What the doctors don't tell you

Almost two years ago, my boyfriend's younger brother passed away at the age of 20. The cause was SUDEP, which stands for Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy. Up until that point, none of us had ever known that Clayton's epilepsy could kill him because doctors don't like to mention it. If we had known, precautions could have been taken. I don't know why doctors don't tell their patients, although I read somewhere that they don't like to scare them. Personally, I wish Clayton's doctor would have scared him. Regardless, if you or anyone you know has epilepsy, please look up SUDEP and find out what you need to do to make sure this doesn't happen to you or your loved ones.

This is so cool!

Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know about this great site I found. It's like MySpace or Facebook, but they actually pay you to be a member. You get paid for different things like how many times people view your profile and stuff like that. If you get into MySpace at all, please join using the link below. (If you use the link, I get credited for referring you, so if it doesn't work, please copy and paste.) It's a pretty cool site, even if you weren't getting paid. They don't have all the features of MySpace yet, but they are getting there. Have fun!

I'm Finally an Editor!

After many, many submissions, I have finally managed to become an editor. I'm very excited, even though the main reason I was able to become one was because the show does not have much of a following. Regardless, I hope everyone will check out Mysteries of the Bible. It is a fantastic show - even if you're not religious - and you can find it on Netflix or Amazon if you're interested.

Here Comes the Big Game!

I am a huge football fan, and I am really looking forward to the Super Bowl this weekend, even though my team (the Steelers) are not playing. I'll be cheering for the Giants because I tend to support the underdogs and because I don't like cheaters. (Sorry, Patriots fans.) Just wanted to see who everyone is supporting. Let me know, and I hope everyone enjoys the game!

Banned From Church?

Last week there was an article in the Wall Street Journal about churches across the United States that are taking a stricter approach to their congregations. In these churches, people are being publicly criticized for their sins and sometimes even shunned by the community. A woman in her seventies was banned for questioning the authority of her minister, and when she tried to return, the minister called the police to arrest her for trespassing.

I understand that churches want to promote their belief system and to create a place that is holy. But something that these churches' leaders seem to have forgotten is that all people are sinners. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," the Bible says. We are all sinners and therefore unworthy of passing judgement on our peers. That job is reserved for God. I believe that it is the responsibility of Christians to stand up for what is right and to try always to do the right thing, but shunning those that they perceive to be extra-sinful is just wrong. When Jesus walked the Earth, He was criticized by the Pharisees for hanging out with prostitutes, robbers, and other extra-bad people. But the reason He did so was because He felt they were the ones who needed Him most. A church is supposed to try to bring more people to God, but by shunning those who need God the most, they only drive more and more people away. That is not what we have been called to do.

This is my favorite episode ever! There are so many hysterical moments. The love letter from Dennis is hilarious, and even better is seeing him on Dateline. Plus, we get to see Liz on the dating scene, and that is just priceless. I like this show most of the time, although I get annoyed with all the sex-related jokes,(I mean, come on, they require no creativity at all), but this episode had me laughing out loud over and over again. In fact, it is the only reason I started watching this show. It happened to be the first episode I saw, so I gave it a chance, and now I love it! If you only watch one episode of this show, this should be the one.

I love this episode because it gives the viewer a softer look at both Dr. Kelso and Dr. Cox. Although I enjoy the usual uncaring attitudes of both of these characters, it is nice to occasionally get a look at the softie that lies buried deep in each of them. Kelso's long-lost singing career reveals something about why he is so bitter and unkind, and Dr. Cox shows a little-seen vulnerability that makes him all the more lovable. These moments are made powerful by the way these characters are portrayed in the majority of other episodes, and they demonstrate how skilled the writers of this show are at developing all the dimensions of each character.

Although this episode is a bit over the top at times, I must admit it is one of my favorites. The personification of emotions is creatively done, and some of the lines are very witty. I actually laughed out loud a couple of times, which is not something I usually do when watching a television show. The special effects leave something to be desired, but that is a small matter when compared to the overall impression the episode leaves on the viewer. All things considered, it is a quality episode that is definitely worth the time it takes to watch.

Mysteries Of The Bible

Mysteries of the Bible was a truly great series. It took a historical approach to the Bible and attempted to use archaeological findings and other resources to validate or invalidate the words of the Bible. A huge part of what mades this show so great was that it could appeal to everyone, regardless of their religious background. The specialists they interviewed looked at independent findings without bias and objectively reported on how consistent these findings are with what is stated in the Bible. Furthermore, the show employed guests from a wide range of studies to help support its claims and shed light on the great mysteries that the Bible contains. This show is a must-see for anyone who even dabbles in history, regardless of his or her religious beliefs.

This is definitely one of the all-time best episodes of CI! The twists and turns come out of nowhere but still manage to be believable. Throughout the entirety of this two-part episode, the plot captures and holds the audience's attention.

Detective Bobby Goren, almost always calm and collected, gives one of his rare explosive performances after the perpetrator sends someone to terrorize his schizophrenic mother. His blowup on the phone when he hears about it is very moving, and you can feel his anger and anxiety as you watch. Later, when Eames is questioned about a letter she wrote years earlier, in which she requested a new partner, she breaks down. Although we rarely see her moved to tears, her emotion and desperation to explain are palpable, and we again feel with her. These are two amazing actors, and they really demonstrate their talent in this episode. Guaranteed to get your heart pumping and your blood boiling.

After mocking my sister for spending so much time on this site, I joined in an effort to appease her. Now I find myself reliving the television of my youth ('cause let's face it, television was better fifteen years ago), and spending my time here when I should be studying. Many thanks to my big sister for the impending destruction of my GPA.

Dead Beat - A Short Film

This is a short film that I made for university. It had to be 60 seconds long (actual footage - not credits - but mine ended up being 66 seconds), and it had to follow the theme Recreate the moment after a crime. Hope you enjoy it! Please comment.
