need more time with it. There's a lot of cutscenes for just a demo...using the right thumbstick for combat took me a long time to get used to. I think I need more time with it. The sliding system really helps, because often I've found myself caught in a group of enemies all hacking away at me with not much of a chance to defend myself. Maybe a third playthrough will win me over...trust me, I really want to like this game. The graphics are very nice, and overall it seems extremely promising. I might be able to get it with the help of my parents...along with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts...

Now for the only non-Xbox 360 related item in this post, the Wii MotionPlus attachment! Um...does anyone else think that this just screams for a new Zelda Wii announcement tomorrow? I'll admit I might be a little disappointed if we don't get a new Zelda announcement, but on the other hand I'm satisfied with what we have already. Anyway, since the MotionPlus promises true 1:1 functionality, maybe we can get a real Lightsaber game on our hands - Jedi Knight III, anyone? Or perhaps that new Clone Wars game will use it? Oh, I spotted somewhere on IGN that Wii Music might show up at E3 - that definitely calls for MotionPlus support.
On Nintendo's front...unless they announce something like Pikmin, Star Fox, Kirby, or F-Zero for Wii...the only thing I'm even remotely looking forward to is Kirby Superstar Ultra...

Alright, back to the 360.
First up is the Netflix support - I'm way more excited for this than you might think. After I learned about movies on the Marketplace, I got worried. Paying points for rentals, essentially...points are hard enough to come by for someone like me. Since my dad has a Netflix account, I'm able to watch movies on my 360 at no extra cost. I'm happy about that, because that means I can use my points on DLC instead.
And, of course, there were announcements that I was less than happy about. Avatars. As if they didn't look like they were ripped off of Miis to begin with, I heard in the presentation the word "channels" being used to describe what was once blades. Wow. Is Microsoft really trying to rip off Nintendo here? Where did this whole casual gaming thing come from (Lips, You're In The Movies, Scene It 2, Avatars)?
And as for the dashboard remake...why? I'm fine with the dashboard as it is now, the only problem I have is that the Marketplace has gotten very disorganized; a simple clean-up job would have made me happy. But a complete overhaul? Um...no. Honestly I'm not that excited about it. The blades, in my opinion, were unique, and these new "channels"...ew.

...Well, the good news is that I wasn't entirely disappointed by the conference. The Portal: Still Alive announcement got me excited. It would be really cool if Portal was put up for download on the 360, but, not much I can do about that. Also, I'm excited for Rock Band 2 in general, and I'm glad to see Judas Priest, Metallica, and AC/DC show up in there.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. Wait...didn't I already talk about it? Yes. Yes I did.
I would have bought the game even if it didn't have anything to do with platforming. Why, you ask? Because I'm a diehard Lego fan, and the vehicle customization heavily reminds me of that. So many possibilities...
But I'd really like a solid release date. Please.
Also I'm hearing things that the Banjo-Kazooie XBLM release will feature the oft-mentioned Stop 'n Swop feature, except with NAB instead of Tooie (heh). Apparently after doing things in BK you can unlock things (new vehicle parts?) in NAB. Hmmm...just another incentive I guess.

I guess that wraps it up for today. Sorry about being so...generic.

E3 2008: Day One, Blog One

Although I watched the Microsoft press conference, I have a bad feeling I won't be getting the emblem. Due to the "unexpected" server crash, I had to keep fighting to get in, and it wasn't until they were showing off Resident Evil 5. I really hope I'd be getting the emblem, perhaps out of GameSpot's mercy due to their own technical errors uncontrollable by us users, but......one can hope.

To me, most of the Microsoft press conference pretty much consisted of them owning Sony while showing off some of their high-profile games. Needless to say that Final Fantasy XIII coming to the 360 made the crowd go absolutely nuts.

While it was funny and all, and it's good to see that Microsoft has a lot of great-looking games coming, I didn't see what I wanted to see.
We got a brief trailer for Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, but...no stage demo? No downloadable demo? (One can always hope!) Not even a release date? Well, the original hitting XBLM around the same time is nice, but...how long do I really have to wait?

Where the hell was LucasArts? The other game I really want is obviously Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, but...nothing at all. Gah.

Not to mention Bungie's promise of a big reveal was delayed to Wednesday...and no mention of Halo Wars nor Halo Chronicles...*sigh*

Hopefully I'll get what I want later on. Lol.

...did I promise reviews of a few movies and perhaps a game? I'm sorry. I've been really busy, not to mention I have another writer's block...they're gonna have to wait. Oh well.

Wanted: Brave Souls To Help Me With Cortana On Legendary In Halo 3.

I know, I know: you hate the level. I hate doing the level by myself. So, let's work together here: ideally I'd like to have four of us to run through it, as it will be much faster with four people shooting things as opposed to two people. Makes sense, right? I'm -so close- to getting Halo 3 finished on Legendary, but Lord knows that I don't think I can do it alone.

I don't care how good or bad you are, if we could get four of us to do this it WILL go by easy.

Leave a comment and we'll decide a time that works for everyone.

A real blog post will come either today or tomorrow, with reviews of Hancock, WALL-E, and potentially a full game review...

Cold Storage FREE on Bungie Day!!

I'm in a really good mood right now.

Bungie's been teasing us with a new map called Cold Storage, a remake of Halo CE's Chill Out, and recently they've been teasing us...a lot. Over the last couple of weeks we've seen screenshots, videos, overhead maps, even coverage of a 4-game Humpday challenge. It was inevitable that Bungie would be blowing off the lid of just when we'd be getting this map. Not to mention, Bungie has repeatedly said that this year's Bungie Day (July 7) would be big.

