New Shows

Of the new shows I am watching Pushing Daisies is by far the best. I knew it would be good because I have enjoyed the creator's previous work (Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me), but nothing prepared my for how stunning and engaging it would be right from the first episode.

I was struck my the visuals and the narrative, which both reminded me of my favourite movie, Amelie. (with the added benefit of not being in French as reading subtitles can be exhausting).

Vampires with Purpose

Hi, this is my first blog because I finally have something to say. So here it is.

I watched the new series 'Blood Ties' and last night the premiere of 'Moonlight'. Both featuring vampires that run or consult for a detective agency. I think it is great that these vampires have purpose but haven't we seen this before in 'Angel'. Can't there be other ways in which "good" vampires can use their unique abilities to contribute to society? Obviously not as firefighters, though.

This is my favourite of the four movies. The first time I saw it after Kai’s death, I thought it started out a little slowly with the introduction of the characters, but once they all start coming together you realize that every moment counts. Moments like Stan’s demerit points for sleeping in, Zev calling the guard handsome even after he insults her and banging on the hatch lock after it closes on Thodin. I like that Zev immediately takes a dominant role with Stanley by commanding him to control the Lexx and then biting him when he tries to kiss her. My most favourite moment, though, is Stan’s face as they travel through the fractal core.

This episode is not my favourite episodes. In fact it does not come close. It gave me the creeps. Using body parts to make a drink called pattern to feed to a snake like parasite that lives in your neck? Gross! And then making a game of it see who loses their leg on a giant roulette wheel of death while lookers on play music and dance. And what happens if you don't feed the snake? It eats your eyeballs! Anything good in this episode was overshadowed by this and an unoriginal plot. Good things about this episode? At least Kai didn't die for good!
