A Non-Spoiler Review Of The Dark Knight

Hi.

So, yesterday, I gave up the chance to go to the football to go see The Dark Knight. Now, I was expecting the film to be a let-down because I've been debating whether critics were applauding it because Heath Ledger died. But I was wrong. Jack Nicholson had been my favourite Joker ever, but with the Joker has always been some camp. In Batman (with Nicholson as The Joker), The Joker was more camp then creepy. In The Dark Knight, Ledger did such a good job as The Joker, I found it too be more creepy than camp (which, I found absolutely fantastic). I found some plot twists to be quite surprising and some were left very open. I loved the film but the downsides of making a film that great do result in a few odd plotholes and I definitely did not like the fact it ran for 2 hours, 30 mins. It was too long and the plot was slightly inconsistent with the time, going too slow, then too fast. Now saying the parts I did really enjoy, The Joker (and the "surprising" other villian) were perfect villians. I don't know what Nolan was smoking when he put the Scarecrow as the villian in the first film. I mean, Cillian Murphy is great but the Scarecrow? Please, I would've preferred The Riddler or Poison Ivy, they would've made it more interesting. The actors/actresses were great. Heath Ledger was extraordinary, so was Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart and Michael Caine. As for Maggie Gyllenhaal, I'm glad they got someone that looked and acted so similar to Katie Holmes that you could barely notice the difference. Apart from Ledger, the best actor in the film would have to be Morgan Freeman, despite him (probably) having the least screen time out of all the main cast. I won't givemy favourite/least favourtie parts as it probably would spoil this great film.

I would give the movie around about a 9.5/10. Which, is hard because I could easily rate it as a 10. It was so great, with just a few little things that held it back.

The next movie I aim to see is The X Files: I Want To Believe. It comes out on Thursday.

I also bought Gilmore Girls (season 5) on DVD with some birthday money. My teacher and I have a deal that if I watch Gilmore Girls, she'll watch Buffy. I watched a few episodes, liked it so much and then decided to buy one of the DVD's.

Any Excuse For A Blog

Just wanted to let you know I'm alive. Not completely, but alive enough. I'm not on here much anymore though, I visit the Buffy forums, Australian forum and some blogs. Then I log off. Speaking of the Buffy forum, a shout out to the LPW folk, especially Isa who won. LPW is awesome. It's pretty fun and you learn a lot about the other people.

I've just got into a few shows as I decided to buy a few first season of shows with my birthday money. They include Firefly, One Tree Hill, Veronica Mars, Dexter and Weeds. Firefly is awesome, has that Whedon-magic. If it ran for longer, it would easily be better than Buffy and Angel. OTH is good, really enjoyable, but I still prefer The OC. Veronica Mars is brilliant, it is smart and funny and has the hottest girl on TV at the moment - Kristen Bell. Also has Amanda Seyfried, she's so cool. I have three episodes to go of Dexter, but I'm liking it. It took a few eps to get me into it, but when you are into it, it is sheer genius. Weeds is possibly the funniest show I've ever seen. I love it and am wanting to buy the second season soon.

As far as TV goes, Gossip Girl ends next week. Michelle Trachtenberg is fantastic as Georgina Sparks, but she is such a b!tch. I have been watching Jeopardy a lot lately. I don't get many answers (you hav to be apart of freakin Mensa to be able to answer those) but I get a fair few. I got two Shakespeare questions the other day, I was impressed with myself !

I better go,
-Alex-

P.S. I am currently participating in Joey's Movie Meltdown Trivia game. It's so frakking hard, but I am happy coz Joey has that uncunny ability to make games and activities really exciting for users.

And thank you everyone for your birthday wishes. Thanks!

Family Death

My grandfather died. On Sunday night. No pain. Not much we could do. But now he's at peace. So, if I'm not around, expect it's because of that.

Red Eyes Are A Pain In The......

Hi.

I went interstate yesterday for family stuff. We (my sister, her boyfriend and I) caught a plane at 6:30am in the morning and returned at 11:30pm the same day. This wasn't planned. It was actually organized 10:00pm the previous day. But I'm back now. It felt weird to just 'go' interstate for just one day without planning it

Oh, and if anyone has Facebook, PM me or search for my name (you know my first name and, with the exception of the 'a' and 'p', my last name is in my username). If you don't haveone, I advise you to get one. It's fun and you don't have to check it every second of every day.

Hope to see you on there,

-Alex-

For the third (or the second one) episode, I am surprised as to how original the plot of this episode is. Cheerleaders catching fire - the perfect way to break off from the intro. Joss couldn't have made a better way to continue smoothly from the two episodes of 'housekeeping'. In my eyes, this was the first 'fun' episode of the season (and the series). It didn't have much to do with the seasons plot and it showed us a lighter side to some of the characters. Everyone in this episode was hilarious and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this. Although, I didn't like this as much as the first two episodes, this stands out as a great episode.

The second episode of the series sheds more light on characters, the "evil" world and what being a slayer means. For only the second episode, it gives outstanding character development. We learn more about nearly every character - most notably Buffy, Xander, Cordelia and Angel. Like the previous episode, this combined comedy, drama, horror and a complex plot that kept twisting and turning. Although I have to admit that I did in fact find many things in this eppy predictable, the constant plot twists were enjoyable. This episode is good, and from watching this two-part pilot, I'm not surprised this show was a hit from the start.

This episode is a prime example of fantastic TV. It's gripping, intriguing, horrific (in a good way), comedic and above all, it's a classic in itself. It introduces Buffy, Xander, Willow, Giles, Angel, Cordelia and Darla - characters that every viewers needs to know. And it also sets up the backstory of the whole series - a sophomore (Buffy) who is born as the Chosen One, and with the help of her friends (Willow and Xander) and her Watcher (Giles), she slays demons/vampires/other faces of evil whilst trying to maintain a good balance in life. This episode hooked me from the moment I watched it and it made me somewhat obligated to watch the next episode.

Was there anything bad in this episode? Indecisive Meredith forced to choose whether she belongs in life any longer. Denny, Dylan, Bonnie and Liz Fallon - all important people and patients in her life - help Meredith realize just how much she values her life. Cristina has a mental breakdown, but Burke helps her discover that saying goodbye to her friend will help her stability more. Her scene at the supermarket was fantastic. Derek kinda frustrated me when he yelled at Ellis like that, even if he was acting out of grief. And, Izzie really annoyed me. She has no reason to be against Callie. I admit Callie was out of line when she made the 'dropping like flies' comment, but still, Izzie doesn't have any reason to not be supportive of George. Seeing old faces was great and the scene with Ellis in the afterlife at the end was great (emotional, yes, but great)! Great episode! Better then the two before it!

Daria

Daria is my second favourite cartoon ever. If there was a DVD (which I wish there was) I'd be the first to get it. The whole dynamic of the show is a classic. An alienated, sarcastic school girl trying to balance a dysfunctional family and an even weirder school filled with teachers with bulging eye, the Fashion Club and her best friend who expresses her anger through her bizzarely abstract art. I think the reason many people love the show is the fact that there is one character you can easily relate to. For me, it's Daria. But that's just me. In my opinion, Daria is unforgettable and, unlike cheezy teen sitcoms, this is truly a show that will get you through high school.
