Boy times change

Having bought the Dallas DVD. Before you say anything, I was a big lover of all this soap drama that came out in the 80's. It was must viewing and I have fond memories of JR and his no good ways. It's one that remains in my head as a cult classic.

It's amazing that only a decade or less ago, we had to little in terms of technology. From briefcase sized mobile phones, to the memorable dial telephones. Just listening to one of the Ewing's telling Ms Ellie that she couldn't move the phone out of the room, is just humourous.

By todays standards we can use handheld phones that sit in cradles and can be switched off or put on silent. It just amazes me how quickly we've come from the 80's.

I love Dallas, not only for wasting my childhood with playground natter as to who killed JR, but also to revel in the non technological era compared to what we have now.

Brimstone episode 6

Being a firm fan of the show, I recently saw episode 6 of Brimstone where a Nazi collaborator is one of the 113 escapees from hell.

We are led to believe that this man has been terrorising the neighbourhood by ripping out the eyes of his homeless victims. Even more so when a witness sees the man hovering over the body.

What I love about this show is that it does not matter what you do in life, if you've wronged, you get on the express elevator to hell.

This escapee though is different. He listens to music and relishes selected food items, as if tasting it for the first time. He loves, rather than hates. He reads poetry.

But he still manages to batter Stone to stay on Earth.

There is a legend floating around the community about someone who appears not very often, but when they do they help people. Stone feels that the community is protecting this man, even though he may be behind the deaths of the homeless victims.

What makes this show great is the fact that we believe that because he is from hell he is obviously guilty of the crime. But it turns out that he is there to find the culprit.

The beauty of this show happens in the last remaining scenes with Stone and this escapee.

The beautiful poetry and the undeniable truth that no matter where he goes, it will never be enough to purge his sins of his former life.

He therefore goes willingly back to hell, even though Stone does not want to send him back.

But that's not all, the devil is none to happy with Stone because for the first time Stone feels no remorse for sending him to hell.

Writing at it's best.

A-Team??

Having woken up with a little cheeky sleep in, I come to my TV first thing.

What's the first thing I do? Channel hop. I settle on a reality tv show called Big Brother, but nothing much is happening, so I channel hop once more.

Something catches my eye. Some dude has written a song called Bad, Bad guys. Or something similar, and filmed a video A-Team fashion. But although this featured video is humourous, there is a lack of the Faceman. How could you forget the infamous Faceman? I understand if there were only 3 members of the singers, but another one put in for comedic purposes would have been just as good. Instead we have BA, Hannibal and HM Murdock.

All in all it was only a tongue in cheek version and I did find it quite witty. Well done to who ever made it. I only saw it attached to a WWE programme, and WWE is not my suit.

What is good about this episode and remains one of my firm favourites is that not everyone sent to hell is bad.

Unfortunately the rule of life is, if you wronged, you go to hell.

In this episode Martin Benedict is a bad man, from what we can see, like his desire to cut out newspaper clippings of each murder and pin them to his wall, using a rather large knife.

The removal of the eyes of the killers victims, another reason to think that the killer is collecting trophies for his cabinet or where ever a killer would keep his eyes.

The behaviour of Martin Benedict makes us believe that yes we have the killer. He should be bought to justice, shoot him in the eyes and send him back where he belongs.

But wait. When Benedict has the opportunity to kill Stone he does not.

Again we are shown Benedict at the scene of one of the latest victims and they are stabbed to death with a rather large knife.

When witness to one of the murders; a homeless drunk, is the target for the killer. Stone sets out to stop Benedict, but his path is cut short when another homeless man is killed, but his eyes are left intact. Why was his eyes not taken? It turns out that the homeless man had cataracts.

We know that any good Stone does, really peaves off the devil to a large degree. We see it first when Stone gives money to a poor man begging for change. But in a twist it's the devil. He's not happy with Stone's act of kindness.

Then when Stone shows compasion for one of the escapees. He is left with the decision to either let the man go, or send him back to hell.

The ending for this episode for me, is one of beauty and of pain, on Stone's part for his reluctance to condemn a man to hell, and on Benedict's part for trying to do good but knowing in the end it will never be enough.
