The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Mike Huckabee; Emeril Lagasse; Chingy Avg Score: 7.64 Total Ratings: 5 Total Reviews: 1 Users who agree: 2 |
I was a fan of Johnny Carson, but when Jay Leno took over, I drifted away. I usually only tune in on Monday nights for Headlines now. Frankly, I've found him extremely not-funny and very forced.
So tonight I tuned in to gleefully see him fall on his face without his writers, but to my surprise that did not happen. Jay was actually funny for a change!
His jokes were quite honest, more natural and less contrived, which I always tend to find more funny. His interaction with the audience after the monologue was great, because it showed a natural sense of comedy and ease with the audience that I've never seen in him before. In the past, it was quite obvious audience members were prepicked and given a specific question to ask for Jay to respond with a pre-written answer. The only funny thing about these conversations was when audience members screwed up their question and Jay gave them trouble over it.
If Jay can continue with this type of show, I will keep watching. If the writers come back, and it's more of the same-old, then I'll be back to Monday's Headlines-only again.

Las Vegas Junk In The Trunk Avg Score: 8.79 Total Ratings: 112 Total Reviews: 7 Users who agree: 4 Users who disagree: 1 |
This was the worst episode of Las Vegas I have ever seen. To me it seems clear that this is the beginning of the end of my favorite show. It seemed as if each of the characters were redrawn last night to recreate the show and allow certain ones to depart.
Sam was on a new low: attemping to con Ed; considering a marriage proposal strictly for monetary gain; and treating her newfound employees as trash. This coming after weeks of character build-up: her years of visiting the man in the coma; and her refusal to take millions for sex. (There are several other instances I'd mention, but they go back a bit too much)
Ed putting a camera IN his daughter's home with anywhere access to the feed... This is just plain creepy. I could have pictured him monitoring the outside of their building... perhaps, and even placing bodyguards on her, but not this. Sweet Mary, who is experiencing terrifying bouts of fear and who can't even stand for people to touch her, has gathered up the courage to buy a gun and blow her Daddy away. NBC wanted her gone, but can't they just find a nice way for her to leave town? Do they have to end her character as a murderer?

Tom Cruise Avg Score: 6.98 Total Ratings: 279 Total Reviews: 48 Users who agree: 5 Users who disagree: 1 |
I find it humorous that after a year of showing the world who he, Tom Cruise, really is--from the jumping, to the bashing of Brooke Shields and Matt Lauer, and to demanding that his pregnant girlfriend remain silent during birth he appears to be doing a quick turn-around after loosing his studio contract.
I suspect that his deal with a new studio was contingent upon his making certain amends, the primary one of which, of course, to be Brooke Shields. Within a relatively short period after making the deal, we hear from Brooke that he has already done that, and done so profoundly and personally.
I think we'll still see the arrogant Cruise from time to time, I doubt he will be able to resist letting the rest of the world know why he's right and everyone else is wrong.
I wanted to see MI3, but refused soley based on his presence in it. No matter what he does now, it no longer matters to me, I am not interested.

Martha Rob Estes and Orlando Jones Avg Score: 10.00 Total Ratings: 3 Total Reviews: 2 |
Marth's April Fools Show... I didn't always get to see Martha's old Living show, but I always tried to catch it on April Fools day, as she always has a lot of fun poking at her own image--and often does so even better than her critics ever could.
The "Coming Up Later on Martha" segments were probably the best, including one on how to make your trash look nice, which featured a trash can full of beautifully wrapped trash!
I suspect, though that a few viewers might go out looking for her new Glitter magazine and may even try glittering a chair, which turned out surprisingly nice!
The Cooking School lesson on Charring things to a black crisp, with a sink full of dirty dishes and bugs rounded out the episode quite nicely!
April Fools Day is a Good Thing!

The Apprentice One Hit Blunder Avg Score: 6.69 Total Ratings: 27 Total Reviews: 2 Users who agree: 2 Users who disagree: 1 |
This task involved the teams finding new musical talent and writing a song to be played on a Satellite radio station.
I have two basic issues with this episode. First, what relevance does writing music have to do with working for Donald Trump? Writing music is not an easy task, even professionals, who have sold millions of records, frequently don't do it well.
My second issue was with how they were judged: by callers who heard it on the radio. People who call into radio shows are generally a very small percentage of those listening and are often representing only the most extreme love/hate opinions. Also, how were they screened and how many calls were taken?
Overall, it did not seem like a fair task for people vying to be executives in Donald Trump's company, as I bet few of them already there could have done better.
While each episode has a sponsoring product, usually I can see some relevance in the task... To me, this episode was solely used to showcase the Satellite radio station and not much else.
