Avatar: The Last Airbender The Blue Spirit Avg Score: 9.60 Total Ratings: 654 Total Reviews: 120 |
Out of all the episodes in the Water book, there aren't many others that are as good as this one. This episode is truly one of the best in the series. It was extremely touching to see Aang save Zuko, knowing Zuko had just helped him out. Of course, we know of Zuko's motives, but it was still really engaging. Aang was outstanding in this episode, I was really surprised when Aang asked Zuko if they could be friends after Zuko woke up after being attacked. Zuko then tried to attack Aang, but Aang got away. That was one of my very favorite Avatar moments. Of course, every good episode of Avatar has a little bit of everything, and The Blue Spirit had it all. It was full of action, adventure, drama, and even had its funny moments despite being a rather serious and highly epic episode. Character development was also big in this episode. Another thing I really enjoyed was the music. Normally, I don't usually recognize the music, or it doesn't capture my attention, but it worked wonders in The Blue Spirit. It really helped to capture the mood of the episode. If there's any must-see episode of Avatar that's from Book 1, it's gotta be The Blue Spirit. Yet of course, there are many other great episodes too.

Avatar: The Last Airbender The Storm Avg Score: 9.47 Total Ratings: 559 Total Reviews: 94 |
The Storm is a very revealing episode, and its main focus is put on Aang and Zuko's past. The episode is quite sad in that we see just how Zuko got his scar, as well as his bad attitude. Aang's past is also very interesting, as well as very sad. Aang feels like he abandoned his people, and that if he hadn't have left, he could have prevented the death of his people. Katara tells Aang that he gives people hope, and meanwhile, Iroh tells Zuko's crew that the Avatar gives Zuko hope. That's just a really interesting connection there. This episode is really great. It's deep, revealing, emotional, interesting, and even a little bit funny too.

Avatar: The Last Airbender The Great Divide Avg Score: 8.36 Total Ratings: 528 Total Reviews: 73 |
This is the least appreciated episode of Avatar the Last Airbender for some understandable reasons, yet I however, liked it okay.
Aang has to guide two different tribes through a canyon, but the problem is, the two tribes have been feuding for over a hundred years. The first tribe, the Gan Jins, are clean, and have a lot of old people who need to get out of the canyon. The other tribe, the Zhangs, are not very clean and have many sick people. The two tribes hate each other because of what happened in the past between Jin Wei (a Gan Jin), and Wei Jin (a Zhang). The problem is, both tribes tell a different story. Katara ends up siding with Gan Jins and Sokka ends up siding with the Zhangs, and even the both of them get involved in the argument. Later on, Aang tells a big lie about the past between Jin Wei and Wei Jin. Here's where it gets a little awkward though: the two tribes actually believe Aang after he told the two tribes that Jin Wei and Wei Jin were little kid brothers who were just playing a game called "Redemption."
I just never really cared for that plot, because Aang could have just told them from the beginning and there wouldn't have been a problem. I don't know... the story was just really awkward. Yet, I still enjoyed the episode. It was interesting at least.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Jet Avg Score: 8.86 Total Ratings: 527 Total Reviews: 68 |
This episode seems a bit under appreciated. I can't say it was the best, but I liked it quite a lot. Jet's a cool character, but he needs a lot of help. Sokka really shined in this episode, for it was he who saw what Jet truly was. Katara falling in love with Jet was interesting. Later on she realizes Sokka was right, and she gives Jet a little piece of her mind. I love the large amount of action in this episode. Sokka saving the people was somewhat predictable, but I enjoyed how it all turned out. This is a great episode for the development of both Katara and Sokka. I kinda missed Jet after this episode, and I always wondered if he had or would change. Well, I actually got to find out later on in the series. ^_^

Avatar: The Last Airbender The Waterbending Scroll Avg Score: 9.17 Total Ratings: 493 Total Reviews: 58 |
I never expected Katara to be a thief. I also didn't expect her to ever yell at Aang. Maybe I like this episode so much because it surprised me. Katara steals a Waterbending scroll so she and Aang can learn more Waterbending. But it turns out, she's mostly just interested in teaching herself. She acted very competitive towards Aang, and got a bit upset when he mastered moves that she either couldn't do, or spent much time just to master. After Katara yelled at Aang, it seemed like she learned her lesson. But she didn't. At night when everyone was sleeping, she took the scroll and started practicing, even after she said she was done with it. Well, she got what she deserved- being captured by Zuko. Luckily, Aang and Sokka came to her rescue (Momo too!) and it resulted in an all out brawl between Prince Zuko, the Aang gang, and the Pirates whose scroll was stolen by Katara. The fight was exciting yet somewhat comical as Zuko's boat was stolen. Ah well, this episode marks the first and only time Zuko has ever laughed. :P
In the end, Katara gets her scroll back, but I think she certainly learned a great lesson. At least, that's what one of the much later episodes "The Runaway" seems to imply. I really liked the character development in this episode, and it was just really fun to watch.
