Volleyball Madness!

Hey everyone!
So I'm blogging now because in the coming days I won't be on too much. Tomorrow begins my volleyball camp at the local university and it will certainly keep me busy! This is the schedule for it:
Sunday, July 20: 5:30PM- 9:00 PM
Monday, July 21-23: 8:30 AM- 8:30 PM
Thursday July 24: 9:00 AM- 12:00 PM
Based on that I should be on sparingly so I apologize in advance for the lack of comments! I will try to catch up when I have a moment or am not too tired! This camp should be fun because I'm going with one of my best friends and she's staying with me for the week too. My sister is going on a cruise with my cousin to Bermuda tomorrow so my friend will stay in her bed.

Yesterday I job shadowed a neo-natal nurse at the neo-natal intensive care unit at the hospital that I volunteer at. It was okay, not incredibly interesting. Last year I got to hold a newborn but this year all I did was watch a nurse write stuff in charts and occasionally tend to a crying baby. There's no denying though the babies were so cute. Three total- one twin who's sister went home the day before and she had to be fed through a feeding tube in her nose, a baby boy who had some irregular breathing patterns, and a baby girl who had trouble regulating her blood sugar. The sad thing about that last baby was the mom was on a drug that people take if they've previously had drug abuse problems and in about 24 hours it would register with the baby that they were no longer getting that supply of drug from their mother so they will begin crying and get figity Very sad and just proves what drugs do to people. One baby was transfering from a hospital about an hour away but I only got to see him for like 10 minutes then my shift was over. Overall it was a nice experience, but I can't say for sure if I'm going to choose that career path. Next week on Friday I'm job shadowing and ER doctor which I hope is fun!

Car Accidents + (Dr.) Charlie Brown

Hey everyone! Well not much is new, but I havn't blogged since the 4th of July so thought I should catch you all up.

On Thursday night around 5:30 my brother was in a car accident, but he is ok. He was extremely lucky though because the car was totaled and all he got way a minor abrasion from the airbag deployment and a stiff neck. In a nutshell what happened was he was turning left out of a parking lot across two lanes of traffic. A lady coming in the right hand land stopped, and waved him on to go infront of her to merge into the left lane going the opposite way. When the lady stopped, he inched out but an impatient driver behind the lady skirted around the car (into the left lane!) to attempt to pass her (I know, what the hell was she thinking?!) and in doing so smashed the whole front hood from the drivers side to rougly half its size. My brother didn't need to go to the hospital or anything, he just described it as if you got hit in the head with a basketball. Now, this person who hit him had to be travelling pretty fast judging by the airbag deployment and damage to the car. Also the speed limit was 25 but, come on, like she was actually going that! He's pretty bummed because we had that car paid off, it was a Toyota Camery that was in great condition with limited miles on it and it looked like he would keep it for at least 6-10 more years. But we just have to be thankful she didn't hit the drivers side door because who knows what could have happened.

Anddd to add insult to injury (perhaps reversed...continue reading) that same brother plus my other brother went out to the bars last night with a few friends to celebrate one of the friends 21st birthday. I live in a pretty small town so just before you jump to conclusions the whole "bar" scene consists of a couple beers and a Red Sox game on the flat screen with a minimal crowd. So it was about 1 AM and they were walking downtown about to go home and they saw some old friends. My two brothers were talking with one of them and then they heard glass shatter. They turned and saw that two of the kids (one from their group, one from the recently seen group of friends) had been horsing around (not serious fighting) and crashed through the front glass of a local camera shop! Panic suddenly deployed as did a mixture of I assume curse words. One of the kids (not in the original group) had cut his wrist on the glass! Thankfully an unknown kid had previously been in Iraq and sprung into action. He took off his shirt and belt to apply pressure to the wound and told him to keep his arm up. 911 was dialed and the police were instantly there. My brother's friend that was also involved got a pretty big cut on his head and so there was panic from that as well. They stayed at the hospital until 4 AM where their friend got stitches and is now home. The other kid is stable but needed surgury and to see a specialist. His mother was a nervous wreck which is justified I suppose. Once again thankfully my brothers were not involved but you just can't be too careful after a night out.

