Deadbeat Dads

I always look forward to the last 3eps of the season, and "Deadbeat Dads" surely did not disappoint. Who would have thought in GW's 3yrs, such a heavily driven minor character ep would actually provide some needed umph to move along the arc of the season.

Payne, before this ep I found Payne ignorant for not forgetting his wife in "The Collector," after discovering she had cheated due to the lack of interest he showed for her. However, tonight I somewhat have a new found respect for him. What did it, was his heartfelt speech of his own selfishness of wanting his wife all to himself with no interruption from babies. I have watched plenty of TV programs, and I have never seen a man admit to his own selfishness in such a profound way.

Kate, deserved closure from the get go, she made a mistake but it was not without a cause. I thought tonight, she left in the only way she could, allowing Payne to move on but never letting him forget their past. Kate Payne, is a character I will deeply miss and Rachel Shelley did a "magnificent job" as Kate would say, in portraying such a complexed character.

Nina and Elliot, what a surprise they were, I was sure Payne would have felt a slap in the face. After, discovering the girl he dumped for his wife had given birth, especially the harsh time he had in forgiving Kate and her affair. However, as I stated earlier, all is forgiven and the plot ended on a note that could come in handy if and only if Jay Mohr decides to depart from GW to pursue a comedy project.

Now, Payne aside, Mel's baby issues was once an for all mended. Having Kate show Mel that life is dispensable and that one can never tell when death and his minions will prevail. Though this was a good progression for Mel and Jim's relationship, it was not the reason I was looking forward to the ep. My personal reason was for the mystery of Tom Gordon. However, it was never answered the tidbits dropped were exciting. Guess we will just have to sit tight, wait patiently, and tune in next week for everything to begin to come together. Hopefully, the significance of those numbers led to something big either to Mel's past or even eventual future.

The Gravesitter

"The Gravesitter," was different then the typical norm episode, and I frankly loved it. Justin Yates, was a character I knew I would love from the get go, always curious and suspicious for the abnormal. Tonight, it all finally was laid into play. Resolving many unanswered questions/plot left hanging, such as the stealing of files on Mel from Payne's laptop [watch "The Underneath"], or the captured security tape catching Mel in the act [watch "Slam"] to tonights somewhat exposing of Mel's gift. The answer ... was guilt and curiosity of what is beyond the barrier of the living and breathing. That explains the why but what about the cause? Guess you, like I did have to watch to find out. One thing I will say, the Justin plot and his curiosity of the beyond is one you will not have seen coming.

Moving along to mythology plot, the Dark Spirits and the Underground strike again. They are indeed "getting stronger" to quote Mel from Season 1. I found it clever how John [since he wrote it] showed the Dark Spirits were getting wary of Mel's "peace is in the light, not here" chatter by unwillingly ripping them from the surface and then, safely in their world, converting them over. Also, the ghosts trying to force themselves from beneath the concrete to the surface was a great way to show progression from the tease they laid in the premiere to what is to come out of it.

It was a nice change of things to see Mel converse with the other 3 characters. I do not think this has happened since "Weight of What Was," especially with each in their own right helping out with the situation of the episode. Also, it was a very positive sign after last weeks episode to see that Delia has relaxed and opened up to Mel's ability. All in good time too.

Overall, the episode was different but in the purest and best way it could and should be. Inching closer and closer we are, all but a few questions are still left unanswered. Luckily, we still have 4eps till we can say "rest in peace" to Season 3.

Normally I would fall out of the funk of a show that has been off air for quite sometime but this episode really was good. It had just the right amount of everything that makes Ghost Whisperer a great show. One heavily topic that hit Ghostie fans was the "new" Ned. I even before the episode said the Casting people knew exactly who they were going to be casting and I was right. Sanders did a fantastic job in selling that Ned actually hit puberty. After all the last time we saw him was in "The Prophet" so in Ghost Whisperer Verse that's a good 5/6 months.