Starting July 7 (Bungie Day), Cold Storage is free to download.

And that's not all! For July 7 only, there will be exclusive themes and gamerpics to download, and starting July 7, the Legendary Map Pack will cost 600 Microsoft Points.

So yeah. Needless to say I'm going to try to get my hands on a points card as soon as possible. If I could get four new Halo maps in one day...ah, that would be bliss.

Also on Bungie Day, there will be a 48-hour seven-player FFA playlist. Perhaps getting that darned Overkill achievement might be a little bit easier.

In other news, as meleeman would tell you, I've been playing Halo 3 a lot. I managed to get the Mongoose Mowdown achievement out of 100% luck (vid's on my fileshare if you want to see). I was really excited about it. Unfortunately, deep down I think I will have no chance whatsoever at getting most, if not all, of the rest of the multiplayer achievements; i.e. Overkill, Triple Kill (yeah I'm terrible), Killing Frenzy, Two For One, Maybe Next Time Buddy, and the dreaded Steppin' Razor. Lord knows I'll keep trying, though....maybe the Bungie Day playlist will help with a couple of them...

While we're still on the subject of Halo in this Halo-overloaded blog post, I'd like to file a complaint. I have a fair amount of people on my friends list from GameSpot here, but to be honest I've only played with meleeman so far. I fully understand if you're busy...but at least send a message or something...I keep forgetting who's who between GS and Live.
So yeah...let's play sometime! Especially since everyone's trying to hit 7 billion kills by Monday!!

Hmm...is there anything else on Halo I could talk about? Hmm...I guess not.

As for my physical progress, they say I'm doing great. I haven't felt much pain in my mouth since before Monday. I had a checkup back on Monday, and I only lost three pounds during the first week. It might be another three pounds for my next checkup on Monday, who knows. So yeah, I've been able to try to maintain a regular weight better than others. Also, I'm getting the splints in my mouth removed next week, so perhaps I might be able to start chewing food again. I can't wait.
I'm doing great, although they say it could be months before the numbness around my mouth goes away...months before I can feel when my beautiful girlfriend kisses me..............er...keeekeekee.

In the most awkward transition ever, I've hit something of a Digimon preferation. I might be able to talk my sister into finding me a copy of Digimon World DS, to help better pass the time (and to help get my mind off of Halo, as you guys by now think I undoubtedly need). I'm not quite sure why I still like Digimon...I don't really have a reason not to like it...oh well. Keeps my mind busy, at least. Also, don't worry, I'm not going to talk about Digimon religiously to any of you. Not like Halo at least.

I was unsuccessful in having my parents get me a new game. Why? Because they got me something much better: a brand new cell phone. It doesn't have a nickname, but it's by Samsung and it slides open, it's blue, and it has a gorgeous screen. My sister got one like it too, except her's is green. Everyone in the family is now on the same plan: unlimited text, unlimited minutes after 9PM, 100 minutes a month from 6AM-9PM...it's all good.
I absolutely adore my new phone.

I think you guys have heard enough about Halo for a while. That's all for now!

The surgery was a success! WORLD OF MISERY

For the six of you still living under a rock, I underwent double jaw surgery yesterday. What they did was break my lower jaw, then moving it forward one centimeter and to the right for less than half a centimeter. Then they cut up a few parts of my upper jaw and realigned it.
And after the six-hour surgery, I woke up shivering. It was freezing. I think I got sick from that, to be honest.
At least my room was incredible. It wasn't a regular hospital room; it was a hospital suite. Three plasma screen TVs, one of them 52", freezer, fridge, special lighting effects, Xbox 360 (shame that their copy of Lego Star Wars didn't work), even two computers. If I was in there for something else, it would have been paradise.
I'm starting to regret going through with the surgery. It's absolutely miserable with what I have to go through. I can't even swallow properly yet. I've swelled up so much, I look like a fat frog. And it all...freaking...hurts!!!

They say that it will take six to eight weeks before I recover fully. These first few days are going to be absolute hell, and yep, they are. This...is...not...fun.

So...it's time to...RECOMMEND A NEW GAME!
Preferably a new Xbox 360 game. I might be able to sucker my family into letting me get a new game.
I've been thinking about the Orange Box, seeing as I really like Portal, plus with Live I could get some use out of Team Fortress 2. Oh, and that Half-Life 2 thingy that everyone seems to like.
I've also been thinking about Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, just because it's Lego Star Wars (and on 360!), or perhaps Mass Effect, mostly because BioWare made it.
Of course, any and every game is open for suggestion. So, recommend away! I need to keep my mind off the pain!

Meleeman, gameman, and anyone else - I might be on Halo tomorrow, ready to play some more campaign, although for obvious reasons I won't be speaking. But maybe.

It hurtssss

Tales from the Crypt

This show was a great one. It either mixed horror and humor, gore and drama, or anything with the mix of science-fiction, horror, humor, gory, unusual, etc. With mainly different actors and directors for each episode, minus the Crypt Keeper himself of course, this show was almost never the same, in a good way. There was no central plot, just something great to watch. Some episodes can leave you on the edge of your seat, others just make you try to think what just happened. Either way, this is a great show. Even though it's been virtually off the air for nine years, even though it started a couple years before I was born, I still love this show. I'm glad we're getting a DVD release of the first season, and hopefully DVD releases of the others.
But looking at *some* of today's shows, I wouldn't want any new episodes. I could watch all the classic episodes and never get bored of them.
Now on to the Crypt Keeper. This guy is just hilarious! John Kassir has the perfect voice for the perfect horror show host.
I would recommend Tales from the Crypt to any TV fan.
