Graveling-Ray was still hanging around. It's still has not been made clear how he was created or how George is able to reap him, and now we probably never will find out. But the FX sequence of the Ray-Graveling is great.
The best comedy moment of the episode is the flashbacks of Delores interviewing Happy Time employee candidates, the idea of Crystal being in the military is hilarious. There's also a wonderful gag when Daisy tells George that she is always talking to herself. "Do I?" George wonders in the voiceover.
We find out a lot of tiny details in this episode which are really enjoyable. We learn that Penny used to be part of Rube's post-it gang and that she died on the Titanic. Also Rosie indicating that she seems to know that her father is a reaper, and the flashback to his past which shows him concealing a gun, are both very intriguing.
Though, I'm not too sure about Mandy Patinkin's singing voice, which is a tiny bit of a problem since the song he sings is supposed to back the long scene with his daughter. But the last scene with his daughter is still very sad.

What an ending! Shocking, unexpexted and leaves you with a lot of questions.
There is more to this episode than the ending though. The plotline with the senile woman is funny, without making fun of or patronising. George has to reap an old woman in a hospital. The problem is her soul doesn't realise she is dead. The black and white silent montage of the reapers trying to convince the old lady she is dead is great. We also get to meet another reaper (played by Yeardely Smith from The Simpsons), who knows Rube of old. I like seing the show expand it's own mythology.
Daisy and Mason goes to a reap at a boxing gym, Ray comes along and he and Mason ends up in the ring slugging it out. And finally Daisy sees Ray for the a**hole he is and dumps him. Later when Mason and Daisy returns home Ray is there waiting for them, he attacks Daisy and Mason hits him over the head with a tray.
It's an ending that leaves you with a lot of intriguing questions. Is this how Graveling are created? What does the lack of post-it mean? And why does Daisy say she has seen it happend before?

This would be a forgettable episode if not for two things, both disturbing and uncomfortable viewings in very different ways.
Firstly the scenes with Daisy and Ray will have you squirming, the guy is such a creap and the way he manipulates Daisy is very disturbing to watch.
The other is a "comedy" scene in a morgue where Mason tries to identify his "uncle" who he thinks may have money stashed away somewhere. And it's just awful. Callum Blue couldn't be overacting much more.
Reggie's constant moaning is also getting old. Now she's decided to try out being a goth, which pretty much means she is as miserable as ever but with black eyeliner. Maby they could have done something with it, but it's pretty much wasted here.
Rube has a pointless reap with no connection to the theme or anything else in the episode, and it's not even amusing in itself. This doesn't help matters. Very little about the episode works. It's just a bunch of diverse ideas and scenes, some that work, some that don't, mixed together.

Dead Like Me Death Defying Avg Score: 9.21 Total Ratings: 127 Total Reviews: 3 Users who disagree: 1 |
After a run of great episodes, "Death Defying" is a bland affair, which takes too long getting to rather obvious conclusions by not very interesting ways.
George is in a bad mood after breaking up with Trip and claims a gold medal in overreaction for the sake of 'drama', smashing up a bridal shop.
Rube searches for the woman he sent a package to a long time ago but the scenes in the record office go on to long. Daisy meets a TV producer at a bar, making Mason jealous. The flirting takes up far too much screen time than it should.
In a complete contrast to what we're used to, all the best scenes are with the Lass family. Clancy's deduction that Joy is going on a date followed by his childish attempts to ruin her plans are played to perfection. And at last there seems to be a genuine affection between Reggie and Joy.

Dead Like Me Be Still My Heart Avg Score: 9.25 Total Ratings: 122 Total Reviews: 3 |
The show is really back on form, this is another slick, witty and constantly entertaining episode. Even the return of Clancy doesn't drag it down.
George brings Mason and goes to Trips father's wake to meet Trip again. The do and hit it off, they later end up at George's apartment where they have sex. The next morning they break up. The relationship between George and Tom is engagingly handled, though it would have been nice to see him stick around and watch George trying to keep her double life a secret. There are also some great scenes with Mason at the wake; Tom getting rid of Mason by telling him there's an open bar and Mason asking a string quartet to play "Freebird".
The murder plot, meanwhile, is a welcome example of the shows flexible format. Daisy reaps the soul of a woman who is strangled but freaks and can't face staying to lead the soul to the afterlife. Roxie has to finish the job.
But this is an episode, like the best from season one, where it's the individual lines and moments that shine, like Daisy shushing a Graveling. Underneath all the silliness, though, there's a real feeling of the reapers growing and developing as caracters, and the odd touch of melancholy stops the show from becoming just weird.