With this event last night we have dubbed the oldest brother Charlie Brown. First the car accident, then this, and also he's job hunting as he just completed his MBA courses which as I'm sure you all know, is a pain in itself. Also he sprained his ankle pretty bad a couple nights ago playing basketball but due to the typical stubborness I guess it's just going to have to heal on its own without medical intervention. Hopefully his luck will look up soon.

The reason I mentioned Dr. Charlie Brown is because I've recently been watching that new ABC Documentary Hopkins that follows various doctors at the famed Johns-Hopkins Medical Center. I really like it- it actually shows surgeries not as dramatizations so if you're questioning a career in that field and don't know if you can stomach it, check out this show first! I saw a lung transplant last week and a heart transplant this week! It's a good summer show and there's relatively new stuff every week. There is literally a doctor named Charlie Brown which I find quite funny!

In addition to that, my summer show line-up has me hooked on The Secret Life of the American Teenager on ABC Family. Pehaps the most degrading portrayal of teenagers I've ever seen next to those MTV/VH1 dating shows, it's one of those shows that once you start watching you just want to see what happens next! I'm pretty sure no teenager's life consists of exclusively sex talk and suggestive clothing at school but hey, if it gets viewers watching, why wouldn't they do it?

For all my Office buddies, did you catch the cast on Celebrity Family Feud on Tuesday? I love it! I was a bit skeptical at first, I thought the Gladiators were going to pull away with it but then the Office came charging back with a fantastic yet cockey finish from Oscar Nunez! I didn't know a lot of those people were as funny as they are outside The Office! Like Brian, he's hilarious! And Oscar, boy was he funny. From his walking away after the obvious sudden death win answer and imitating Wolf's howling he had me laughing out loud!

Getting Buff & TV Survey!

My basketball AAU season has officially ended- wrapped up with our team party on Saturday. It was at my coach's friends lake house and I have to say it was pretty cold out. All week it had been humid but Saturday it was just cloudy and occasionally raining. We did go in the water though which wasn't that bad once you were in but still it was pretty chilly. They had this dock about 30 ft. offshore which you could climb up and sit on. Once we were chillin' on the dock some genius suggested swimming out to the f'n middle of the lake! Of course everyone joined in and I followed but once we got about 3/4 of the way they were not stopping and they just kept going. I'm not extremely comfortable with my swimming abilities- I mean I'm alright but I wouldn't sign up for a triathalon anytime soon- so I started swimming back to the dock and thank god I did because by the time I reached it I was exausted! I do not understand how they could tread water for like 15 minutes. After swimming and snacking we went inside the lake house and played this movie game that's a combination of charades, password & pyramid. It was fun!

Because basketball has ended, I've been trying to go to the gym with my brothers more. I've just been doing a combination of cardio, biceps, triceps, abs, and legs. Lots of squats to build up my thigh strength. On Tuesday our summer weight lifting program begins and we have "weight testing" where a personal trainer is coming to give each of us a program catered to our strengths/weaknesses. That should be good because then I can bring my program to the gym and do those weights.

Wednesday nights I have open gym for volleyball which is always fun. It's a great work out but I don't even realize how much I'm tired because it is so much fun! Our team is now an official varsity team and will play the neighboring schools. I hope I make varsity because there is a JV team but I suppose only time will tell. I'm working really hard and am determined to have my serve down by tryouts!

Here's a TV quiz thingy-

***SPOILER***

Calling All Office Fans!

Hey everyone (especially you Dunder-heads!),
Since we can no longer play games on The Office forum, I decided to start one up over on the TV Fun & Games forum. It is called 'The Office' Amazing Race Game! and it's good to lighten the tension (TWSS ). Hope to see you all over there- and for those of you who don't watch, you can still play the game but you should start watching ASAP!

I didn't end up seeing Get Smart the other night. I don't know...plans just got to crazy I guess. But, I was supposed to go tonight with my friends and so my brothers and I went to the gym early and planned to leave early so I could be home in time to get ready and guess what? "Oh my mom said we can't go because she doesn't want us to go". Sweet. I love my life.

Today's my mom's birthday anyway. Happy big 5-0 Mom!