Typically, I don't normally enjoy watching the 11th episode of the season because they usually don't flow with the rest. Thankfully the Writers knew exactly what they wanted to do and that was; tie up loose ends left open and move forward with the overall arch. I was pleasantly surprised to see Justin Yates back after his one and only pretty big stint in the premiere. I had just assumed they had dropped the plot all together due to lack of interest but I was wrong. Without Yates, I could see the episode not as being as good as it was, so it was a great time to have brought him back. Along with involvement from Ned.

Lastly, the ghost of the week. This was one of the most touching ones I have seen in quite sometime. Rather then having the Ghost being the immediate blamer for causing all the trouble, it was shaken up a bit. I especially love the topic handling of finding her yourself in High School and how gender is a issue most teens go through and are scared to out themselves to the public, especially to people at school.

To end with: another ghost point added to the Mel score board.

P.K. Simonds (of Fox's Point Pleasant), is an amazing writer. He is probably the best addition the Ghost Whisperer producers have yet made. "Weight of What Was" had basically everything I enjoy about the show. A dark mystery involving the bigger arch, tie-in to the main characters family lineage, every single supporting cast being involved and a great cliffhanger.

I loved Amy Acker on Angel and having her on Ghost Whisperer was a blessing in disguise, but having her as the great, great, great Grandmother of Melinda's was even better. The casting personal did a fantastic job, Amy defiantly could have actually been a relative (cousin or sister) of Jennifer's. They basically even have the exact same smile, proof rewatch the ending before Tessa crosses over.

Anyways, it was great hearing the voices we have all been hearing since Season 1 with Romano and Laughing Man, that echo-y voices that appeared during Mel's entrance into the church. It is things like these that make watching a series like Ghost Whisperer feel worth the long journey. Does anyone else feel that Tom Gordon may just be in a coma? It could explain why he is seen as a spirit to Mel but still be alive, as he said to Gabriel at the end "I won't have to do this for long."

Ending this, I wonder who that Red-Eyed Ghost in the church was, the one that said "Finally" very Romano like ah? Know, I am for sure sure that Tom is evil and Beth is not but a worries mother as Tom said himself "While I wanted you to revel in your gift, not hide it." Also he leaded Mel to the underworld, why would a caring father do that to her "beloved" daughter?

5/5 Stars, can not wait to see more of this unravel. Great work once again and have a Happy Halloween! this Wednesday.

eta: Jim and Delia really impressed me tonight. Hopefully in future episodes more of these kind of character developments will occur. I liked Jim and Delia, but they have always felt one dimensional, Jim the husband and shoulder. Delia, the new friend of Mel's and skeptical. Tonight, they both proved me wrong and I am proud to admit it. Delia, still cautious but was open in following what she felt was real and Jim took into action rather then just falling into the back as just the shoulder/ears for Mel.

"No Safe Place" is dead on, I actually felt nerved racked while watching. which is unusually cause I never feel that watching Ghost Whisperer. Possibly due to the fact Mel would always be safe for another day, but this episode really twisted it up with a living stalker.

The acting was all across excellent, Jen truly felt Emmy nom worthy. I am still astonished at how such a simple storyline has become one of the series strongest. Adding the fact that it was also a tie-in into the over arch mythology of "Dark Spirits." I wonder who pulled Shane away, Mel's father? Or possibly that red-eyed ghost underground? Guess we will find out next week!

The lack of Payne was rather a breath of fresh air, no offense but he takes a lot of the actual suspense from an episode. Not that he was not a great addition to the series but once in awhile it is nice to have things changed up a bit. I did however like seeing Jim around, in a way his character was put to a means rather then someone for Mel to lean on, which he still was but with a backbone. Delia, also nice to see. Who actually showed more of her defensive side towards aiding Mel, defiant plus on character growth from skeptical Delia in "Delia's First Ghost."

Overall, a much recommendation from myself to any other that would like to get into Ghost Whisperer.
