knights!

Last night I went to the midnight showing of The Dark Knight (for those of you who live under a rock, the new Batman movie). All I have to say is that it is marvelously epic and everyone should go see it! I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

I haven't been gaming much in the past few days because I've been busy with work and other things, but today while my Internet was down for a couple of hours, I did start playing KOTOR again... it's just so irresistible! I'm trying a character build I've always wanted to try but shied away from because people said it would be too hard, but so far I'm having a good time of it. I chose a scoundrel base for my character, boosted up the intelligence and charisma stats, and started by taking feats that boost my character's skills. She's not so hot at combat, but her skills are out of this world, and it gives you a lot more options to play around with in the game. I'll report more later.

I've started watching The X-Files again in preparation for the glory that will be the X-Files movie next weekend... it better be good, or I am going to be super disappointed! Other than that, I'm working, preparing to move out, reading a fascinating book by Poppy Z. Brite called Exquisite Corpse (look it up if you're not squeamish) and generally just having fun living. I will write more later when there is more to say!

so many games, so little time...

Well, I'm back, and gaming harder than ever! Here's an update.

World of Warcraft: My warlock is level 62 and climbing at a relatively steady rate. She is really the only character I have put extensive time into, although the next character I would like to concentrate on is my priest. I have one character of each class spread across Alliance and Horde, most just sitting and gaining glorious rested XP while I fight through the Outlands. My tailoring is almost maxed out, my enchanting is close to 300, and I also acquired my "free" epic mount (the quest was heinous, and still cost about the price of an epic mount anyway). It would be hard for WoW to be better, really... unless Alli came and played her druid again and got her up to 70 with my lock!

Lego Indiana Jones: I have been two levels from the end of this game for a couple of weeks now. It's not that I don't like the game, it's just that I keep getting distracted by other things. This is the best Lego game installment yet, in my opinion, and I will make that known in a review once I explore the game a bit more (even though I'm almost at the end, there are a lot of special features to explore).

Sonic Riders: Okay, I've kind of been ignoring this one on purpose. It's entertaining at times and the concept is fun, but the execution falls flat. The gameplay is lackluster and almost annoying, making it difficult to get through levels that should really be a piece of cake for anyone at even a mediocre gaming level... still, I will eventually muscle through it and write a review.

American McGee's Alice: I've only played the first level of this game so far, but I like it already. If you thought Wonderland was messed up in the book or in the Disney movie... play this game! This is like Wonderland if Stephen King had gotten to it first. More input when I have more of the game under my belt.

Kingdom Hearts: Obviously, I have played Kingdom Hearts before, but it was such a joy and I've been wanting to play it again for ages. I took Sora's character build a different way than I did the first time, evening out his stats rather than just boosting his strength up to maximum, and I have noticed that the boss fights are going much more smoothly, although that could also be due to the fact that I have done them before and know the strategies (I have the guide, but I never read boss strategies in guides unless I get really, really hung up). I just beat the first Coliseum tournament and am now heading to Agrabah for fun and adventures with parrots and carpets and princesses, oh my!

So that's about it for me and gaming lately... I also finally managed to find a copy of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly! It was a sweet $40, but it's worth it, as I well know. Now all I need is the first one and I will be all caught up. I'm glad I found the second one, because it is the first one I want to play. Chronologically, it happens before the first one.

In real life news, I have only a couple of weeks until I move into my new apartment! I am very excited and have been buying cool stuff like towels and dishes, which for some odd reason I really enjoy. School starts in September, so I am ready for that... and I am head over heels for the guy I am with, so the only thing that would make my life better is actually getting hired at a decent job or maybe winning the lottery so I could just game and relax all the time. LoL Sorry I've been AFK for so long, but it's good to be back and I hope everything going on with you guys is good!

The best episode of The Tudors so far this season! The political intrigue intensifies as Henry decrees that all his subjects must take an oath. The oath will declare that only children Henry has with Anne are legitimate successors to the throne, and also that he is the true head of the English Church. Some important personages refuse to take the oath, and it is safe to say that the beheadings will begin soon. Henry also appoints Mary, his first daughter, to help care for Anne's daughter Elizabeth, denying any contact between her and her mother. Anne is forced to choose a mistress for her husband she can control while she is pregnant, much to her dismay. Everyone in this show has a hidden motive, and as tensions increase, the truth begins to bubble to the surface. It's sure to get much more exciting before the end of the season rolls around.

When the Internet goes down nationwide, Randy packs Stan and the family up to go to California, where the rumor is that they might have Internet. Meanwhile, after watching the news, Kyle thinks he knows the way to fix the Internet for everyone. This episode is such an accurate representation of what happens when the Internet goes down that it is scary. The mass scale of the epidemic only makes it funnier as life stops without the Internet, and we see that people feel they can only communicate with each other or satisfy certain... desires... through the Internet. South Park hits a homerun with this one.

Top Chef
Tailgating
Avg Score: 8.26    Total Ratings: 20    Total Reviews: 4
Most of the chefs were on top of their game after the heinous fight that occurred after last week's element challenge. This week's challenges were simple. For the Quickfire, chefs had to create a dish that went perfectly with a type of beer they chose. For the Elimination, they had to grill something delicious for a huge tailgate party. This Elimination challenge is one of those that allows the chef a lot of freedom, and most of the contestants took advantage of that. There were clear losers and clear winners, but I felt once again that the wrong person went home for this one. Not that the losing dish definitely didn't have its flaws, but how many basic mistakes can a chef make before they get the axe? More than three, apparently. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

South Park
Pink Eye

When South Park's local doctor mistakes a case of flesh-eating zombies for pinkeye, the entire town is quickly turned into a feast for the living dead, and only the boys can stop the epidemic. Hands down the best episode of the first season, this episode of South Park takes parody to new heights and does it in a fresh and funny manner. Cartman dresses up as Hitler Kenny dies multiple times, and we learn that there is a pay phone in South Park's graveyard (go figure) as South Park turns into your average horror movie from the 1980s. This is one you can't afford to miss.

Death
Avg Score: 8.64    Total Ratings: 255    Total Reviews: 23
Death comes to South Park to set the record straight when Stan's grandpa asks him to assist in his suicide when he turns 102. Meanwhile, Kyle's mother organizes the first of many protests against Terrance and Phillip, the hit Canadian TV show that relies on farts and swearing to get ratings. Stan attempts to find out whether assisted suicide is wrong while South Park parents sacrifice themselves for the well-being of their children. This episode is particularly clever since it deals with two separate controversial topics in a well-organized and concise manner, and also delivers some important messages, particularly about the content of TV, on the way.

About Me

VestalDarkness
I rarely watch TV anymore. I don't have much time and I hate commercials. I much prefer to re-watch old shows that I loved, such as Sliders and The X-Files, on DVD. There are some shows out there I'd like to see, and maybe I'll get around to it when the DVDs are cheap, but for now I am content. My other hobbies include playing video games, reading, writing, listening to music, watching movies, and learning anything and everything I can about vampires, paranormal phenomena, witches, Ancient Egypt, and Arthurian legend. I am a student moving towards being a college professor, but my true ambition is to be a well-known novelist.
Favorite Shows Include: South Park, Top Chef, The Tudors, The X-Files