Also asking for your prayers, my grandfather had a mini-stroke the other night at around 4 AM. He is doing well now and things are looking good but he is 89 years old so any thoughts would help. He is an extremely brilliant man. Graduated saluditorian from high school and from Yale. At Yale he majored in mathematics and aided in the designing of the first Sikorsky Helicopter. He's also such a nice man, wouldn't hurt a fly. When he was at the hospital after the stroke the doctors were asking him questions and he answered in Czech and Latin. LOL Maybe I should enlist him for help in my Latin endevors!

Kathy Griffin is officially the funniest person I know. She is preparing for her journey to Home Shopping Newtwork by talking with Tiffany's grandmother who is an avid watcher. Tiffany's grandma, Millie, tells Kathy she should put the makeup on right on air which make Kathy say possibly one of the funniest lines ever: "I am not doing that at this stage of the game. What's next? Oh, maybe if you show a close up of your cellulite people will wanna buy anti-vomit potion." HILARIOUS! When she travels to Roosevelt Middle School to talk to her nephew J.P.'s class, she tells the girls it will help if they get boob jobs and guys if they're gay Then when a kid asks how many Emmy's she's won, she says she was beat by the "bastards of Extreme Makeover Home Edition" and that "Ty Pennington can suck it." LOL. This is my favorite episode of all the seasons by far!

I thought this episode would be the one where we would finally get to see that million dollar question! I have to admit though, this show is addicting and it is fun to watch and see how well I can answer the questions. Avis had a different stragety and she knocked off the big ones first. I thought at first, "what is she doing?!" but as the game went on I realized that was probably a smarter bet. I really thought she was going to go all the way! She had only a first grade geography question left and she still had her copy! Then the question was, "Which continent is also a country?" I knew it was Australia, and I can't believe she got that far and on the 1st grade question she walked. The worst was though when she said "Well North America's a continent and a country." Come on! Tell me, what is the capital of North America then if it's a country? And when Jeff told her if she had to guess what would her answer have been and she said she would have said all of them. Wow. Nice.

I thought this episode encluded many twists that I did not see coming. First of all, Callie and George are staying in a hotel and ordering room service and living the good life. George soon learns that his $200 contribution is used simply to tip the maitinence staff. Callie reveals to him that she is an heiress! That was a suprise! Also, as the race to become Chief continues, the new candidate reveals he used to date Christina. Burke is threatend by this I thought. When Callie and George start fighting, Callie says that Izzy has feelings for George. George goes over to Izzy's place and they vent over alchol- too much alchohol. The are laughing and talking and they end up sleeping together!

This was the finale of season 7 of the amazing race. I got into this show in about season 4 or 5 but had been a long time Survivor fan. I watched Survivor All-Stars and I believe Rob truly outwit, outplayed, and outlasted them all and that's why he got second place, and the girl. I had been pulling for Rob and Amber from day one. Based on most of the forums i have read, I relize the public is not a huge fan of them. I understand Rob is manipulative and that he plays "dirty" if you will but I believe his is playing the game! He brings a new bag of tricks with him on each leg of the race and he makes it exciting!!

Now I understand if you are not a fan of Rob and Amber, but when they were getting on the last flight to the U.S. and they were the only ones on that flight, there is no doubt they would have won. But.... the airplane company decided to bring the plane back once it already had pulled out of the gate which would NEVER happen in today!! I believe that was fixed by CBS and I hate to say it but I think it was.

Personally, I think this shows just how genious the writers really are. This was the first episode of the office I had ever seen and it instantly hooked me. It starts out with Michael organizing a "friendly" game against the warehouse. As Michael goes on in anticipation the day of the big game, his nerves show through indirectly, for example he schedules the game to be when the warehouse workers need to load the truck. Being a basketball player myself, this just creates so many opportunities to quote the show while playing. Michael starts by trying to organizing the best team possible, by living up to steryotypes. I love when Oscar says like "I can help out if you need me." and Michael responds with "i will use your talents come baseball season, my friend. or if we box." ((halarious!))

And the whole Stanley thing is just genious- have him steryotypically be "good" then having him be awful. On an unrelated note- when Kevin is just shooting around after the game and Jim and Ryan are rebounding for him, I heard that he just started shooting around on set and they decided to film it. And when Roy elbows Jim in the nose I heard also that that actually happened and the camera crew just told him to go with it.
